Sounds like we may have some similar roots. My Grandfather was Charlie or Charles Woody. On one trip to Georgia as a youngster, my Grandfather took me up to 'Woody Gap'. Our organization has recently adopted a recognition program for Georgians who have contributed greatly to our great Georgia outdoors. Arthur Woody is one of those great people and will be among the first to be recognized in an upcoming ceremony in April. His name will be engraved on a permanent plaque to be kept at the Charlie Elliot Wildlife Center in Mansfiled. Are you related to Ranger Woody at all? Comments:	My Grandmother, Dorthy Woody was born in the town of Higdon's Store (Blue Ridge) in Fannin County Georgia in 1911. She was the daughter of Thomas Austin Woody and Florida Patterson. As far as I know his father was Lafayette Mark Woody. Thats all I have from my Woody side so far and would like to know who the father of Lafayette was? I believe that Thomas and his father came from North Carolina. Thomas and Florida also had another daughter named Lula and two son's named Arthur and Charlie. They later moved to Tennessee. Comments:	I Have read the writings of J. J. Woody which talks about the Huff Famliy massacre a little boy was not killed and was adopted by a neighbor. Comments:	I googled my dad's name (Melvin L. Woodard) today and hit this website with a page I believe that was posted by him along with another site with info related to the geneology of Paul Revere. Though I guess I never really thought about geneology research, it's really awesome to see that not only did my late father leave a trail I could follow, but that he had an impact too, on helping others with their interests. Comments:	First, I must comment on the lovely guestbook. It is so easy to scroll through without having to click back and forth. Very well done!! I am a g-g-granddaughter of Josiah Askew Woody who married Rausey Melinda Bryan. Their daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Pricilla Woody married Martin Hatfield Lance. Sarah and Martin moved to territorial Kansas and had eleven children. Number nine was my grandmother, Edith Viola Lance who married James Dove McCaskill. My Mother, Olive Lance McCaskill, is the only daughter of Edith and James. I have eight siblings, so there are a lot of cousins to be discovered at my end! My Mother, Olive, who is 90 now and of very sound mind, has had a mtDNAplus test done with Family Tree DNA because we are interested in finding relatives in our "granny line", Lance, Woody, Bryan, Cain, and beyond??. Beyond would be very exciting!

I don't know anything about the woody family except my great grandfather's name was Abe and my grandpa Taft had sisters named Maimee, Helen, Velma and I don't know anymore names. I also remember hearing about a Clayton and a Warren Woody... Not much to go on I know but if you have any info please let me know. I'm so excited I've never met another Woody, I had no idea so many of us existed... I have attended several family reunions held at the Woody Gap High School, usually in August. Now I see a lot of names on this guest book, but I sure dont see all these people showing up at the reunion, perhaps that renion is just from certain starting points, but I dont see why any one who is a descendant of the Woody in which Woody Gap is named for wouldnt be there. Comments:	I am trying to find the parents of both Hugh Miller/Milner Woody and Margaret Lacy. I have found that Hugh Miller/Milner Woody Born in Chatham North Carolina May 15 1836. But the info I have on his birthday is a few years earlier than what I have written in a Family Bible. But all the other info. of the names of his wives and Children. are all the same. I would like to see if the 1836 date might be an adoption date. A couple of clues that I have are some very unsual names of their children. Aseneth Arminta, Hugh Jeptha, Florence Anora. I have noticed that there is a Woody Woman with the name of Aseneth. but she is in Georgia. My Woody's went from NC. to Indiana to Oklahoma. The other Clue is a Couple with the Names Of Hugh Woody and Elizabeth Chamness they were in the same places at the exact same time of the Woody's that I have, could this really be the parents of my Hugh Woody? Does anyone have the names of this couple Children? Can someone please shed some light on this for me I have been stuck here for sometime now. Comments:	I am 25 now and I am trying to find relatives of my grandfather. I only have a picture and his name. His name was B.J. Woody and he was born sometime around 1910 or 1912. He married my grandmother in or around 1946 when she was 17 years old. Her last mane was Smith. He had Huntingtons Disease when he died in the early 1980's. My mother now has the disease and that's why I am trying to find out if there are other relatives who died of it ; scince the disease is passed on from one generation to the next there has to be line of the disease going back very far. I am from north carolina and so is my family. I found it hopeful that some of the early Woody's had settled in North Carolina. I would appreciate any help or clues you could give me in this matter.

Comments:	Happy New Year, Everbody! I received the following message from a high school friend in Newton Iowa about a Robert I. Woody who was a fighter pilot in WWII in Europe. Here is a question. Our son, Mike, is interested in WW II. He received a book at Christmas that showed a picture of Lt. Robert I. Woody of the 355th Fighter Group whose P51 Mustang was named "Woody's Maytag". He was an "ace" and had 12 swastikas on the plane so he was very adept. Does anyone have information about this Robert Woody? The reference to Maytag (located in Newton) suggests he was from Newton or Jasper County Iowa, but Maytag did make airplane engines (or components) during WWII so it could have been a more general reference. I searched the Woody Family Record which records the descendants of the two oldest sons of my gr gr gr grandfather and covers many (but not all!) of the Woody's who moved from NC to IN to Jasper Co. IA. I found no Robert I. Woody. I found one Robert, no middle initial or birth year given, but who probably would have been about the right age in WWII, judging from his generation. His father was James Woody, who was a "double Woody". His mother was connected to our line and his father was a William Woody, apparently not of our line as he doesn't appear elsewhere in the Record. Comments:	I have looked into everything that I can think of to find my Samuel C. Woody. His son Leonidus Decatur Woody then Addie Lulu Woody Edwards who is my grandmother. I have all the names of Samuel's children and also have found several relatives of Samuel's children. None seem to know anything. I do know he was in the Murray County, Ga. area and Cass and later Gordon County. Many of his children's families are still in that area. On the census reports he shows he was born in N. Comments:	OK here goes... I did a search on your page for my grt grandmother born in 1844 (died in 1924 in Philadelphia) Isadora Marion Wood(d)y. No results, so let me try this: We have a family Bible with her husband William Sydney Fisher (1844-1898), born in Lower Eastern Shore MD and her children (with both spellings of the name). I have census records and city directories from Charleston, SC showing her father: Thomas J Woody, age 42 Her mother: Caroline (Simmons) age 40. A Simmons from MD did some research on this family and they trace back via my grt grt grandmother's father, Stephen, a sea captain from Mass to 1622 and the Fortune (the next ship into Plymouth Colony after the Mayflower) and thus to various relatives (John Alden, the Brewsters) in that colony and to Phillipe De La Noye (who came over on the Fortune too) the ancestor of the Delanos (as in FDR!). Anyway, in the 1870-80 censuses they are in Chicago for a time and after Thomas death Caroline returns to SC. Their children(in 1860)were: Stephen J age 21, Isadora 16, Thomas E 14 (who in CW records shows up as Pvt Edward T in the Brooks Artillery), Pricilla C 12, Benj. LG 10, James G. 8, Frances 6, Alice age 1. My grt grandfather William S also shows up in Brooks Artillery roster as well as 2nd SC Co K (from which Brooks was formed.) The point of all this being: do any of these folks tally with someone in this marvellous web page? Thanks, Tim Fisher

Comments:	I am looking for information regarding John Richard Woody, son of Phillip Woody and Mary Ann Head of Haralson County, Ga. My descendent Mary Adeline Hart 12/31/1862-10/16/1930 married John Richard Woody on 3/6/1881 in Haralson County, Ga. Both are buried in Hollywood Cemetery there. They had the following known children: William W., 5/1882-3/29/1960, James A. Woody 12/5/1883-4/4/1917, Thomas T Woody 9/14/1887-9/13/1913, Luther W Woody 12/27/1889-5/3/1917, Pearl Woody 11/1892 married Marshall McDonald, Lenar P Woody 3/1899-1901, Mary Lou Woody, infant, 12/13/1880-12/14/1880. Comments:	My g-grandfather was Nathan Dixon Woody's only son, Parnell James Woody - 1856-1907 (Chatham Co., NC). Parnell James had five daughters, one of which, Stella Ann, was my grandmother. So the Woody name died out of that branch at that point. I was named for this grandmother. Would love to hear from cousins who are also descended from Nathan or anyone researching this branch.

Comments:	I want to do research on my family tree. The farthest I can go back is to my grandfather, Elgin O. Woody who was born in the 1880's in Lawrence KS. He worked for the railroad for several years. He was married and had at least six children -- Genevieve, Ronald, Hobart, William, Sandra and Elgin. He died in 1977. All I know of my family tree is that it's very diverse -- a mixture of African, Cherokee, Scottish and Irish (and who knows what else.) Now I know how the Jefferson-Hemings descendents feel!! Comments:	My father's name was Rixie Woodie, I'm told his mother was Carrie (sp?) Woodie. She married Clarence Miller after my father was born. Rixie was born 1916 and died 1975. I was adopted as an infant so I don't have very much info. I do know that Rixie married Virginia Worley (my birth mother), after she died he married someone in Fla. and died there. Rixie and Virginia lived in Wilkes Co. N.C. where I was born. I don't know who Carrie's parents were or who Rixie's father was. Help!
