looking for eagleton family as in 1851 census - Southwark - Harriett (nee SELBY?) and her sons John, Frederick, Benjamin (b1833) and William - their father was John EAGLETON who had died by 1851... Frederick and Ben set out for the goldfields of Australia - Fred died at Rockhampton in Queensland and Ben lived and died around Beechworth, Victoria... Ben, in his writings refered to spending time with an uncle in Kent ("who owned some property") and also referred to a Captain Robt. or Robs. HUNTER as being an uncle, involved in shipping at Rockhampton in Queensland...
i'd love to hear from anyone with any information on these folk...

My maiden name is Eggleton and I was just browsing! Don't know a lot of concrete details about my ancestors but a lot of hearsay!
Grandfather was Frederick Francis - probably born about 1895ish somewhere in England (possibly London). My Dad (Donald Lawrence) is the only son and was born in Leeds in 1925 and my 2 brothers have no children. There are 5 of us, one brother is adopted but has taken the name Eggleton. Grandfather Fred was married to Queenie but not sure if this was a nick name. He died in Worthing around 1970. His father (my great grandfather) was reputed to be the illegitimate son of Lord Kitson and a Miss Eggleton and I beleive they had several children (7 or 8). My Dad is still alive and would probably have more details if you are interested. Don't know where Miss Eggleton came from but she is reputed to be descended from brothers from Wales who invented the venetian blind (!)
