Name: Glenn Lane <glennlane1@aol.com> Date: 2006-11-14 How I found this site If we are related unsure Comments:
Family lore says that my grandfather, Lewis Lovell Lane was born in Port Huron, MI on Apr 15, 1876, the son of George Lane and Clara Mathews.
However, the only document we have that he ever lived there was the marriage certificate of him and his wife, Clementine Biddlecombe, married in Port Huron on November 23, 1898. My sister and I have spent countless hours on the internet, plus a trip to Port Huron, trying to solve this puzzle. I have been unable to find the family on the 1880 Federal census or the 1884 Michigan census.
I have extracted from a website references to tax assessments for parcels in Clyde for Allen, William, Leoland, and Bert (and their widows) Mathews for 1870 thru 1916. I will gladly send you a copy of this extract, and/or the website, if you want them.
Is it possible that there was a Clara born, say, before Bert or between Leoland and Clisha, and that she married a George Lane from the Lane clan in Clyde?
Thank you,
Glenn Lane, Oakland, California

Jack F. Mathews living and dieing in Port Huron Michigan was married to Miriam BOGUE--NOT ROGUE as listed in some of your data. She was born in Marion, Indiana. Her father was Philip Bogue and mother Faye. Philip Bogue's parents were Pearl and Flora Bogue.
His father was Frederick George Mathews born February 22nd, no year, mother Mabel Schaeffer (sp?). We think Mabel had a sister Bess. All from Port Huron, Michigan.

you have a Henry Rotton in your surname list, I am not sure how he is related to you but he is my 1/2 great uncle.
His father Henry Otto Rotton was married a first time to Mary Fanny Davis and had a daughter Lucy Rotton who is my great grandmother, Mary died and Henry married a second and then a third time to Florence H Dee in Hurtsville and they had a child who is your Henry Rotton and who married Ivy Hooker. He was Lucy's 1/2 brother and hence my 1/2 great uncle.
if you are interested I have some more info on the Rotton family and have some transcriptions coming my way next week too.

Hi there Dawn,
I've just finished browsing your site... thank you for sharing the info!
My cousin and I have been trying, so far unsuccessfully, to connect our MAT/T/HEWS branch to Peter MATTHEWS of the 1837 rebellion. We're told our line is related, however are still on the search :-)!
I noticed you had a reference on your site to a book written by Richard Mathews. Would you know the title of that book? I'd like to see if I can find a copy.
Also, I see that you have a Jonathan Mathews recorded as father of Thomas Elmes. Would you have a source for that?
I'm currently looking into family connections for William Mathews, mayor of Brantford b 1809, d 1877, as well as a George Mathews, owner of an inn near Hamilton. There may be a connection.
If you are interested in my Mathews line, which begins with a John Mathews b @1819 in Ireland, please let me know.
Hope to hear from you soon,
Susan
