This has been a fun project. I am most grateful for my cousin, Mike Wagner for taking up where I left off. It was a tedious project since there weren't any ancestry programs to look into. But I loved going to Canada to look up any Wagner I could find.

Comments:
I married into the Waggoner Family and am helping my husband trace his family. We have documented proof of his great great grandfather being Joseph Waggoner who lived in Ashland Co, Ohio. We have notes from other family members that his father's name was Solomon but I have not been able to find proof of this. We are looking for Joseph's father.
Joseph was born 1823 in PA, married Rachel Murray in Ashland Co, Ohio. He died there in 1857.

Comments:
Ben Franklin Waggoner sold bibles as a young man, he sold bibles through out the south. Upon returning home after one of his trips, he met a young lady named, Mary Elizabeth Gilbert (Mamie), she worked around the house for his mother. It was love at first sight, and they were married, 21 Dec. 1906. Ben F. joined his father in farming in Goodlettsville, Tenn. His father was James "Jim" Lewis Waggoner owned quite a bit of land in Davidson Co. Tenn. Jim's father was John Henry Waggoner of Burke Hollow, Tenn. John's father was John Waggoner II of Williamson Co., Tenn. John II father was John I of North Carolina, he died in Humphreys, Tenn. From what I has been able to gather, John I father was John Jacob Waggoner of Penn. I am not sure if this is correct.

Do you know if "old" Jacob Wagner had a brother? Both may been in the Prussian cavalry and emigrated to Pennsylvania. Jacob's brother may have migrated to the Allanport area of Ontario, Canada in the 18th century. Some time after this the brother moved to the Collingwood area of Ontario....many Wagners still reside in that area. The brother may be my ancestor.

Comments:
Rinta Inez Appleman was one of my great grandmothers, I am seeking information on her family as well as that of her husband John (Moore/More) Miller. I have them both listed in Illinois on the 1900 census.

Both Rinta and John died in British Columbia, coming to the province in about 1927 from Idaho. Rinta was an amputee, losing a leg to a train while saving one of her sons from the rails. It may explain what the Applemans were doing in Idaho in 1920? Son Theorus Dorrell ( Unka Dorrell ) was born in Idaho in 1923.

One of the cousins is in possession of Rinta's one diary, as well as her family bible. Two of her boys, Theorus Dorrell, and Floyd Lee, still have family in BC today, myself included.

Stoked to learn more about a family that has proven very difficult to track down!

I am doing a lot of my research on Ancesty.com where I have added information my mother had found before she died. All of the family history has been passed to me, which includes not only my paternal side (Wagner) and my maternal side (Durrette). The earliest known Wagner is John WAGGONER (Wagner) b Abt. 1794 in North Carolina. His son Allison Pinkney Wagner is my 2nd great grandfather, b.1827 in Tennessee d.1898 in Hickory, Burke, N. Carolina. Allison married Mary Matilda Berry in 1853. We may have a connection, it will bw interesting to find out.

Developed family tree in 1995-1998 @ Clayton library in Houston. Found your website this month! "Old Jacob" was my GGGGG grandfather. My line came to Texas from Lincoln County, Tenn about 1855 and settled near Henderson, Texas in Rusk County. I know little of "Old Jacob's " ancestry from Germany, but had read "family histories" from Rowan County that he decended from William M.(Matthias??) Wagner from the Alsace area of Germany/France and came to America with 4 brothers: Daniel, Matthias, Edward, and Andrew. Your research looks well documented, so are John and wife Margaret "Mary" (Lopp) Rheinland, Prussia truely his parents?? What is the source and can we trace the tree any further back? Please Email your "TEXAS COUSIN". Thanks! Gailord

I am so glad to find this, as our family tree on this side went as far as Solomon Waggoner and Elizabeth McGaugh and no further. With this I now have 4 more generations, in this line.

I am a direct descendant of Solomon Waggoner (1804 - 1849) and Elizabeth Martha McGaugh (1808 - 1878)m. circa 1825.

My daughter Deborah Starke Bulloc has compiled our family geneology on this site. (Starke Family Tree).

I have been trying to find my wagner ancestors for years and all ive been able to come up with so far is the names of my Grest Grandfather and Great Grandmother. I beleive that Emery Wagner came from Nebraska? Also has at least one brother Carl Wagner or maybe that was his fathers name. This is a beautiful site and i hope to learn more of my own history here as well. Thanks Everyone.

PS My biggest question is what happened to my grandfather William "Bill" Wagner - Son of Selah and Emery Wagner
There seem to be some family secrets and i have heard several different stories concerning the circumstances leading to his death but nothing i can know as truth.
If any one knows anything about this, any information would be wonderful. So far i havnt even been able to get an exact date or cause of death.

I have recently found out my birth father's name is "Wagner" from Iowa.
I was born in 1960 in California (where my mother went to give birth) He was described as "mixed American" heritage..perhaps the youngest of 7 children, the only boy! His mother was very tall (5'9") which explains why I am 5'10" and my daughter is over six ft.! I don't want to create controversy..only to reconnect. I was raised in New England so I am very curious about the Iowan relatives..thank you in advance for responding....

My great grandmother was married to Valentine Schmittel and lived in Warrior's Mark, PA in the early 1800s. She was born in 1811 and died in 1844. She is buried in the Baptist Cemetery in Warrior's Mark.
Her dad was Joseph Wagner who died in 1838 and her mother was Elizabeth Wagner born in 1790 and died in 1858. They were residents of Franklin Township, Huntingdon County, PA.
I am very interested to get any information on this family. Does anyone have any clues for me? I would love to find a picture of great grandmother Esther.
Thanks so very much.

My Mom, Lorine, is the first daughter of Claude Waggoner's second wife, Pauline. Claude is the son of Rufus. We are doing some research on our family ancestry. We found a many times copied Introduction to a book entitled "Old Jake Wagner" which has a great deal in it about our ancestors. I was wondering if you knew where we could find a copy of the book so that we could scan in pages of it for our family website or if possible purchase one for the family. I thought you might know where we could get one as in the copy we have there is a picture of the land grant and settlement map I found on your website. Thank you.

I am looking for information on Wagners prior to my GGG Grandfather John Wagner (1814-1889) and his wife Elizabeth (1806-1885)of Bath, Northampton Co., PA. I believe his ancestors may have come from Germany in the early 1700's, possibly thru Philadelphia and Berks Co. PA. I have found several possible candidates but no direct tie to my above John. If you have any possible clues, please contact me. Thanks! Don

Hello, I am the Granddaughter of Robert Newton Graham. His Grandmother was Mary Waggener Graham born 1820. She was the Granddaughter of Mary Chapman Waggener and Andrew Waggener both born in 1746 and 1742 respectfully. James was born in 1790 and Mary's father. I am researching my roots and would like to validate these assumptions. I am novice at geneology but I am history buff that is anxious to find the facts. My tree is on Ancestory.com and Barbara Stallings Family Tree is the most complete at this point. Thank you for this information. B

My grandparents were from Johnstown Pennsylvania. Looking for information on Jacob Wagner born 1815 in Pennsylvania and married Hanna Gain. Children included Samuel b. 1855 and died 1936 in Cambria County Pennsylvania. Samuel's wife was Mary Elizabeth (maiden name unknown). Any information would be great. Have a great day.

Comments:
Just ran across your site. My great-grandfather Luthor Waggoner & my grandfather Cecil had land in Rowan County NC (Bear Poplar, near Salisbury). Was wondering if we are related.

I've always heard stories about our original German ancestor being a mercenary in some war (Revolutionary?) who was captured and given two options: Marry take some land and start a farm, or hanging. So, he chose the family & land.

Does this sound familiar?

I was recently given a copy of my Wagner descendants by John Wagner, who was a cousin to my grandmother. When I have finished reading it, I will pass it along to you.
Thank you for all the work that you have done on this project! It will make for some very interesting reading over the next few (cold) months. Perhaps we are related! Sincerely, Darlene Kuehl

My great great great grandmother was Ernestina Wagner from Wurttemberg. She was my father's mother's maternal grandmother. She was born on May 29, 1848 and came to the US as a child and married John (Johann) Gustav Bischoff on 6 Sept 1868 in New Jersey. She died on 30 Oct 1925 in NJ. I don't know which town in Wurttemberg her family was from, so cannot trace her. Her father was William (Wilhelm) and her mother was Karoline ?. Does anyone have either Ernestine or Wilhem and Karoline in their database?
Thanks. Barbara

Hi,

I am a 40 year old lawyer (barrister)in Brisbane, Australia. I was doing some history research and located your website. The best I know of my Wagner origin is that my Great Great Grandfather, Johannes Gottfried Wagner, came out from Silesia as a Missionary to Brisbane in 1838 to try and convert aborigines to christianity. In time he became a Presbyterian Minister. I see that your forbears left what became Germany many years beforehand. I know nothing of any forbears that pre date my Great Great Grandfather as many records were destroyed during World War II as I am told.

Anyway, all the best with your admirable endeavours,

regards,

Julian

The Wagners who came to Texas spelled the name as Waggoner. A Catherine Waggoner married James A. Daniel in 1850 in Lincoln Co., TN and moved to Texas a few years later. James Daniel's youngest brother was Jack Daniel of whiskey fame.
