Comments:	Hi there! I went to an organ recital given by 9 students of Juilliard's in a church in Manhattan a couple of days ago. No, they did not play together, they played one after the other. The middle one of these very gifted and advanced musicians was James Wetzel, from Pittsburgh. I collared him afterwards, complimented him on his Saint-Saens, and told him that I am half a Wetzel also: my mother was a Wetzel, from Ennetbaden, Switzerland. I was born there in 1933, came to the States in 1961, and am now a dual citizen. James told me that there is a Wetzel County in W. Virginia. I googled it this morning, and here we are. My older brother, as a college project, traced the Wetzels back to I believe 1475 or so. They always lived in the area of Baden - Ennetbaden - Wettingen, three adjacent communities in the Kanton Aargau of Switzerland, near Zurich. They were farmers. My Wetzel cousins are still farmers, but no longer in Ennetbaden, which became too urbanized. My Wetzel grandparents sold the farm in the 1930s and bought a nice large farm about 10 miles away, in Buchs, Kanton Zurich. You can have lunch with their offspring, by name of Wetzel, they have a country inn attached to the farm, and you can visit their old quartz sand mine under the property, which is no longer being exploited. When a Swiss gal gets married, the new couple is known by both names, hyphenated, husband's first ... of course. Thus my parents were Paul and Anna Bachli-Wetzel. We were known as the Bachli-Wetzels, to distinguish us from a couple of other Bachli families in the region. The children however, are named only after the father. I am a citizen of Wurenlingen. My Bachli grandfather was born there, but left it at about age 10, never to return. The village hall of Wurenlingen keeps my records: they always know where I live, if I get married the name of the bride is added to my name, children are added, deaths are recorded. And if I fall on hard times, they will give me bed and board in their Poor House. Do you think that Wetzel County in W. Virginia will also look after me, should it becomes necessary? :-)

Comments:	I had two grandmothers and a great grandfather living in the area when I was a kid. I am now (2009) 52 years old. My Grandmother Eva Moran was a teacher in Hundred for many years. She married James Moran and had two sons, James Jr, now dead and the younger son Raymond D. my dad now 78. My dad married Elizabeth Louise yeater, the youngest daughter of Rachel and Bill Yeater. Grandad Bill died in the year of my birth or at least around that time...1956. Grandma Yeater raised 5 kids. Leo, my uncle, now long dead of cancer was the only boy. He and my dad were best friends... Leo lived in Hundred and Dad was raised 'on the hill' between Burton and Hundred. Grandma Yeater was a seamstress for the town of Hundred. She kept care over her oldest daughter, Willa, who was crippled by polio at the age of 3 and stopped developing mentally. Her arms and legs were crippled as well...but she knew a few names and could fed herself. I used to shop at Bell's market as a child. I was told my daddy Bill owned the hardware store where Leo and my Mom, Louise would help out with work. It was through Leo that my dad met my mom. Comments:	Yesterday, 4 AUG 07, I attended the Descendants of Col. Morgan Morgan 100th Reunion held at Prickett's Fort in Fairmont. They planned on maybe 100 people. There were 500+ in attendence in the sweltering heat. Col. Morgan Morgan was the first white settler in what is now West Virginia. A son of his, Zackquill, founded Morgantown,VA(WV). My wife Patricia and daughter Dakota Shyann are descendants of Zackquills' brother David Morgan, the Indian Fighter. Zackquill had a son Levi, his monument stands in front of Wetzel County Court House in New Martinsville. Morgan Morgan was born in Wales in 1688, died near Bunker Hill, WV, 1766. Patricia has been to the Morgan cabin. David the Indian fighter had a grandson called Paddy Mod who built a mill on the creek in Porters Falls, Wetzel Co. Paddy Mods' brother Aaron is buried in a small grown up cemetery near Slim Chance Hill by the RR. The one interesting thing I saw that day was during the auction. A man named French Morgan wrote a book called " A History and Genealogy of the Family of Col. Morgan Morgan the First White Settler of the State of West Virginia" in 1950. It was printed by Mrs. Virginia Tuttle of New Martinsville,WV in 1966. This book is no longer in print and is prized among Morgans. One sold for $3,100! A surpise guest was the Moutaineer, WVU mascot, which showed the 500+ that the reason we West Virginian's are Always Free is because of men like Col. Morgan Morgan.

Comments:	The June 27,2007 Wetzel Chronicle had a photo of a water tank on Owls Head hill by Jacksonburg.It listed Owls Head as being 1,100 feet above sea level.Topographic maps of Wetzel Co. list it as being 1,476 feet above sea level. But... the maps also have the Honsocker Knob near Hundred as being 1,652 feet above sea level.Back in the 1980s I called a land surveyor who had a farm in the Big Run area with rows of walnut trees. I asked him what was the highest point in Wetzel Co., he told me it was Honsocker Knob near Hundred and Saint Cloud.In the 1990s another land surveyor told me the same thing,Honsocker Knob. So, is it Owls Head or Honsocker Knob?

Comments:	I have a three quarter rope bed (from my father's side of the family.) great great aunties log cabin in Burton...the Elihu Lemley family, son was John S. Lemeley. I am trying to find out more about the bed. I have photos of the aunties in front of the cabin, and later photos of the land where it was located, and the home they lived in later into the 1940's.I also have a certificate from "The Department of Free Schools, Wetzel County West Virginia" dated 1883, to my great grandfather, John S. Lemely. My mother was also born in West Virginia on Spruce Mountain. Her father was a coal miner there. His name was Leo Corrigan. Is there anyone I could contact about the location of the farm/log cabin in Burton, and anything about this bed which has pansies painted in rows all over it? The pegs are hand carved and I was told that cabin was built in the 1840's. Is that possible? Thanks for your help. I've not been down to WV in some year and am planning a visit this summer (hopefully). I'm particularly interested in the Proctor Creek area. In 1987 a Mr. Olin Hall took my father and I to the site of the old A.T. Fair house and the grist mill. Only parts of the building foundations were still visible. It must have been before I was born in 1931. I also enjoyed the history of Reader, and the old pictures. My grandfather was J.D. Wayne. My parents are buried in the Cochran Cemetery, so I liked the list of people who are buried there. My mother died after 1978, so her name is not listed on the registry. My father and I hiked up that mountain many times to the cemetary at the top where the school used to be. He has passed on in 1996, but 2 yrs. ago I hiked back up there. Comments:	My parents, now deceased, always indicated that we were direct descendants of Lewis Wetzel. I may have seen that in a genealogy record when I was quite young, but I don't have that record. I do have a book written about Lewis which I am sure is not that unique. My father's name was Miles T. and his father, my grandfather, was Milton. My father was born in I905 in Old Zionsville, Penna. If you have records that would identify these names on Lewis's genealogy, I would love receiving some communique. I enjoyed viewing your site.
