I am connected with the Helmer only in that a daughter of my aunt Issie Black Dodd married Floyd Helmer, and I know the three daughters of that family.
My connection is Old Salem Cemetery, which I am going to get designated a Texas Historic Cemetery, and I hope have title of Salem transferred to a Cemetery Association, and then begin to clean and fence it.

Hello,
My name is Terri Helmer Woodside. I have just begun researching my Father's family (Paul Joseph Helmer). That is how I came across your website. It does not appear that we are related to your 'Helmer' family, but if anyone does have any information on my Helmer branch I would appreciate hearing from you.
So far, I have been able to trace back to Joann Gerd Heinrich Helmer, born-09NOV1796 in Lorup, Germany, married Maria Franzisca Korte in 1814 #she died 26JUL1873 in Lorup#. Assume their son, Joann Heinrich Helmer, born 1823 in Lorup, Germany, married Anna Berens, born 03May1827, on 05MAY1851, he died 17NOV1883 in Lorup, Germany.
The next family I could locate was possibly their son, Bernard Joseph Helmer Sr, born 08MAR1861 in Lorup and died on 13OCT1943 in Covington, KY. He married his first wife Marie Stahl, born-22JAN1857 in Saarland, in 1880, she died 08SEP1901 in Covington, KY. Unable to locate when they migrated from Lorup, Germany to Covington, KY. Bernard married his second wife, Euphemena Wessling, born-30OCT1864 in Saarland, in 1903, she died 22NOV1920 in Covington, KY. Think Bernard and Marie's son Bernard Jr, born 05NOV1884 is their son. Our family tree is easy from that point. Bernard Jr. was my great-grandfather.
If anyone has any information, would appreciate your help.
Thanks... Terri Helmer Woodside

Hi Debbie: How surprised I was to have my daughter Michelle send this to me--"Check Out The Helmer Family" web site. A friend of mine had told me something about it sometime ago, I pulled it up, but could not view the pictures, as she did. She said there were pictures of Charles, Dennis & me (Judy) William, Shirley and etc. I had wanted to get hold of you to see if you could help guide me through it, but one thing led to another, and I never did. Tonight Michelle found this, so I had to try it. I have known through the years you had really been working on it, and boy have you. What a great wonderful job you have done. You must be so proud of yourself. I know the rest of the family is. I scrolled through some of the stuff and saw the message your mother wrote in there to the Charles Helmer Family---really touched my heart. I would love to help you in anway that I could with me and our family, on children, marriages, dates and etc. Please let me hear from you. Again, what a wonderful well done job you have done. Thank you from the Charles Helmer Family. Sincerely, Judy Helmer

Audrey, moved to Detroit lat in the '20s and marrited a Garety (not sure of spelling) and I am in contact with that family. Brothers Mike, William, Gregory and my father Basil were all vets of first World war. Mike died in 60s as did Greg. William died in Hospital for mentaly ill, don't know when. He was shell shocked. Greg was wounded by bayonet. Mike seemed to have survived ww1 intact and worked at Coca cola co in St. Louis. my father died of gas effects of ww1 on April 26, 1936. Hi,
I'm an English Helmer, and therefore probably not related to any of you lot, my branch of the family has lived in South Devon England since at least 1580 At that time there were only 3 families of that name in the UK. There is a family story that the family is of Viking decent, ( the Vikings came here a good 1000 years ago, who knows )
Anyway, keep up this healthy self obsession, I know I will.

Hello Debbi, your cousin Katherine here. Lately I've been trying to get more information on our cousin, Wilson Anderson, who was murdered 1874 by William "Bill" Longley. Wilson should be on the 1870 census somewhere, but I can't find him. His parents, Henry and Caroline Willingham Anderson, are on 1870 Lee Co. census, but Wilson is not with them; Wilson should have been 17 or 18 at that time based on his age of 7 on the 1860 census with his parents in Lee Co. Also, who did Wilson marry? In the History of Lee Co., it says that Wilson's wife and two children were at the hanging of Bill Longley in Giddings. If you find anything, please let me know. Hope all is well with you. Thanks, Katherine

If anyone is interested in creating a "Helmer Signatures" page for his family, he may contact me and I can send a paper copy of the names and signatures.
The first man, Martini Helmer, could not sign his name, but he consistently used the mark that looks like a figure-8 lying on its side. The second man on the list, Antoni Helmer, died in 1760. I did not have the exact date of his death when I made this page.
The records of the Catholic Church in Eschbach, Bas-Rhin, France started in 1694. Through the 1700s these records of baptisms, marriages and deaths were recorded in Latin. You may note a Latin spelling to some of the given names. In the 1800s the vital records were recorded at the town hall and written in French.
The surname HELMER has had a number of spelling variations in the Eschbach records. I have seen the named spelled Hollmair, Helmair, Hellmer, Hellmar and Helmer. In the late 1600s and early 1700s the surnames had "in" added to the end of the name. Eventually "in" appeared at the end of women's maiden names only. That practice was dropped later in the 1700s.

I am searching for the siblings and parents of Archibald C. Willingham of my and Deb's family. The earliest record found on Archibald is the 1805 Columbia Co., GA tax list[copy]. In Columbia Co., GA, John Greene Willingham witnessed the purchase in 1808 and the sale in 1811 of land by Archibald [copy of both]. John Greene Willingham is associated with Elizabeth Willingham who already owned 150 acres in Columbia Co., GA in 1806 when she purchased an additional 100 acres [plat in copy]. Who is this Elizabeth Willingham? Was she a widow? Good job on your web site, Deb. Cousin Katherine

The HELMERs were Austrian. They immigrated to Alsace near the end or following the Thirty Years War. They initially went to Hagenau but (perhaps)following its destruction by King Louis (France) moved on to Eschbach. HELMERs live today in Eschbach, a beautiful small village several Kilometers NW of Hagenau. Eschbach is more than a wide spot in the road. Alsace was controlled by the Austrian Emperor before the 30 Years war but was ceded to Louis with the Treaty (of Westphalia?).
