Name: Beth Cone <bcone@co.carver.mn.us> Date: 2001-09-06 Earliest ancestor in Berkeley Co Abraham Newkirk/Nieuwkirk What year Abt 1730 They came from Ulster Co, NY Comments:
Abraham (1724-1823) and wife, Keziah Shipman, had son, Tunis Newkirk. Tunis had daughter, Anna, with second wife, Susannah Hay.
Anna was either born in Berkeley County (1802) or upon their move to Fairfield Co, Ohio. I am checking out both
possibilities.
Anna married John Comer in 1818 in Ohio. They had a son, Isaac Newkirk Comer in 1832, born in Ohio.
Isaac migrated to Iowa about 1850, married Maria Healy in 1854. Their son, Henry Comer, is my great grandfather. From Iowa, Henry moved north, first to So. Dak and then to Minnesota.
Wish I could track down ANY info on John Comer. No luck so far. I don't have any next of kin/parents or anything yet, just that he married Anna in 1818 in Ohio.
Name: Earl H. COnrad <conrads4@supernet.com> Date: 2001-07-25 Comments:
I am disappointed that the sheriff and commisioners have ventured into political correctness by failing to sell guns at the public auction next Saturday. "Fall into the hands of thugs?" 20,000 gun laws including a background check. More than likely the guns would fall into some of the hands of the 2.5 million citizens that prevent crimes every year by whipping out the gun they use to even the odds against criminals that don't respect the laws. Better watch that machete and the bat, and don't dare sell any cars. They kill more people than guns do. I hope the voters of the county clean house in the next election. You need some practical realists in office.
