I am a desscendant of Congers and Allens who came from NY to Armada MI. My ancestor from NY was Douglass Allen who married Ph(o)ebe Conger. The Allen history tells us that they came from Sangerfield in the early 1800s. (they were both born about 1805) We have discovered the Congers in our area, (Port Huron,MI)that were direct descendants of that marraige and the siblings of Ph(o)ebe Conger

Seeking family history information pertaining to John Pearl born 1834, Oneida County, NY. He was the son of Orange Pearl and Ellen Timason (Tymason?), of NY. The father, Orange, was a native of New York, a Puritan, and served in the Revolutionary War. The mother, Ellen, was daughter of John Timason, born in Germany, immigrated to New York and also served in the Revolutionary War. I have some information that indicates Ellen Timason's mother was Mary Crill also of New York. There is no legal documentation reflecting this that I am aware of.

Any assistance would be appreciated in locating documentation of John Pearl and his ancestors.

In your Census listing there is a page listing Land Owners of 1814 submitted by Lois Morrill. In the town of Steuben is listed a Merrick Moore, my great great uncle. I asked the land record's clerk in Oneida County Clerk office to search this out, but he has found nothing for that time, but did find Merrick had bought land in 1817 and 1832. Could you please point me in the direction of the source of Lois's list. Where did it come from, does it tell the location of the property, size etc.? I would like to provide the Oneida County Clerk better information so they could find the registration.
Thank you, Jay Moore

This site has been of tremendous help in piecing together my maternal grandmother's family tree. I have visited the site many times over the past few years & always come away with some information. Today, I realized that my grandmother, her daughter & granddaughter all share the same birthdate as the murder date of Abbey Elizabeth Sanders, my grandmother's great aunt. The tragedy greatly impacted my grandmother's family & nearly 150 years later, I have a greater understanding of my family's dynamics.

Thank you for all the work on this site!

I did a 'google' tonight on my name and was very surprised that one of the hits was the rootsweb listing for my grandmother's gravestone in the Holland Patent Cemetery (her name was Edith Thomson Candee -- I was named for her). This was new information for me (the photo was taken in June 2006, so that's why I hadn't seen it before.) It said the picture could be viewed at that website, so I went to that site and printed a copy of her gravestone and found my grandfather's and great grandfather's too. I printed the information about them as well (it listed their birth and death info, etc.) I've never been to the Holland Patent Cemetery. Then I found this site. I didn't want to infringe on any copyright, so thought I would check to see if it was ok to print the information on the Candee family. It's just for my own use. I thought I would let my sister and my cousin know about it as well. My aunt (Constance Patton) and my father (Charles Frederic Candee) were the daughter and son of Edith Thomson Candee and Charles Agustus Candee. My aunt did extensive work on the Candee genealogy and her daughter (my cousin, Karen Schaefer) has continued. I have some pictures of my grandmother and grandfather and other relatives and I believe my cousin does as well. Are you interested in copies? I also looked for the Candee name in the "obituaries" but didn't get any hits. I believe we have copies of those. Are you trying to get all those that you can? I certainly appreciate the work of Kathy Last who took the pictures of the gravestones. Everson Clark ws also very helpful when I had a question about the location of my grandparents' gravestones.

You did a GREAT JOB!!! everything was easy to find, didn't take hours {like in Syracuse}. I live in Syracuse and have to use the site, cause the family is from around here, 1/2 the Cemeteries don't have a listing example Woodlawn, Morningside, Oakwood, you have to go the cemetery. And when you are looking up a family, no one wants to spend a hour or so with one person looking up family. On the Onondaga site first you go here then, there and back to here. it can take hours and end up with nothing. Again GREAT JOB!!!!

I am looking for a marriage certificate for a William F. Filkins and an Annie O'Reilly who were married between 1880-1890 at St Mary's Catholic Church in Utica New York. William could have been known as "Willie" or "Wm F" and the last name could have been spelled many different ways, including "Felkins" & "Filkens". Annie has shown as a first name of "Anne" as well. We believe William Filkins was originally born in Columbia County, New York around ?1854?1856? and grew up in Sodus, Wayne Conty, New York.(1880 census) The only census record I have for Annie before the marriage puts her in Utica, New York in 1880.
If anyone has any info, please respond. Thanks!

My James & Roxanna Harris lived in Florence for about 60 years (abt 1820-1880) on a farm there and had a large family. I'm looking for anyone who may have information on the family. I can't find where they are bured in Florence. Here are their children or James other siblings that lived in Florence: Wallace Harris b 1820-1825; William W. Harris (Charlotte D.) 1825-1866 their children were Cathie A and Willie A. Harris; Joseph A. Harris b1832; Cynthia b1834 married Franklin Durst, son of Alpheus Durst; Hannah P. b1836 married David Brown (ME Church pastor) and poss. removed to Palermo, NY; Harriet Harris b 1840; Lydia P. Harris b 1848; Leander F. Harris b1838 married Hannah Hall of Cicero, NY, they removed to Toledo, Ohio after the civil war. I think the "P" initial is for surname "Potter" for Roxanne's maiden name may have been. In 1850 living at the home is a 46 year old man born in 1804 named Elial M. Potter born in Connecticut and listed as insane. James and Roxanne stayed on the farm until their deaths abt 1870 to 1881. Please email me if anyone can help with the Harris family of Florence. My father was one of these orphans. Family of LaFontaine who lived in the area.
Search out mother of John Henry Lafontaine, adopted by Fred and Ada Hide/Hyde-Havener from Verona.
Later Fred Married Hilda Woods from Higgensville, they had 10 children.
Please is there anywhere to go look for the infants that went through the St Joseph's infant Home in 1913-1915.
How were these infants brought to the nuns who ran the home.
There must be some paper trail some where.
Maybe thru Utica, NY.
Hope to put an end to the empty arms of the family.

I am very busy with my husband's genealogy. He just turned 82, and his children want to know "everything". So I have been very busily reading all your wonderful information. I bet I know more of their history than they do. The good part is that his memory is starting to work on this with us. Your site is great. Thank you. the lineage goes way back, and the main figure is Peter Van Dyke, b. 1810, and his wife Sarah Van Buskirk. I am Dutch, and have tried to find out when they came, but it goes back to 1652 maybe, when father Van Dyke took 7 children to New Amsterdam!

We have a small genealogy group in northwestern New Brunswick, Canada. In a donated scrapbook, we found a story about Leslie Warnick Brown, and his wife, Ann, of Utica, New York. They were hunting in the Riley Brook area when Mrs. Brown suffered a serious back injury. After more than a month had passed, and living in a tent in -30 degree temperatures, Mrs. Brown was carried out of the woods and returned to Utica, where she later died of pneumonia. This is to have happened in 1912. I thought the story was quite interesting, and if anyone is interested in a copy of it, we could see that you got one. <br>Great site, by the way! Lots of good information.

This a marvelous Website!! Thank you, thank you for all the hard work and dedication to create and maintain it.
From 1977 to 1984, we lived in Rome, one of the most wonderful homes we have had. We miss Oneida Co. greatly. While my children were at school,I spent many productive hours in the Jervis Library researching my HART FAMILY (JAMES, PETER and others) in PARIS, ROME, TABERG, and ANNSVILLE in the early 1800s (MONTGOMERY CO. NY before that). I'm back researching again and appreciate all the information on this site and appreciate being able to get in touch with others looking for my HARTS.
I saw that on this website in May 1999, Wolf Duby wrote about looking for data on PETER HART b.1786. My email to him at his 1999 email address was returned so I am mailing him as well as am hoping he'll check and see this message. I have much information for him as well as contacts with others that share this search! Thank you again.
