Comments:
Am trying to find the ancestors of Morgan David and am mised up on several different accounts of the linage. Was Maude Morgan the mother of Morgan and such? Also would love to learn more about Llandwitt-Fardre where I believe Morgan was born instead of the Lantwidvoyrde which most researchers say. Also would like to know more about the Rees family for I know a Jane Rees stayed in Wales (abt 1720). Also Charlotte Howell, Morgans wife, (1660-1741) and Jane Miles family. She married David David (Davis)grandson of Morgan David (1720-1772)

My immigrant ancestor (from Wales to US) was Hopkin Williams, who was married to Elizabeth Rosser at the Eglwysilan Parish Church, Pontypridd on Dec 25 1863. They immigrated 1867-1872 to Pennsylvania. I have other ancestors from England traced back to 1514 with definite dates and c900 without dates. I have been to Wales 3 times on holiday and like it there very much.

Are you able to help please? some time ago I came across a web site via rootsweb on which an individual had published the transcribed records of a number of Glamorgan cemeteries. The only ones which I can definately say were on the list were Taffs Well Cemetery and St Martins Caerphilly. I found my mother's grave recorded and I believe the transcription was done in 2001 (for Taffs Well)
Despite many searches I have failed to located this site again and I wonder if you are familiar with it and could perhaps provide me with the address.

Thanks,

Hilary

John Elias EVANS married Jane LEWIS in America. They apparently, (as the story goes), met on the ship from Wales, although I don't know the ports.

My family and I are planning to travel to Wales in the summer of 2004, and are anxious to re-establish some links before doing so. My father is almost 88, and has fairly clear memories of his boyhood in Mountain Ash and Laugharne.

I know almost nothing about the Evans and Thomas family. John Henry owned a coal mine in Wales which (according to the family telling) and after it flooded, 3 of his sons left for America (Gwilym, Colwyn, and Henry?). Would love to have any history of the area of Swansea from which they came. John Mark Evans was a pastor for the Anglican church (apparently like the Billy Graham of his time).

Comments:
I am Leroy Llewellyn living near Denver, Colorado USA. David and Sarah Llewellyn are my most distant known ancestors. According to information I got from my grandmother, they married on August 27, 1837 and emigrated to the US in July 1841. They settled in the coal mining region of Pennsylvania ad are buried in Ashland, Pennsylvania. From my branch of their family, all remain in Pennsylvania except for me. My grandfather (also Leroy Llewellyn) died in 1997 and was in the coal mining business all his life. One of David and Sarah's seven children was David R. Llewellyn (born in Pennsylvania in 1847)- my grandfather's grandfather. One of David R. Llewellyn's 13 children, Harry Llewellyn (born in Pennsylvania in 1875) was my grandfather's father.

On the same ship from Wales to America with David and Sarah Llewellyn were David's cousins William Llewellyn and David Llewellyn. The town of Llewellyn, Pennsylvania is named for cousin David.

I'd loe to hear from anyone who could trace my family back farther.

Leroy Llewellyn

Who was your earliest ancestor? (name & year) Thomas Hudgen, born 1620
If they immigrated, to what country & when? 4 grandsons sailed to Kingston Parish in Virginia in 1743
Do you still have known relatives living here? I have no known relatives living in Glamorgan, Wales, or in Liverpool, England
Comments:
Thomas Hudgen, born 1620, was the first family member born outside of Glamorgan and anglicized the original Welsch spelling of "Rhwwttchen" to "Hudgen". Thomas was born in Liverpool but lived a good part of his life in Porthcawl, Wales. His son Robert (born 1660) married Charlotte Lewis (?Lewes) of Glamorgan. Robert was Sherriff in Llandaff, Wales, for a good part of his life. Robert and Charlotte's children (William, born 1701, John, born 1705, Lewis, born 1706, and Robert, born 1710), sailed to Virginia in 1743 and settled in Kingston Parish, which was then part of Gloucester, VA, but became Mathews, VA, around 1791. The majority of Hudgins (originally spelled HUDGEN) in the US are in this vicinity and there are literally thousands of Hudgins in Mathews, VA, today. Kingston Parish still has the Vestry Book from the 1690's and the Parish Register from 1741 and I have been able to obtain the majority of births, deaths, and marriages from this book.

I am still seeking information concerning Charlotte Lewis (1660) from Wales, as well as Anne "Annah" Lewis from Wales who was wife of Robert Hudgen (born 1710).

If they immigrated, to what country & when? Utah, USA, 1856
Do you still have known relatives living here? I would like to know
Comments:
The father of Thomas Davies Giles (b. 1820) was Thomas Giles Davies (b. 1784). Half of the father's children were surnamed Davies and half surnamed Giles. (Gender does not seem to matter. The maiden name of their mother was Davies.) Does anyone know why this might be? Also, Thomas Davies Giles was struck by coal in a pit in 1848 and left blind. He had a wife and childen. How would he have supported them?
His wife, Margaret Thomas (b. 1821), seems to be the only child of John and Ann Thomas of Merthyr Tydfil. Did she leave any relations (cousins, etc.) behind when she emigrated to the USA with her husband and children (she died en route)? Where would I go to find out, if I come to Wales?

Looking for information on my ancestors, things that they did to make a living, historical events taking place during their lives. Any information that would give me an idea about my family that I can find would be great. I was born in England and came to the US when I was two and have never been able to return. My hopes are that one day to go back and visit family members, travel all over the country and research as much information that I can to pass on down to my children. Currently I resided in Wyoming with my husband and children and would love dearly to bring them all back to Wales to show them where their ancestors came from. I feel it's important for them to know all about their past and how they got to where they are today.

William and Mary had maybe six children. John W., Ann, Mary, Phillip, Betsy and Ester. I believe I have a census of them in 1850. They were in Merther Tydfil and William was a miner. All my relatives still live in West Glamorgan. My gransparents passed in the 1980s,however, all my Aunts, Uncle and all my cousins are still living in Wales. I wish I could live there because I miss it so much when I come back to the States. I feel more homesick for Wales than the U.S.A. I get back as soon as possible (money permitting)and someone comes and spends time here every year and we are there if they aren't. I would really want to get my geneology together before time slips by and my family here in the U.S. will not make the connection as to who is who in our vast connection in West Glamorgan. Thank You.
Donna (Edwards)paternal grandfather, (Hughes) maternal grandfather with Mari being my great grandmothers name from Cornwall.

If you can write back or suggest a line I can talk to other Welsh people to connect with.

If they immigrated, to what country & when? Autralia 1923
Do you still have known relatives living here? yes
Comments:
Verrinder Davies family is still a mystery, although I now have copies of her birth certificate and her parents marriage certificate. She spoke of being a cousin to Fred Parry (his fame must have been lost in time) and Ivor Novello. Her christian name is her maternal grandmothers maiden name.

She was an opera singer prior to emmigrating to Australia where she married and had two daughters. (She trained under Calra Novello). She also said one of her brothers was a conductor of a local band but I'm not sure which band.

She was well educated at a girls school from her stories in which she tells of having one of her paintings hung in the foyer.

Two sisters Lilian (married D Semmens)plus family and Dorothy (Dolly)spinster, also emmigrated to Australia. Both have long since died.

Verrinder's (aka Vera) eldest daughter returned to Cardiff after WW2 and in the 1980's, and traced many members of Verrinder's family but all her records were lost in stolen luggage in 1990 after her last visst. She died without putting any of her known facts onto paper. The only name we can recall is a Hope Davies in Cardiff in the 1980's.

Who was your earliest ancestor? (name & year) Miles Morgan
If they immigrated, to what country & when? United States in 1636
Do you still have known relatives living here? Unknown
Comments:
Miles Morgan was born in 1615 in Llandaff, Glamorgan, Wales. In 1636 he sailed from Bristol to Boston with his brothers, John and James.
I believe that Miles was the son of Sir William Morgan, who was born in 1560 and was married in 1606 in Llandaff, G, Wales.
I personally visited Glamorgan in 1950 but have not returned. I'm interested in pursuing the Morgan line.
