I have always been proud of my Italian heritage. My father's parents were from Barafranca, Enna, Sicily. My mother's father was from Salaparuta, Trapani, Sicily and her mother was from Volturara Irpina, Avellino, Italy. I wish they would have talked more about their experiences in Italy. Now I can only make educated guesses based on the history I read. I think I had romanticized their life in Italy. The places they lived are so beautiful I wondered why they left. Now I think I have an idea about why they left. Some day I'm going to go to the towns where they lived. I hope I will be able to find family members who still live in Sicily.

I am trying to find anyone with these names they are the family names of my mothers parents and grandparents. My grandfather was Andrea Intravaia born on June 29,1889 and his parents were Sam or Salvatore Intravaia and Bena or Benedetta Giacone. Andrea and his father came to the United States in 1904 or 1905 Andrea stayed and his father return to Palermo and remarried and had three daughters, Benedetta, Guiseppino and Maria one was suppose to be a nun. One had a daughter named Laura who married a Chiara and had two sons named Salvatore and Giovommi. The last letters that I have form Palermo was in December of 1958. The person who translated the letters pasted away and my grandmother lost all contact with my grandparents family. All I am looking for is to see if anyone in my family is still alive and if I could just get any information on my family. Salvatore or Sam Intravaia was suppose to have owned a vinyard or something I don't want anything but to know them. My grandmother was named Dominicia Lobocciaro who was born in Mussemelio? on April 16m 1896 and her parents were Salvatore Lobocciaro and Franciosia Minnio who had a sister named Benadita who married a Bastista Ferraro. Andrea and Dominicia had 13 children and there is only 5 left. My mother passed away in 1983 and I have been trying to trace my family ever since. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

My main line in Petralia is MIGLIORE. Domenico Migliore from Castellana married Angela DiMartino from Polizzi Generosa. He came alone to the US about 1901 to get established, but was killed in an accident. I have no idea where or when this happened. Angela then took her children back to Polizzi, where she died a few years later. This left the 2 reaining children as orphans. Lucia was my husband's grandmother. Her sister who is a major brick wall for me was Francesca Paola Migliore. Caterina Geraci was married to Domenico's brother Emiddio. Tied into the Migliore line I also have RIOTTO, SCELFO & CUCCIA
From Polizzi Generosa I have my main line of RUBÉ / RUBBE along with PASTA and DIMARTINO. If anyone has a connection to any of these names, I'd love to hear from you.

Name: Michael Bacarella <garibaldiguard@hotmail.com> Date: 2000-10-04 Surnames I am researching Those who are the descendants of the veterans of the war with Tripoli 1801-1805. Comments:
Hello:
May 14, 2001 will mark an important date for Sicilian Americans.
For it was on that date 199 years ago that the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies allied itself with a young United States to fight a naval war
against the marauding, slave taking, pirates of the Barabary powers.
Sicily prooved to be a generous ally by suppling men, munitions, and ships to attack the fortress port town of Tripoli.
Sicilian and American marines and sailors worked together to overcome their common foe, and did defeat them in 1805.
As important as that alliance was it may not measure up to the Sicilian American alliance that will celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2001. We of Sicilian ancestory must look a little deeper into this wonderful history. This is so important that I want to share the information that I have gathered. It was this event in 1801 that began the mass migration of the Italian people to America. Thousands of Sicilian and Neapolitans came to this country predating the Civil War and their envolvement in the making of America begins here.
Email me at garibaldiguard@hotmail.com to share information.
Thanks,
Mike Bacarella
