Our family has copies of the William Schurman volumes that we received from our grandmother, Leila May Burns Fausel, for a gift in the early '70's. We used to look up our friends to see if we were related to them. None ever were, but we continue to research friends to this day. :-)

My paternal grandmother's maiden name was Duryee. I have traced her family back to Sante parish, Nord provence in France to about 1660 were Simon du Rietz married Adriane Raou. They soon moved to Manhiem, Germany where they lived in a French Hugonaut colony. Here the surname became Durieu(x)Their son Joost married Magdalena Le Fevre there. They then immigrated to New York in 1675. The family then intermarried with Dutch families and the name evolved into Duryee and Duryea.

My father was John B, not John M. He was born in 1880 (PEI)
and died in 1958. My lineage goes back directly to the "original James Woodside" born 1704 in Scotland and his son, James, who emigrated with his family to Prince Edward Island.
My mother was Mary Edith Williams. Her father was John Hubbard Bowden Williams and her mother was Mary Elizabeth Dickey.
My sister, Helen E Woodside was married in 1932. I was married in 1946 in San Francisco.

I have been trying to locate my mothers family. Her mother died when she was 2 years old and all I have to go on is her death certificate. My father's mother was a Duryee. When I traced the line back to northern France, the surname changed to Du Rieux then Durietz. This was in the marriage record of Simon Durietz and Adriane Raou in 1660 or there about. The family was protestant and later moved to Mannheim, Germany where there was a French protestant colony. One son, Jost and his wife Magdalena Le Fevre went to the colony of New York about 1675 and their descendants married into Dutch families. Sound like a familiar story?

Hi, you have forgotten Tilla Durieux, actress from Vienna, later Berlin, born appr. 1881. "The black hair of Tilla Durieux is mentioned in one of Henry Miller's books. She died in Berlin well over 90, wrote her memoirs which I had from the library once. They were in German, though, and I doubt they have been translated.
