Hello! I am so glad I found your site. I am searching my family from Bladen, Sampson, Pender, Duplin, and New Hanover Counties as well. I am a distant relative of yours as my Great Grandmother was Geraldine Horrell Flynn. She was the daughter of William G. Horrell and Spicey Moore. I have information that you could add to your website if you would like. You have a photo of Minnie Esther Horrell Woodcock on your site and she was my Great-Great Aunt and I remember going to her home. She used to make these small straw brooms to sweep with that I so loved. Please contact me as I have some questions and information for you! Blessings, Dena

I have learned so much from your site. I have a family Bible of my parents that connects back to many people on your lists. Griffith Barnhill was my great great grandfather on both sides of my family. My parents were apparently half second cousins. Griffith's second child by his first wife, Narcissa, was my grandmother, Mary Hargrove Pridgen's mother. His third child by his second wife, Clarence, was my grandfather, Walter James Barnhill's father. I want to help you in any way I can.

Clifton Ray Barnhill, son and fourth child of Marguerite Pridgen and Ronald James Barnhill

My grandmother was Wilma barnhill Kelley, her parents were Albert and Emily Barnhill. Even when I was a kid going to Grandma Emily's house it was like going back in time, pumped water on the back porch with the old hand pumps and using a outhouse, sometimes i miss those days, how great is it to be able to come to a site like this and go back in time for a while and remember our families. Bill you're put a lot of time and effort in this site and I'm sure i can speak for everybody we appreciate it.
Bill my offer still stands, when you get tired of NYC, let me know and I'll come get you

Very good....brought back a lot of "growing up" memories.

My grandaddy was Phillip Barnhill from Rowan and my parents were Roscoe and Ruby Barnhill. My mother (Ruby Barnhill) played the piano for almost seventy years for Rowan Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. Ivanhoe and Rowan on Black River was a great place to grow up.

I moved back to the the Atkinson area on Beattys bridge Rd. after being away for 40 years. I live across the road from Cone's Folly and I enjoy gardening and playing in my greenhouse. I was an RN for 35 years but decided to retire and try something else. I graduated from Atkinson High School in 1958 which is more years than I want to think about. I am just so blessed to be alive and in good health. Thanks so much for putting together all of the great history in this area. My spouse and I attend the Black River Presbyterian church in Ivanhoe.

If you are ever in the area I would lie to meet you some day.

My great grandmother was Mardie Floss Barnhill and I have not had any contact with the family since my grandfather passed as he lived far away from his surviving sisters who have sinced passed in finding their obituaries online. Thanks so much for putting together all of this information as the Clark/Barnhill side of the family is the only one I am missing information on.

Neat bio. I also know Annie Maud, Margeurite (Pug), Nancy and Jim as well as Olga and Margeurite Corbet (Burns and Eakins). Are you related to Chester Barnhill? Have you seen the movies that my father made of the farm on Beatty's Bridge Road in the late 1930's? I've given copies of my collection to Julie Woodcock. BTW, I dated Faye Corbett for some time. My father bought his land from her grandfather 'Wil' Corbett in 1927.

How did you find my website? Searching for info of drowning of Nettie &Troy Woodcock
Comments:
I was looking for info for Elmore's Inlet @Topsail. I know that is where my Great grandfather & Great grandmother (Troy & Nettie) drowned. I found your info. I learned alot from reading your info. My Grandfather (James Ellis Woodcock) was very young (maybe 5 or 6). I remember my Papa(James Ellis) telling me that his brother Curtis became a Preacher because God had spared his life that tragic day.(Curtis was the 9 yr. old that survived Elmore's Inlet.)
I enjoyed your info.

How did you find my website? internet search for Tabitha Devane
Comments:
Very nicely done. I am decended from James and Rebecca through Hayes, the Robert Lee, then my father James Vance Horrell. Have you yet been able to place this Tabitha Devane. She is possibly the daughter of George Devane and Miriam Treadwell, but since George died in 1810 (his will mentions a daughter Tabitha) and the census records give her birthdate as 1812 it is hard to prove..However if one looks closely at the month each census was taken it seems she may have been unclear about her actual b.date. It seems that Miriam died in Monroe Alabama so it is possible that Tabitha was not raised by her biological parents. do you have any clues ?

What a mission you have undertaken to explain in detail your
life history. When you talked about tobacco, sweat ran down
my cheeks. I escaped just to distance myself from that type
of farming. I can't help but admire your oils and your talents to put together a history such as this one. I have been in genealogy for some time, but have never seen a better Site anywhere. Incidentally, I have downloaded ever
bit of you information and have placed it in my Heritage
Books for my use and to display to my relatives at our reunion. I hope this is acceptable. Your life story has
awaken a spirit in me because we traveled down the same paths except a few years apart.
I know you are proud

I am like you, never thought about tracing my family roots but I have found your work to be so interesting and boy does it bring back a lot of memories, some of which I choose to forget. (tobacco, blueberries etc) Boy, was that ever hard work.
It is obvious that you are truly enjoying the research it takes to find this information and you have truely done a great job.
Your grandchildren are precious. My granddaughter graduates this year. Seems only yesterday she was as small as yours so enjoy every min. you have with them as time really passes quickly.
I will surely visit your site again to read added info.

How did you find my website? Looked for Barnhills in Bladen County
Comments:
Your site is very informative. I have emailed you once before to tell you that James J.Barnhill Jr. was my GG Grandfather but I overlooked the the portion of your site that described the family of James J Jr. in depth. If you look at that portion of your site under the 1880 census you have my Great Grandfather listed there.
He is Alonzo Walker. My Grand Mother's name was Mary Elizabeth Walker born May 13,1879 and I wonder if her name is incorrectly listed as Mary Ellen Walker 11 mos. which would have been her age since she was born in 1879.
Do you have any idea where any of these folk were buried?
My Grandfather and Grandmother are buried at the Old Brown Marsh Presbyterian Church near Clarkton NC andit would be great to know where some of the others are burried also.
Thanks for sharing your site.

Bennie

Uncle Billy i think this is amazing. Its a little harder for me to put everone together and understand exactly whos who and where i come from since im not around the barnhill side of my family as much. It means a lot to know where you came from. I think you have done a fantastic job with this. I cant believe you could find that much out over ten years! Im so amazed. When i look at all the old photos i can see my sister and myself in thier faces especially the ones of grandaddys sisters (not to mention the ones of you as a child, i never realized you favor grandma so much!). I have trouble finding the words to describe it. All i can say is that you have done an outstanding job!
