My Grandfather George Freer came here from Kent England when he was 21 yrs old which was in or around 1928. I know I still have some cousins, aunts and uncles in England but have never been there. In 1790 there was a Solomon Freer in South Carolina Census;.1810 there is a Mrs Freer;Then in 1870 there is a Stephen Solomon Freer in Wabash Ill, also a rebecca Freer; Can find no listings for a Frair in Ill for 1870 but in 1880 there is a Stephen S Frair, with the same household members and location, then he goes on down the line as Frair. Hoping to locate some relatives... My Grandmother's name was Mary Freer. She was born in 1915 in Toronto and attended school at Central Collegiate in downtown Toronto. Her father died in WWI and her Mother was left a widow. In 1932, Mary found she was unmarried and pregnant. She had twin girls on May 24, 1933. Despite her and her Mother's efforts to support the twins, she eventually gave them up for adoption. Now seeking family information about the Freers. I'd love to know what happened to Mary Freer. My Freer ancestors were from UK but there is a bit of congecture as to where from.

Phoebe was my G.G, grandmother on my fathers side. She married Lewis Marsaw probably, of Ireland. Also John Maynard Fitton (Fenton) of Hammond , New York. John Fitton married widow Myrtle B. Steacy/LaWall, 1895-1974 his first cousin, approx. 1932. Myrtle mother, Ella & Jennie Steacy were sisters. Jennie was Johns' mother. Myrtle married my grandfather Frank B. LaWall approx. 1923, he died approx.1930. Have you ever run across the LaWall family in your extensive research? Especially Frank B. or John D. LaWall? I am having a most terrible time researching Frank my grandfather. I need information on Fitton/Fenton; Stacy/Steacy; Clow/Clough. Are you familiar with the Albert Grendmere(?)Memorial Cemetery? Both grandmothers are from Roscommon, Ireland; along with one grandfather--name of Lanigan, to which another n was added when they came to America.
The Freer was one grandfather from Glasgow, Scotland.First name was Fred who came over with his brother James.
Original history was a great-uncle Wadley who escaped servitude as a bricklayer.

I see your website is with rootsweb. I have a database on thw Worldconnect project page but am looking into the possibility of of starting my own site. There is one problem - I'm a dummy when it comes to computers. I can use them, it's what goes on beyond the keyboard I have trouble with!
I have been using M/S publisher to start putting the site together and this seems to be OK for my needs. Do you have any knowledge regarding the compatibility of Publisher with the Rootsweb system - or - what software do you use to construct your site?

Just surfing out of interest, our name is not that common. I believe that the name comes from Henry de Frere who assisted William in the invasion of England in 1066. As a reward he was given land in Northampton where i understand a concentration of Freers still exists. Indeed my own great-grandfather travelled from Northhampton to Manchester in the mid 1800's to start my family tree.

My gt.grandfather was Arthur Freer, he lived in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire but the family orginally came from Shepshed, Leicestershire. He went to America, I think in the 1880s but came back and married my grandmother around 1889, I cannot find any information on him at all.

I believe that I am more probably descended from the Huguenot side of the Freer family. Those that I have found so far lived and died in New York and the earliest ancestor so far is Solomon Freer born 1799 somewhere in Ulster County, New York and died in Cambria, N.Y. in 1878. His wife was Mary Ann Snyder, from Town of Gorham in Ontario County, N.Y.. Her father's name was Henry Snyder. A large number of the family members are buried at the Budd Road Cemetery in Cambria.

I have only just started looking for my family roots.
I was born 6/11/1967 in Leicester, England. I am married to Paul Richard Eaton. My father is Harold Raymond Freer and he lives in Wigston, Leics, England. His parents were Harold Freer (died 1967) and Winnifred Snutch (died 1986). They lived in Fleckney, Leics. I think there are quite a few relatives in the Arnesby, Countesthorpe area of Leicestershire.I have a sister Joanne Elizabeth Freer (born 7/7/1970)who is married to Anthony Jones. They live in Narborough Leics.

My limited research has revealed that my ancestors originated, in this country, from New Paltz, Ulster County,
New York. My Great Grandfather, Moses Freer, was born there
in 1848 and migrated to Greene County, Illinois to raise his

I am aware that all the differant spellings of my name come from the original FRERE, so why all the alternatives??? And where and why did I pick up the surname Butler-Frere (which I do not use) My old grandmum said - The males take the Butler but the females do not -- Why????? Hello, I have a very elusive FRYER/FRIAR/FRERE/FREER ?? family, who I have been trying to trace for many years now. My great grandmother was Mary Ann Fryer/Friar, [spelt both ways in different records, e.g. shipping list, marriage, children's births and death cert]. Mary Ann Fryer emigrated to South Australia in 1865 on the ship "Clara". It said that she was a single 22year old servant from Gloustershire, travelling alone and knowing no-one in the colony. On Mary's marriage in 1870 she listed her father as John Frederick Fryer, a bootmaker from Birmingham, her mother was listed as Mary Jane Spicer on Mary's death cert. in 1915. [the only time mentioned]But no marriage or birth or Census entry can be found. I, too, have a 'Hefer' in my family line. She was named Alice Hefer, born Germany, circa 1809/10, whose Father was named Jacob. By the time of the 1871 British Census, she was then a 'British Subject'. She died in 1880, aged 70 years. Alice was my 3rd Great Grand-Mother. In my search for my identity I found in Windsor, a set of twins, brother and sister, identity from same named woman who is a different family however could not locate these twins. Freer is the mother's name, married to Pierce, a schoolmaster nearby township. Her name is Frayer but I was told it could have been Freer. Do you have any information on this. I looked up your website as I have Kemp ancestors from Buckinghamshire, England, but i can't see a connection to yours.
Re-your "James Evans [Parents] died in 1911 and was buried in Hensel Green, Rise, London, England. He married Ellen Burke."-are you sure about these place names? I think this should read Kensal Green, a large cemetery in West London. "Rise" is probably Kensal Rise which is close to Kensal Green. Possibly your ancestor lived in Kensal Rise and was buried at Kensal Green.

Just found you and saw two surnames that I will look at on your data base. Thomas and Bennett. My Thomas [Tristram] of Kent County Maryland arrived from England in 1666.
