Hi, Cuz! I only know my grandfather "Papa Charles is buried in Alvord, Tx. He had about seven first names. My dad, Carlos Okla Henderson moved from Texas as a child of thirteen. There they settled in Giles County, Tenn. I often heard my dad speak of our Scotch-Irish ancestry and a cousin of mine researched our family back to seven brothers that crossed from southeast Ireland on the same boat (rare they would do that). In an idle moment, I put my name into Google (as one does) and up came your site!
I was interested to see that Samuel Colville and Mary Henderson produced a child, John Colville in 1873, as my name is John Colville Henderson. Our Henderson line goes straight back into the mists of time in north-east Scotland (Caithness), where they were generations of deep-sea fishermen (the wind blew them all the way to Norway and, when they had finished fishing, it blew them all the way back - eat your heart out "Perfect Storm"!). The clan was descended from the Gunn clan (and originally of Viking descent). My grandfather, John Henderson, was criticised by his mother for wanting to marry "a southerner" - my grandmother from Aberdeen (look at a map of Scotland to see the joke)! The Colville side is descended (through my paternal grandmother, Edith Colville) from Marie de Guise, the mother of Mary Queen of Scots, in the 16th century. There is a town in Normandy (France) called Colville de Montgomerie, from where Field Marshall Montgomery of WW2 fame is also descended.
Don't you agree that the older one gets, the more fascinating history becomes (especially one's own family!)? I admire the hard work and dedication that has clearly gone into this site. Well done!

I ran into a Doty in Los Angeles before moving to Utah last year and she had the same name as my great grandmother. She was about the same age as myself and I asked her about her heritage. She knew she was named after her great grandmother. So that got me to thinking and looking on the web to see what I could find about how we are related.
I'll keep this as a place to visit periodically.

Also, it looks like dad's brother Mark Lilley provided much of the data on the Lilley's.
From what my mother and father tell me, both the Stewart family (my fathers mother) and the Verrell family (my mothers family) are researched to the same degree as you have on your web page.

I'm very Interested in the History of the Henderson Clan
I have been able to trace my family tree as far back as 1820.
My ancesters lived in the "Borders" area of Scotland.
My Grandfather Andrew Henderson, 1880-1969, came to Canada
in 1905.
Unfortunately information on the "Border Henderson's" is somewhat confusing as to what their origins were.
My Granfather always said that we were part of the Highland
Clans, but, the Highland Henderson's lived mainly in the
Caithness area and did not imigrate as far south as the Borders.
Most of the Henderson's that I have met through out the years are either originaly from Austrailia and imigrated to the States or are from the Maritimes, Nova Scotia, and live in Canada.
Its quite the puzzle.

Your Doty line appears to match in large part to information that I have. I'm descended from William Martin Doughty and his Shoshone Wife Mary "Pigeon". He was one of the sons of John Doughty and Elizabeth McMillan, who I believe match your John Doty and Elizabeth Unknown.
Incidentally, he was an early Oregon pioneer and was one of a small group of men who founded the government here in Oregon in the early 1800s. His sister Nancy (who married Samuel Laughlin) moved to Oregon during that time and died shortly thereafter.

Iam looking for a leonard?Len, LR Leonard R Henderson, he died in Blossom TX, he has a brother whos name is Mortimer, who married a Callie, they had Arthur w, he married a Allie Jones, they had a James Monroe, i can not find any other info on this family. LR or Len Henderson was married to a Nettie Arnold Pierson, in TX they had my mother, but Len and Nettie divorced, and Nettie would not speak of Len at all to my mother, so my mother knew very little of her family. She is dead now we lost her this last Dec 25th. But she knew i was on the track of her father.
