Hi, I wonder if you have any family stories that say what became of William Tallman, the person who was suspected of killing Virginia Patty. She was my grandmother, though I was born many years after her murder. We had a family story that the man who supposedly did it(Mr Tallman) escaped from the boat on the way to Alcatraz, the reality is that they were supposedly holding him on the ship on the way to San Francisco, and when the boat docked, he wasn't where he was supposed to be. Detectives combed the ship, but no William Tallman. I've read several old newspaper articles about it and all sorts of people in all sorts of places were "spotting" William Tallman on the street. As far as I know they never found Mr Tallman and the murder was never solved. Do you have any family stories of what became of him? Virginia Patty was born Viola Scott in Iowa and seemed a very frivolous sort of woman--but she was a very young woman who should have lived till she was very old.

My full name is Robert Burton Edwards, III.
My grandmother may be the daughter of Sarah Ann Scarlett, but I doubt it. Here is my family information (Hicks).
My grandmother was born in June 16, 1900, but no 'town' was listed. Her maiden name was Dora Bell Hicks.
My grandfather has Parsons, KS as his place of birth on my parents marriage license. My grandfathers name is Robert Burton Edwards.
My father was born in Yuma, AZ on June 16, 1939 (yes, identical day as his mother, my grandmother).
My grandparents moved from Kansas to Colorado then finally settled in Arizona and raised a family before he passed away.
My father, Robert Burton Edwards, Jr., went to an Edwards (or Hicks?) family reunion in the 1940s/50s in north Texas, I think Lubbock. But that's all the information I have. He lost track of his family and it has fallen on me to retrace my heritage.
If there is any connection, don't hesitate to email.
Very nice website.

My husbands grandpa william killen who was married to mrytle bell bloomfield was killed in a mine at which he worked in carter county kentucky (we were told he was robbed and murdered and put there to look like an accident.)this left 5 children orphaned essie, julia, emma, omer, & stanley killen. so we are left with little information on williams parents and really digging to find we think they might have been william morgan and minerva killen not sure yet.were looking for any help we can find.thanks karen killen jkkillen@hotmail.com

Name: Carol Scarlett <cascam627@aol.com> Date: 2003-08-11 How did you find this site? By accident Surnames you are researching Scarlett and Crabtree are the start of the family as I know it. Any info you found useful? Have to look it over Comments:
Thomas Scarlett was born in Orange County, NC somewhere around 1800. He married Willie or Wiley Crabtree in 1833. He died in Monterey, Mexico in 1848, in the War with Mexico. He left six children, but the eldest, Ann, is not named in any of the pension records. Could that be because she was over 16? Could she have been born to one or the other of them before 1833? Was Thomas married before? Did his wife die? Did he marry Willie because he had a child to be cared for? Or was it the other way around. So many Thomases. Was he the Thomas born to George Scarlett & Elizabeth Hartsfield? Lots of questions. My husband's family still lives on Scarlett Mountain in Orange County. The family cemetery is there.
Always happy to find others searching Scarlett. If I gather enough information perhaps it will all fall together in time.
Thanks. Carol

Fascinating site and very interesting info on your Pace line.Your line is not related to my PACE line, at least research and recent DNA tests seem to prove 2 separate lines. I am the membership chairman for the PACE Society of America. I have done a lot of research on Pace's, especially in Colorado, where I live. My father was born in Paradox, Colorado, and his mother, Blanche Couraud Pace is buried in the Paradox cemetery. You have her listed on your site for Cemeteries. Blanch is not related to your Pace line. Please feel free to e-mail me as I can help you separate my Pace line from yours. I also have history on the well know Joseph "Joe" Pace of Glade Park Colorado, born in Salado, TX, who is related to your Iowa Paces.
Lots of fun researching all Pace's.

Very interesting family tree. Have you ever heard of the Killen family from Greenhill, Alabama. My fathers family, wiht many still living, are from that area. Greenhill is about 15-20 minutes out of Florence located in Northwest Alabama. My fathers name is Paul Glenn Killen. His father was Albert Killen. Many Killen's and their family have lived in that area since the 1800's. I wish I had more to provide you on this email. If you desire, I can probably provide more by mail. Perhaps somewhere the paths of the Killen's I viewed in this sight and the Killen's in Alabama crossed somewhere.

This 1907 letter represents biggest discovery on the family of William Pace, Sr. since the 1815 deed of Scott County, Virginia was published in Noble Pace's book in 1962. I published an 864 page in 1988 on my "Shelton, Wininger and Pace Families" which I wished I would have this letter then. I guess it was not meant to be at that time (but better late than never). My web site now has around 20,000 Pace cousins documented and is growing all the time: http://www.rcasey.net/acrobat/pac0203c.pdf for the latest "Pace Family History." I split up my book into three books since I now have over 25,000 on these three lines. Do not forget to look at "Wininger Family History" and "Shelton Family History" as the have 1,000s of Pace relatives in them as well. Have over 200 intermarriages between these three lines (primary in Scott County, VA and Jackson County, AL where the families lives since the early 1800s). This year has been an unbelievable year of genealogical discoveries for me on all my lines. This 1907 letter is only one of a dozen major finds - why this year and not the previous ten or fifteen years will remain a mystery to me - more interest, the Internet, who nows ?

I am searching for Elija Allison Webber and his wife Elizabeth Ellen Banta. She died in Sumner, Colorado in 1909 and he died in 1910. I am assuming he died there as well. Does this family appear in any of your records? Thanks for your help.

I DO believe that WE are related (You poor souls!)
Heres what I have -- our old john Somner -Sumner came to Nansemond county Va ca 1640(born in U.K. ca 1618 proven)
I have traced him back to our Robert Sumner (Quaker)whose son bowater left Greensboro N.C.,went to Ohio; From there MANY Sumners went to Ohio, then on to Indiana ,where some remained Quakers.
Then many of the Sumners went west to Ks.,Ia to Nb; Two of the Sumner boys were badly beaten in Ia --one died.
So,if this remotley rings a bell --LETS TALK AND EXCHANGE INFO!!
Lemm'e know COUSIN SUMNER

Very nice site, easy to use. I am researching Charles Wesley Pace, brother of Feroby, Nancy, Edward and Mary, all of whom married Scarlett's who are listed on your site.
An unexpected surprise was finding Jemima Dunbar of Orange C. IN. I believe she is a sister of another ancestor. I will have to do more research but she is in the right place at the right time. Thanks!

Betty, This is great! I will send you some that Dwight forwarded through Larry, one of the old 5 sumner bros. (Peter's generation). I loved the photos of the Killen/noland information, and have downloaded the photos for my collection. I had seen them before, but don't remember where. Well, off to do some more looking around your site. By the way, when is the Marsh Reunion? I called Gennie and told her to meet me in Tulsa, and we would go. My mom is ill, and travel isn't very easy.
Love jen.

Hi Guys!
I was looking for the site, but could not remember the URL. I typed "shadywood" and "baker" into the Yahoo.com search box, and an old version with no links was the first search result. It included full name, phone number, and address in the description. Also, I could not pull up this URL in Netscape.
The site looks great!
Love, Rachael
