I am descended from Johann Martin Rittmeier - born 28 Nov 1808, Regiments 35 Kur 6 20, Brandenburg Stadt, Brandenburg. His father and grandfather were with this regiments of fuseliers, too. His grandson received the Iron Cross during the Franco-Prussian War. I also descend from Johann Martin Schirrmacher - born 02 Mar 1865, probably in the Mariendorf section of Berlin. His brother was August Frederick Schirrmacher - born 13 Apr 1863, and a brother Albert was born in 1868. I am also a descendant of Gustav Gottlieb Michaelis - born 27 Jun 1813, Magdeburg, and Henrietta Luise Lobeck, who had a very educated family in Berlin. He was a professor at Berlin University and developed a form of short-hand writing. His daughters were very educated, too, with one becoming quite beloved in Portugal.

Cannot determine exact spelling of ancestors name. It ended up Britshart by 1900. Could be Preickschat, Preitschart, Breitschat, or other variations. Family legend says Edward Hiram Britshart was born in Berlin in 1842. I know nothing else about him.

Richard Bernhard Lemke born in Mewe, West Prussia in 1856 was the youngest of 6 children, father, Heinrich, mother, Emilie (Fuhr). Would love to find relations from this family. Richard’s siblings: Augusta Emilie (b.1842), Rudolf Herman (b.1843), Willimena Henrette Amaila (b.1845), Rudolf Albert (b.1847), Helene Florntine (b.1850). Richard served in the Prussian army, most likely, during the Franco-Prussian War, afterwards he became a police officer in Berlin. He had 2 children from his first marriage Rosa and Walter, before he married my great-grandmother Louise Heerwagen (nee Czarnetzki) from Danzig.

Paul Meissner is my grandfather. He was born in Berlin on 18 July 1897 and died in Berlin (West) on 11 July 1957. His father & mother were: Fredrich Gottleib Karl Meissner and Emilie Friderike Dorthay Ullrich. Paul Meissner was married to Berta Marie Martha Steinberg. She was born in Berlin on 13 Aug 1881 and died in Berlin (West) in 1970. They had one daughter (my mother): Gerda marie Erika Meissner. She was born in Berlin on 31 Dec 1906 and died in Berlin (West) on 31 Dec 1983. Gerda married Heinrich Schmidt on 13 Apr 1933 in Berlin. He died in Berlin (West) in 1982.

Franz Becker worked in Konigsberg East Prussia post office born Nov. 1889.
Anna Marie Tichelmann Becker born Sept. 1889 Konigsberg we assume. They were married in Prussia and had first Child my grandmother Freda Becker Dennis in Sept. 11,1910.
Freda had 2 bro. Kurt and Erich.
After fleeing Konigsberg in late January of 1945 on ship Gefluchett? they stayed in Hamburg with relatives BASTERT then moving on to Berlin. Franz Becker then worked for post office there.

It is believed that he is a direct member of my Geissler family here in Chicago.
I have contacted the German Consulate office here in Chicago several times but have never received any type of reply.

Mathelda Lo Peno married Andrew Gottlieb Von Schwartzwalder 1882. Her son said she was born 10 miles east of Berlin. The Schwartzwalds settled in Minnesota.

This is the Spelling of our Name (SWITZLER) this could of been a change after they arrived in the Americas, But acccording to my family this is how it was spelled. Possibities are it started with a Z or maybe an Sch. They could of landed in PA or Straight to VA.The first documentation I find are tax lists in 1810 in VA. and a marriage in 1810 also, To a Gertrude Charity Denig in VA and she came from PA. The last contact through mail was from my grandmother's sister.
My grandmother was the youngest of 10 children.
Her Uncle William and Aunt Bertha Krueger had them brought over to the USA in 1884. Uncle William and Aunt Bertha Krueger were married in Germany and became naturalized citizens in 1867.
My grandmother and her brother Alfred Krueger were sent to the USA by their Aunt and Uncle (Krueger) to live with them in Milwaukee Wisconsin.
Louise Anna Krueger born: March 31, 1882 (Stettin/Berlin?)
I know that my mother was corresponding with her cousin who had a business in Berlin in 1946.
If anyone can direct me to resources in Berlin for names, addresses. I can type a letter in German to Rossig or Krueger surnames.

I am told that Gertrude von Grasser (sp ?) was the daughter of the director of the Berlin Imperial Orchestra in the late 1800s. She came to the US around 1900. She was born September 19, abt 1884. She refused to return and married a Mr. Greyhein (sp) also from Germany in Cincinnati OH and had three sons, Arno, Otto, and Curtis. Mr. Greyhein died in a boating accident abt 1912 and the sons were placed in adoption. Curtis stayed with Gertrude and eventually ended up in Kansas City MO. I can’t seem to find anything before 1920 where Gertrude had married and shows up in the census as Gertrude Farrow. This is a lot but thought maybe more was better than not enough. Two nephews came to St. Louis, MO about 1901, they were Hans and Traugott. There was a cousin, Johann Friedrich ALBRECHT, b. 1868 (who remained in Germany, as far as I know, and an uncle Wilhelm who was supposedly a professor at Berlin Univ. Just left a message, would like to add to it. Charles Zimmerman, known as Carl, was my gg-grandfather. I am told he was from Berlin. He was the son of a jewelryman. As a young man her trained horses for a wealthy horseman, so I am told. He married in Germany and had one son, Wilhellm, (my greatgrandfather). He and his wife and young son immigrated to the USA about 1861. Wilhelm (William) was supposedly about 2 yrs old. They landed in New York. His wife died a few months after arrival. (An obituary for William says that his mother died on the boat coming over here). I am trying the find the name of his first wife and trying to find his ancestor line in Germany. Carl went to Illinois and married an Elizabeth Greenawald. They had more children and moved on to Nebraska in 1878 and settled in Lancaster County, Nebraska where they remained until they died. If anyone knows of this family I would be most grateful for any information. Thank you.

My grandparents Paul & Else Thiele Kurth lived in Berlin around 1908 with their 4 sons, Paul, Otto, Max and Karl. They immigrated to San Antonio, TX, in 1909 along with my great-grandparents, Carl & Bertha Werbst Thiele, their daughter Louise and another grandson, Otto Thiele. Another son, Richard Thiele, also came and eventually moved to New York City. The family was originally from Toreglo, but I don't know which one - there are 3 shown on the German map. Anyway, I'm looking for any information on any of these names. My grandmother's other brothers, Max and Otto, did not immigrate to the US, but did spend a number of years in Africa beforing returning to Germany around WWII. I would like to find out when my great,great grandfather was married. He married Therese Otto as for as we know but I cannot find anything on when they married. Ferdinand Heydemann is my 2nd great grandfather. He married a Tennessee girl and had two daughters, Ann and Flora in 1853 and 1855. He was murdered in 1856 in Tennessee. He managed a store and bought land.
He may have had a relative named Georg Fridric Heydemann who
was married to Mathilde Dornfeldt born 1825, and they had a daughter Clara, born about 1849 in Berlin. We have pics of this family, and possibly one of Ferdinand. Not sure if the latter one is Ferdinand.

I have been searching for the past few years and each time I think I'm close---it never works out. As far as I know the only person I know for sure who migrated was my mother; she went to Canada then to Nevis and died in 1983. I'm in the process of getting her death certificate from Nevis at this time. My Grandmother, who raised me, died in the late 70's but I was in the USA and didn't get any info about her death. Her name was Katherine Wischke Hahn and she lived in Berlin most of her life. I have also not been able to find out anything about my grandfather Richard Hahn. I was born in Berlin,1941, and lived there with my grandmother until I met my mother in Canada in the 50's. I then joined the American Army and spent the next 22 years traveling Europe and the US in the Army. I'm looking for any site you can point me to that will help me in my quest. My grandmother had told me, at one time, that I owned a small piece of property in East Berlin (we moved to the West befor the Wall went up) I'm sure there have been many lost records and I don't think I would be able to find the property now, but I would just like to know something more about my family and what happened to them after I joined my mother in Canada. One other thing; I recently saw a History channel documentary about the Lebensborn Foundation. Since I never knew my father ( my mother never married him and he supposedly died at the Russian front ) I would like some place to look for any information about this subject. My mother did leave me in an orphanage when I was born and for a time after; grandma came and took me home with her and I stayed with her until I went to Canada. When I was in the U.S. Army in 1963, I was stationed in Berlin. Unfortunately I didn't have a lick of genealogical sense - probably didn't even know the meaning of the word. However, I remember one very specific day when I walked around the corner of a street where I had never been before, I had the immediate sensation that I had been there before. Call me whacko, but I think it may have been a genetic link with my history. My GGGrandfather was Johan Friedrich Hellwig, born in 1805. He and his wife, Caroline (Drews) immigrated to the U.S. in 1868. They had three children who also immigrated, I believe at the same time. Heinrich Hellwig - born in 1835 and married Wilhelmine Kieso, Ferdinand Hellwig born in 1855 - married Marie Pauline Jaekel, and Caroline Hellwig born in 1843 -married Albert Schlader or Scheider - spelling unknown. They immigrated to Wisconsin and began farming near Coon Valley in the township of Hamburg. I see Johan, Heinrich, and Caroline listed in the 1870 census for Wisconsin but not before then, which makes sense if they arrived in 1868. Also, I don't see Ferdinand listed (he would have been 15 years old then - he could have been working in the city or at another farm at the time). I have been told that Johan came from somewhere in northern Germany (it only indicates Prussia in the census). I have heard from family sources long ago that he came from Oldenburg, Hamburg, or Holstein - nothing specific (could be Berlin). So my search is broad and wide. He is not listed in the Germans to America volumes. He is not listed on any of the hundreds of ships manifests I have searched. Alas, I will continue my search as a labor of love. I have no proof that Johan Friedrich actually came from Berlin, or ever visited there, but my instincts says there is a link.

I am searching for a Family Tree of my Grandfather Konrad Paulus Danzer, born 1908 in Burgfarrnbach, a little suburb of Fuerth, Germany. I am trying to find some information on my grandparents and my father. I heard my grandfather was from the Carpathian Mountains and my grandmother was from Nuremburg. I am searching for information regarding my grandfather Georg Baller geb. mai 4, 1887 in Berlin, my great grandfather Albert Heinrich Baller ( aka Heinrich Albert) geb 1863 in Silesen Kreis Belgard in Pommern, I am not certain when he moved to Berlin. I believe that Alberts parents August and Augustine Baller may have moved to Berlin at about the same time. I have found Georgs' birth records at the Berlin Mittestadt archives. I know that they later moved to the Rixdorf / Neukolln area, where I believe that August spent the rest of his life.
August and Augustine had the following children: Herman, Albert (Heinrich), Emilie, Alwine, Anne, Fritz and Otto. August was a factory worker.
Herman married Joanna Treichle and emigrated to the US probably prior to 1895
Albert is my great grandfather, he married Ottilie Schorsch (possibly while in Berlin), around 1880 - 1885
Emilie remained in Berlin and married Emil Schindler, a bookkeeper
Alwine I know nothing about
Anne married Johann Plack, they lived in Britz, just South of Nuekolln where they opened a Bakery
Fritz was a factory worker and lived near his father in Neukolln - they possibly worked in the same factory
Otto married Anna Koch, they had children but I dont know the number or sex. He died sometime around 1912-1916

The above 2 people were my grandparents. I would like to find my relations. My grandparents were connected with the circus. They were trick riders. My granmother was born on the 29/9/1896 in Sagan/Schlesien and was one of seven childre. Lily, Else, Albert, Schenk, Selma and one unknown. Selma married a person called Blumenfeld and they had a daughter called Edith. She married Fritz Wegener who was a director/agent of Circus Hagenbeck in Hamburg/Stelling. My grandfather was born on the 5/6/1888 in Rothehutte/Harz and resided in Berlin. They were divorced in Berlin on the 7/8/1933. They had two childre. Heinrich Albert Schwarz and Hans Adolf Schwarz. Both brothers migrated to Australia in the 1950's. The only other ancestor that I know of was Albert Reinsch, forn on the 28/6/1840 and died on the 10/7/1888. He was a director for artistic people. I would appreciated any information to help with our family tree.

Son Hugo Theodor b 1867-1939 merchant Berlin-Charlottenberg.
daughter Berta b. abt 1869 was living in Bohemia in the 1920's according to Rudolph's passport. Can not make out her married name.
We did have a cousin Hildegard Oehmig living in west Berlin in the 1940's. Believe she was a nurse, possible at a children's home.In 1952 she was living at Charlottenberg 5, Pulston 4-14 West Berlin.She had a young woman write letters to us for her.
Daughter Charlotte married 24 March 1895 in Berlin a man named RAEMISCH.

I am looking for members of the Grosgebauer/Grossgebauer family anywhere in Germany. My Grandfather came to the USA in 1893 from Selsta? some of the people changed their name by deletting the second S in the name but I'm sure some where back there it all had the double S. Most of my known relatives went to North Dakota and became farmers. However their are a group here in Texas that may have some connection but I can't find it.

My great grandfather emigrated from Hamburg, Germany on September 5, 1880 and arrived in New York, USA Sept.21, 1880. His last residence was given as Berlin, if this is the same person. He was born Sept. 29,1865 and his parents were Wilhelm and Martha Geborne (Schneider)Volker. IN 1879 a John Mayrer arrived in the United States, where he settled in Montogmery County, Dayton, Ohio , I believe this man to be Martin's brother as he was only two years older than him, They were the only family in the counties with the spelling of theie name as Mayrer to this day in 2001. Iwas hoping maybe someone new of this Mayrer line . Martin married twice I believe as his first wife died before leaving Germany and he had a young son named Frank Mayrer who was born 21 August 1879. Before coming to America Martin married a woman of the name of Matildia Dusch, her parents were Bernard Dusch and Hellen Gris.

I have A copy of a German newspaper cutting dated 24th January
1962 Which tells the story of Marie Sophie Michel mother of
Martin Haupt.
She was the wet nurse of Friedrich II. She lived in
Zehlendorf. My family tree on the Haupt side shows that my
branch of the family all come from Zehlendorf, Prussia. My
Great Great Grand Father was August (Johann? can't read the
writing too well) Haupt born Zehlendorf 1830. His Father was
Carl Wilhelm. I would love to know if any of this connects. I
