I am looking for my relatives from Macon, Ga. My mother's first cousin Linda McCook passed away in the late 60's or early 70's. She had 3 sons, Roger, Troy, and "peanut" I'm not sure of peanut's name. The boys were all young when their mother passed from cancer. Their father and her husband was James McCook. I went to the funeral in Macon as a young girl and that's the last time I saw the boys.

Hello again,
My g-grandfather, Alexander McCook, b 1842, Clintyfinnan, Antrim Co, Ireland, immigrated to the U.S. He had a brother, Archibald who immigrated to Austrailia. I've made some contact with McCook/es of Antrim and the McCook's in Austrailia but I'm really interested in additional siblings of Alexander and their descendents (probably still in the Antrim area). But have yet to make that direct link, there area many McCook/es in this part of Ireland. Please contact me if you have anything going back to the 1840's link to Alexander's siblings, or parents! Although I have no direct link to the "Tribe of Dan" otherwise known as"The Fighting McCooks" if anyone is interested, there's a new book out, www.thefightingmccooks.com/book.html. The fighting McCook's were brothers and son's of Daniel McCook,b 1798 of Canonsburg, PA whose father was George McCook from Ireland -there's the link I'm looking for! Best to all!

I have enjoyed reading about your McCooks. Mine dropped the Mc in Scotland about 1810 and became Cook. Mr great grandfather, baptised at Skipness, Kintyre, migrated to USA in the 1850's. His name, Neil McDonald Cook. He married Jane Hunter in marshall County, Ms in 1858. He died during the Civil War. No record exists that I can find. However the marriage records and family of his grandpaents are available in the parish records of Saddell and Skipness, Argyll cty, Scotland. My grandfather Cook did not remember his father and his mother died while he was still a youngster, so the early history in this country is lost. I have tried to track down family stories that came down the pike and most rurn out to be just "stories". I keep watching for a McCook from Kintyre about 1800 and before. The earliest I can detect is 1799 in my family line. Thank you, Bill Terry

Dear Linda,
Have always wondered how your research was proceeding and today, as the result of a friend's curiosity, came across
your amazing notebook, reading the many wonderful and enlightening entries. I noted some place that John, father of Roderick, had only sons but no daughter listed. Surely an
ovesite. Also, that photos of Daniel's Tribe were included but none of John's? Much more I should like to discuss with you, including a "family" reunion or reunions - east, south, west and wherever - as time permits. Congratulations on your fine efforts but then, what would one expect from a "fighting McCook". Best, John.

I am aware that my family came out to New Zealand to fight in the Maori wars around the 1870's, which was a British colony. McCook is an old surname dating from Kintyre and Arran in Scotland. The earliest refernce I have to the mccooks is a John mccook who was a tennant under the douglases in Garvald scotland in 1376. Elizabeth McCook was registred in Ireland with her husband john Little around 1822. Daniel McCook and sarah Cooper were married in Ballymoney Parish county Antrim on the 12th december 1845. The McCooks arrived in the US around 1848 aboard the senator.
All the McCooks are related in New Zealand and Australia and are believed to have arrived from the states.

I am a McCook from Georgia, we have been in this state since the early to mid 1700's. I have always been told that three brothers fled from Scotland to avoid persucution, one went south, one went west(Pennsylvania), and one stayed east. You might be interested in the fact that immediately after the Civil War, a McCook was in charge of the Federal soldiers stationed in Albany,Ga. Which is near (Fitzgerald,Ga)where my father's family was living during that time.

My paternal grandmothers mainden name was Ida Rutherford McCook. According to my mother (age 91) she was the daughter of Anson G. McCook, a scion of the "Fighting McCooks" of Ohio. My father is deceased, so I cannot ask him, however my mother is quite certain of my fathers pride in his famous ancestor. So far I have been unable to connect Ida McCook as in fact being the daughter of Anson McCook. Perhaps you have some information about Anson's family. It appears that, after the war, he moved to New York, where, running for office he became a U.S. congressman, and, then a secreatry of the US Senate.
