Trying to determine the parents of William b. 1727, as his father, Samuel appears to have married several different women. This is one of only a few connections that I may have to Scotland, so I'd like to get the ancestry right. Almost all of my early ancestors came from England pre-1700.

Thomson family line you are researching Samuel Thomson, Sr.
Comments:
Samuel Thomson, Sr. (d. 1753) was NOT married to Temperance Yancey or Temperance Dumas!

This deed was recorded the same day Samuel, Sr.'s will was probated:

Book: A, Page: 521, Grantor: Edward Lane, Grantee: Thomas Poindexter, Date: 28-Aug-1753
Edward Lane of Louisa Co., planter, to Thomas Poindexter of same, Planter. # 10 current money, 100 acres on branch of Little River commonly called Rocky branch...John Woolum's corner....Thomas Thomson's line....Temperance Yancey's line ... Thomas Poindexter's corner... near Rocky branch in sd. Temperance Yancey's line........ Sig. Edward Lane. Wit. John Snead, William Thomason, James Johnson.

Temperance Yancey was STILL a Yancey!

And Temperance Dumas?

http://www.dumas.com/second.htm
428 Temperance Dumas, born about 1711, married: 1) Robert Yancey (429A), will dated 1745, 2) Prewid Hix (Hicks) (429B) of Louisa county, Virginia.

http://camelotrr.com/heathcock.org/genealogy/ps18/ps18_148.html
[4] - Robert - whose will is found in Louisa county in 1745, is generally accepted as the son of Charles Yancey II - who is to have married Mary Bartlett. His will mentions his wife Temperance (Dumas), daughter Martha, sons, Robert and Charles and executors were his BROTHERS Richard and James Yancey. Other brothers of Robert were Archelaus, Jechonias, and John. Robert apparently had a son Jeremiah who was born after the will was written.

So, Temperance (Dumas) Yancey was the wife of Robert Yancey up until 1745 when he died.

I have a feeling that the myth that Samuel was married to Hannah Glass came from Beverly Stercula's misinformation.

"Old Home Places of Louisa County" By Chisholm and Lillie has pictures of some Thomson homes in the county. On page 142 is a picture of a home, Happy Valley, built on land that belonged to the Thomson family by 1742.
This book is available thru the Louisa Historical Society.

"The Baker Family of England and Central Virginia" by William Thomson Baker Sr.has 26 pages of Thomson history. This information is available at the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints.

I am planning to visit the Louisa County Historical Society Musuem soon to see if old maps there show the location of Thomson property.

Hope to someday find the right connection. You obviously have spent a great deal of time researching your families.

Frederick was a stonemason from Quincy, MA, who supposedly went to GA to work on the Stone Mountain Carving. Have not found the proof of that yet. He was born 1873 and died 1931. He is buried in Quincy Ma, and was married to Helen Findlay, 1873-1947. Their daughter, Flora was my mother in law No further info, unfortunately, but just starting this line.

Happy hunting!
