William Sistrunk (1819-?1865), son of David Sistrunk of Madison (d.1853) first bought land in 1855 on the Suwanee River near Hatchbend, about nine miles from what is now Branford. Contiguous to his properties were those of Sarah Edwards and William Edwards. The relationship to the Edwards family is not yet established although it is known William Sistrunk married one Sarah Edwards. Family lore claims that William Sistrunk was 'killed' when his daughter Eliza Eveline was young. Reading the article about the history of Troy Springs suggests he may have been a victim of the lawlessness in 1865 in New Troy. William and Sarah are found on the 1860 census for New Troy (New Boston Post Office) and Sarah is found with the family in the 1870 census.
I would be very interested in learning more about the events in New Troy in the period 1864-65.

I am seeking any information on this family. Below is all that I have so far on them. I know that Lafayette was the son of Allen Mayo born in GA in 1801, and his mother was Sally Falbia Cobb Mayo born in 1810. Acording to family tradition he left to go south into Florida to farm. His oxen died so he was left in what is today Lafayette County. There he supposedly started a sawmill. The town of Mayo there is reported to have been named after him or a son of his that fought in the Civil War. If you have any information to verify this or to disprove it, please lat me know. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
