Hi
I just happened to stumble on this page. I have been trying to research the Sherrell (Sherrill) name and I am wondering if we might be related. My great grandfather, Wm. was born in TN and he is buried in Equality, Ill. Have found that he was married maybe the first time to a Sarah from NC. She is buried in Saline County (if we have the right person). Wm was born about 1831 and sure seems to match your g,g, etc. grandparents. My grandfather was names Frank Harrison Sherrell. His sister, Aunt Mary Castle was married to a John Davis born in 1884 in Indiana. Mary was born in 1888. They both died in Sacramento, CA My curiosity is peaked! I am visiting in NC at the moment. Maybe you can help me out.

Enjoyed your site. If you wish to fill in Lillian Heckle's decendency, I can help you.

I think I have made a connection with my family thanks to you. My Grandfather, William Alfred Sherrill born May 1, 1867 in Cushman, Arkansas, Independence County. His parents were Andrew Jackson Sherrill "Andy" born in Batesville, and his wife was Frances Elizabeth Tosh, "Fannie" unknown birth place. I am going to keep searching through your information and see if I can come up with something. I have been at a stand still for some time. My Dad Blaine C. Sherrill is 80, and doesn't remember a lot, just that his family traveled to CA in horse and wagon, he was very small at he time. There was a news paper article written about them, I have the picture in the 20's I believe, but I am not able to find the article that named everyone. It was lost in my brother's move. He had a sister Laura who died when they were in Vernal, Utah of the measels and they burried her there in some small cemetary. I have taken my dad back there and we are not able to locate it. My dad was 6 at the time I think. My dad's mom was Cecile June Voight. She lived in CA until her death in 1984. I am excited about your site.
Thanks again,
Vicki Sherrill-Smith

Sarah & Reuben'Simpson's daughter, Agnes Simpson married George McWhorter in Lincoln Co. KY abt. 1800.
I am looking for the death dates and locations for the two couples. I know that Sarah & Reuben Simpson were in Wayne Co. Ky abt. 1810. Then George McWherter was in TN in 1820 but I believe Agnes Simpson -McWherter was no longer alive. Do you have any information on the above family.
Thanks, Sherry L. Witt

My grandmother was Ethel Sherrill; she is buried in Rainey Cemetery around Toone, Hardeman County, TN, beside her husband. My babybook (1952) has Abner Sherrill and Nettie Layton Sherrill as my grandparents. I remember my grandmother saying she was born in Arkansas.
I found Abner W. Sherrill and Nettie Layton in the marriage records of Jackson County, Arkansas, in 1895, as residents of Tuckerman, Arkansas. My sister found the gravesite of our great grandmother (we think) in Holloway Cemetery in Craighead County, Arkansas, as "N.J. (Mrs. A.W.) Sherrill." I found where he married three more times as A.W. Sherrill, to a Mattie Goodrich in 1905; Lela Farmer in 1909; both in Jackson County, AR. Then the records show "H.W. Sherrill" to Carrie Fields in Craighead County, AR. Carrie was his last wife and she is buried in West Union cemetery in Shelby County, TN. We were told he was buried there also, but we could not physically locate his gravesite. We are still waiting on someone from the church to confirm that information.
That is all we have been able to locate at this time. My grandmother was his first child, we think, and she has one sister, Nettie, born just days before Nettie Layton Sherrill's death. We grew up knowing Aunt Nettie and her family. I remember my grandmother telling me she had a brother, and I have since heard there were some boys, but still trying to locate.
We think, but we are not sure that he might be actually Washington Abner Sherrill from Tennessee, and changed it to Abner W. because it was easier. We know people called him "Abe." He would have been born abt. 1874.
Thank you for your time....

Artie Sherrill was my great great grandmother, she was married to Ernest Drake and had 2 children:Charlie Oliver Drake and Juel Dee Drake. I have pictures of her grave marker in Olustee Okla. She died when my granddad (Charlie) was only 10 years old and I never knew her. I remember seeing a picture of her and 2 sisters and they were very pretty ladies. If you are interested and would like to search the web for Juel D. Drake, you will find some pictures of he and his wife, Billie. He was president of the AFLCIO Iron Worker Union for a number of years. I also have picture of Riller's marker stating she died in 1907. I have no remembrance of any of the Sherrill Family, but am very interested knowing their history.

He was born in North Carolina, the son of Charles and Haiti Sherrill. There were 14 children in the family. My grandfather moved to Ohio about 70 years ago. My great-grandfather was a Cherokee indian as I have been told. My great-grandmother "Haiti" is buried in East Palestine, OH. I don't know to much about my family. Dear Tommy, I enjoyed your site so very much and was delighted to find that you are a Uriah/Joseph descendant! I'm hoping and praying that someone has pictures or CW letters of my gg-grandfather Moses Loftin Sherrill (Joseph's son). G'pa Loftin served 3 years with the 69th NC Reg't, Co. F. The 69th was in Franklin(Macon Co), NC when my ggG'pa James Thomas Henry and his brothers (1st NC Cav., 9th Reg't,Co. K)returned home from Appomattox and announced that Gen. Lee had surrendered. G'pa Loftin Sherrill's Reg't locked up G'pa Tom Henry's Reg't as deserters, cause they didn't believe that Lee had surrendered!! They released them three days later when the news finally reached them confirming what the troopers from the 1st had said... Lord, how I'd LOVE to know what G'pa Tom thought when his son John Parker Henry married Loftin's daughter Catherine Jane Sherrill (my g-grandparents:-)))...
I haven't had a chance to make it over to Bryson City where I HOPE to meet some near Sherrill cousins, but if you know of anyone who may have pictures or letters from Loftin, please let me know.
Thanks again for the wonderful site! MaryElla

GREAT genealogy! I am from Nancy Jane Sherrill & Franklin Monroe Huddleston lineage. I just put on the Sherrill website, at myfamily.com my information again, as was deleted somehow. It should show up on ancestry.com in about 10 days from today (A popup window told me). Nancy's parents: Jacob Starnes Sherrell & Sarah Jane Adcock, & grandparents: John B Sherrell & Mary 'Polly' Starnes & ggrandparents: George Davidson Sherrill & Elizabeth Hunt-Morgan (but have also seen as yesterday that George had another spouse Mary Ann Bennett who died 1789, married in 1785 -possibly the mother of my lineage instead as John B was born about 1786. Plus, one other sibling Elizabeth Manerva Sherrill b abt 1782 in Franklin Co GA, also the child of this new spouse just found). Don't have proof as yet. This should be very interesting to find out more info on these new clues.. Wm Huddleston

I stopped to sign your guest book because I live in a small unincoporated area of NC named Sherrill's Ford. If you don't already know about this, it is as follows.
Before the Catawba River in NC was dammed up to make Lake Norman, there was a place used by settlers to "ford" the river. As there was a family in the area named Sherrill, this ford was recognized by their name. When the river was flooded this section kept the name even though the ford was under water.
I have a family book (not my family) that was published in 1985 by the Woods and Sherrill family. It tells that the Sherrills came from the Susquehanna Valley of PA. It lists Adam Sherrill, Rudil Sherrill, Samuel Sherrill and William Sherrill as taxpayers in the Conestoga Township in Susquehanna Valley, PA. Some of these names can be traced in an almost direct line to the Sherrills of this section of NC.
This area along the Catawba River is Catawba County and it gets it's name from the Catawba Indians (a line of the Cherokee Nation) who lived and farmed along the river's shores. They were a very friendly group and taught the settlers many of their ways of farming.
I don't know if this is of interest to you but I think it draws a wonderful picture of who the Sherrill family were.
Good luck on your family search and your web page!
Nancy

I am a descendant of Capt. John Dobson and his wife Catherine Killian. Capt. Dobson was killed in the battle of Ramsour's Mill in 1720. I Have been looking for any information I could find on Catherine Killian. There is a huge clan of Killians from the area of North Carolina that the Dobsons came from. I cannot however tie in Catherine to any of them. I would like to hear from you to compare notes. My website addr is: http://users.rcn.com/gisela1
There is a page devoted to Catherine Ann Dobson, grandaughter of the above and she is my great grandmother

So glad to find your page. I have some data to add to Ferdinand Campbell Dow .. Thanks for his birthdate. I knew the place well, such memories in childhood times .. He married (2) my Aunt Amy WALKER, and I do not have that date (1930's.
Since "finding" one of his sons, Campbell Jr, (after 50 years) I have been trying with the help of the Texas vital records to compile data re his Dad's descendants.
I use PAF, and could probably send you a GEDCOM. I say probably in good faith as I am an amateur. hoping to hear from you. Louise
