I am researching the Boykin family. My great grandfather Augustus Boykin was born in North Carolina in 1824. He moved to Mississippi and married a woman named Carolina. I don't have her maiden name yet.

I am researching the Boykin family (my husband's family). My grandfather-in-law and his twin sister seemed to have been disconnected from their family. He lived his adult life in Alabama but had some early ties to Mississippi specifically a town that began with "L." Are there any twins in your family? They were been born circa April 1889. I believe their father was Allen Boykin and mother was MaDora (or something similar).

Hi-
I just wanted to stop by and say what a wonderful website you guys have. I actually came across your website doing research on a program that some of my family members assisted with at the Church of the Good Shepherd back in the 30's. They were not members of the congregation, they actually attended St. Edmund's also in the same neighborhood.
After looking through some of your data I am positive that some of the Boykins knew some members of my family. Particularly Arsenius who may have known my Gr Gr Grandfather John W.E. Rockwell. John came to Chicago in 1919 from Cincinatti. He was also a chief poultry inspector for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He invented a certain type of knife scaffold for the meat he was inspecting. He also owned his own business which was kind of a black version of Tiffany & Co. He made lamps and jewelry that were all handmade. The pieces were so exquisite that Marshall Fields and the chicago jeweler C.D. Peacock sold his pieces in their store making him the first black vendor for a major dept. store. He had two residences in Chicago. One in the Ogden Park neigbhoorhood in Englewood and the other on Washington Park Ct. He also had a summer cottage in Michigan. He was very well with math that he even helped his daughter Sophie with her accounting work who later became one of the first black CPA's in the state, after Art Wilson and Mary Washington. Not to run off to much but I say all this because it's almost scary how much my relative's life parallels that of Arsenius. I even recall going to school with some Boykins in the south suburbs of Chicago. John and his family attended St. Edmund's Episcopal though, but worked in assisting with some programs at Good Shepherd.
Anyway, I just wanted to say that you have an outstanding website and it's great to see that you guys have been able to retain your family's place in history.

I am researching the Freeman surname. I was told that 5 Freeman brothers came to America from Germany. I am sure that the name was not spelled Freeman in Germany. I can only go back to John P. Freeman, born about 1870 in North Carolina. He married Mary. Left N.C., came to McNairy Co. Tennessee. Does anything sound familiar. Sure would love to hook up with anyone researching Germany Freemans. Your web site is nice. Peggy Carey
