Thanks so much for publishing this. My grandfather and namesake wrote this, and I really got a kick out of reading his history. He passed on in August of 1999, but I remember his tales of the war and his time (30 years) in the Army, his favorite subject. Thanks!

My dad, T/4 Willard Mitchell served with HQ unit. He used to regale me with storys from both the horse-drawn days and the days after becoming motorized. Recognized two names, T/5 Buck and Cpl. LaRue. I met them both a number of years after the war. I also recall the name of Christian...don't remember much about him. I still have a few pictures of my dad at Yosimite and the panoramic picture of the entire Battalion standing retreat. (Sidebar here...That Battalion photograph has appeared ina PBS documentary about the evolution of our national parks. I can still pick out my dad, he was the guidon for the HQ unit. It's wonderful to find the complete wartime history of the 74th FA. Thank you for the story.

Hi, Greg, I see my father's post now, Marion T. Neabuhr. Sure looks fine, don't you think? I believe my dad was age 23. Thanks for the work!

Thanks for the great historical web site! I recently acquired a 1942 Thanksgiving menu with the roster of men in Battery C, 74th Field Artillery Battalion in San Rafael. I would like to learn more about Battery C including where it was and the dates it was at San Rafael. Any other info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help.

My father is James M. Page who is listed under Maintenance/Headquaters Battery as T/5 Driver, Page. Is this correct? I was pleased to find this history. Is there more history out there?

My father, Marion T. Neabuhr served 4 years in this battalion. He is now 93 and in fair health. He has told us these WW II soldier stories all our lives! :)
