I am looking for an aunt of my grandfather. Her name was Nellie Blust, and my grandfather was Ralph Hicken. His father was Benjamin Franklin Hicken and his mother was Sarah Elizabeth Thompson. This aunt, Nellie, owned a hotel in Ravenna, Nebraska. I don't know is Nellie was a sister of Elizabeth or of Benjamin, or maybe a sister-in-law. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mathias Blust and Katrina Buhler were my mother's paternal grandparents. He was from Freiburg, Germany, and she, I believe, from Basel, Switzerland. They settled in Oneida County, NY. George Blust, one of their sons, was my grandfather. They are buried in the Olden Barneveld Cemetery on the Mapledale Road in Barneveld, NY.

Interesting to read about another Blust family history. I know my great grandparents immigrated from the Germany area.
There has been alot of research done by a distant relative.
There was a Blust family reunion in Kewanee Illinois in the year 2006 (I think). I was one of only two attendees with the last name Blust in attendance.

Anthony Blust was my mom's great grandfather. I was glad to find your site, because we didn't have any information past Anthony's name (George's son).
Anthony's daughter Anna married Joseph Dibling from Hamler, Ohio, she and two of their children died from scarlet fever in the year 1900. Joseph's second marriage was to Magdalena (Anna's sister) in 1904, they had 10 children, one of whom was my grandmother Gert Dibling Britenriker.

Hello! I new at researching genealogy, and the amount of information I've come across regarding the name Blust is a bit overwhelming! I thought it was a very uncommon name, but there seems to be a lot of us.
I believe Matthias (sometimes spelled Mathias with 1 "t") married Katharina (or Katherine) Buehler in Germany either on 26/05/1864 or 20/07/1865. They had 1 daughter, Christina C, in Germany on 19/06/1867, and then must have emigrated to the US, because on 31/10/1869, William (or Wilhelm F) was born in the US. They had 8 more children born in the US, including my grandfather, Fredrick (or Frederick), born 1882. On the 1880 US Census, Matthias is listed as "Madison" Blust! My grandfather Fredrick married Christiana O'Hagen (born in Ireland c1885), and they had 5 children, including my father Matthias Raymond Blust (1914-1993). I haven't been able to confirm Matthias and Katharina's date of marriage, nor can I find when they emigrated to the US (although it would have to be between June 1867 and Oct 1869, based on the birth dates of Christina and William). I did come up with the name Christine Blust as the mother of my great-grandfather Matthias Blust, but I've lost track of where I came across that name. Matthias and Katharina settled in central New York State, and I believe the majority of their offspring stayed in Central NY, including my grandfather Fredrick and my father Matthias.
Anyway, I think I'm very distantly related to the Blusts in Ohio, probably going all the way back to Baden, Germany! I've plowed through a lot of names and records, and I keep paying out to different sites for monthly/yearly memberships, but I'm not getting as far as I had hoped. It's great to see that other people are researching our ancestry, and if any of what I've written is of help to someone, that would be great!

she is from Hertzergdom, Baden, Germany. Another says Berne, Switz. which could have been their starting point to America. She went by Mary. Her mother's name was Anna M. Rist b ca 1831 Switz. Family story says that Anna M. had a child (Mary) by the family groom, name of BLUEST. Her family sent Anna to live with her brothers in America around 1857. They were said to be tailors. Paul Rist, 30, tailor, 1850 OH census is living with Peter Ashleyman family in Monroe County. Anna married Adam Riggenbach and had more children. They lived in and around Sardis, Monroe Co, OH and New Martinsville, WV ... both areas very close to PA. Mary went by Riggenbach, her step-father's name. But her marriage certificate says REIST. Any help would be appreciated.

My family came to the US through the port of New Orleans,La in 1853. As far as I know we are not closely related to other Blusts who came in at other ports. I do not know but I suspect that my family came from the French side of the Rhine River because of their choice of New Orleans. That is why I was interested in the fact that your relatives came from France.
You may already know the name, but Robert Blust of the University of Hawaii-Manoa is writing a book on the Blust family. If you don't already know of Robert his e-mail address is blust@hawaii.edu He is very knowledgeable on the Blust family geneology.

You have her place of birth as Tiffin, Ohio but I believe that she was born in the Cleveland area. Her mother was a twin, Iva and Ina were twin sisters.
