Noticed a postcard of Eastern High School. My mother, Harriet Morrill, graduated from Eastern in 1929 when it was an all female high school. I have the album from her class. She transfered from Bridgewater, MA and her picture never appeared in the yearbook.

I am a former resident of Baltimore, Md. I am interested in a postcard of Belair Market where my grandfather Pietro Ferruggio had a barbar shop across the street on Forest St. He also owned several businesses on that block. They lived at 5002 Harford Road. <br>I will look to see if I have any old postcards. Thank you so much for this wonderful collection. Dolores

I have some souvenier books (pamphlets actually) of the Great Baltimore fire, one large photograph (sepia tone)of qa Baltimore "Parlor Car" with 7 individuals in motorman's uniforms. The name "Mermaid" is lettered across the front. I believe that this was an excursion car on either the Roland Park line or the Gwynn Oak Park line around the turn of the 20th century.

I also have my grandfather's League of American Wheelmen cloth bicycle map of Baltimore and the surrounding area.

None of this material is for sale but I would gladly consent to having copies made if they would be of any use to your project.

I enjoyed looking through all of postcards. I have spoken to Mr. Barnes many times in the past and he has helped me with my genealogy. I have about 250 MD. postcards and about 150 Baltimore postcards in my collections. Many of these I have already scanned in at 300 DPI. I would be willing to share these images. I also have a few Stereoview images of Baltimore which are very hard to find anymore.

Just forgot to say....My Grandparents arrived in Baltimore on 11 March 1887 from Germany. The beergarden was called:
The Harmonie.. I mispelled it before.

They lived at 1008 Eastern Ave at the 1900 Census.

Again, thanks for a great site of my birthplace

I was born in Baltimore. Sept 1931. We moved to the Panama Canal in 1934....so I have no childhood memories of Baltimore. My Grandparents "owned"-operated" the German Hormonie beergarden...on Layfette off of Paca.

I would love to be able to see what that looked like. Anyway I can find something on that?

Thanks....your site was really special and I enjoyed browsing through the files.

To everyone who has visited the web site and made kind comments, I thank you. The credit for the web site work goes to Dr. Gary Ruppert. I am compiling a list of the numbered postcards in the various series published by the Ottenheimers, and in due course it will be posted on this site. If anyone has any additional information on the Ottenheimer company, or can send me the numbers and titles of any postcards in their collection I will be very grateful. I cannot buy all the cards, but I would like to identify as many in the series as possible.

I went to Sacred Heart School in at The blocks of Fleet Street, Conkling Street, Highland Ave. and Foster Ave.
There was a boy in my class named Ruppert. Could he be a relative of yours.
One thing i would like to suggest is locations of some of the objects on the post cards. There is not enough clarity yo read the letters on the post card. I remember some of the places but sometimes not their exact location.
Thank you.

What a wonderful collection and how fortunate we are it is being shared for all to enjoy! I enjoyed reading about the Ottenheimers and the whole presentation. Thank you so much! Love the 19th century pictures too, and being a descendant, I'd love to know the name of the photographer who took the picture of the grocery. Any chance there'll be a site with pictures of beautifully decorated for Christmas department store windows? They would be the icing on the cake!!!

Dr. Gary,
Your newest effort looks very good. I've just skimmed through it. Some of the pics brought back old memories-the old Lexington Market where my grandparents had a "stall", the Homewood campus where I spent my undergraduate years, the Pratt Library where I spent a lot of time, and the old Poly High School building where I attended several BSA functions. Keep up the good work. One question though, when in tarnation do you find time to practice medicine???
