Hi, my name is Wendell L. Bomar son of Marshall Wendell Bomar and grandson of Hugh Rueben Bomar. My father and grandfather are both from Paris Tn. and I was born in Ft. Walton Beach, Fl. I have done a little bit of research on the Bomar name and also got stopped at Adam Ritter Bomar in England. from what I read on the internet he may have been a member of parliment in Devonshire and supposedly has a picture of him there. now this was a few years ago and I don't remember what web sight I got this from.
I also traced the name Bomar to the Aaland Islands, a group of islands between Finland and Sweden. there is an old fort there that goes by the name Fort Bomarsund that could have something to do with the Bomar name. I am not sure about that though. There is a waterway the goes by the name Bomar Straits. Thought that was interesting.

Interesting web site. I am working on the VanCleave family.
The earliest link I have is Robert M. VanCleave son of Jack VanCleave and Jennie Thompson. Names are similar to those you have, but I can find no link. In looking at pictures the men look very much like the men in our family. My mother-in-law was a VanCleave and her family were in Paris, Tennessee in Henry County.

Hi! Most of my research is on The Ferguson and Thompson families, but one of my Ferguson ancestors, Elizabeth Ferguson of Lee County, VA., married William Chandler of Halifax County, VA (1850 Lee County, VA Census). They went first to Missouri with the Yeary family and then to Collin County, TX and died there in 1876. One son, Francis Marion Chandler, born 1851, went to Cleburn, Johnson County, and one, William Henry Chandler, Born 1853, to Collin County. Wondering if you have any information as to what happened to them?
Love your site! Pink is my favorite color, too.
Thanks,
June

I am descended from Isaac West who is buried in the Bethlehem Cemetery in Clark Co., Mo. His daughter Leona West md. my grandfather Marcellus C. Sisson.
My father and I both inherited black hair and brown eyes which he said was a West characteristic. The Sissons always had brown hair and beautiful blue eyes.
I am a very experienced genealogist. I have my Sissons traced back for 11 generations, when they came to America ca. 1600's, and am now working on their English roots.
Your website is very lovely, the nicest I have ever seen. I love pink too.
I would like very much to hear from you.

Hi, Donna!
I'm new to this (3 days research so far), but very excited. I believe my Dollar Family ancestors may have migrated from Orange County, North Carolina, to Carroll County, Tenessee, during the late 1820s or 1830s. I do know my great, great grandfather, Martin Dollar, married in Tennessee and moved to St. Francis County Arkansas in the 1840s. He was born in North Carolina in 1821. My theory: Ann Dollar is listed in the 1860 census as a resident of Carroll (born about 1793 in North Carolina), living with Henderson Dollar (born in North Carolina about 1820). I think she might be the mother of Martin.

In your research, have you run across any Dollars? No pun intended. Your site is great; and thanks in advance for any information.

I saw that you were a retired Postal worker and knew we had Chandler's in our families. I retired in 1997 and have had on my list of things to do was trace the family. It has been much harder and the time it took for the information was just not worth it. I can not aford to pay the fees that the sites I have tried charge. Found this site just today. Then saw the USPS and the pink. I like pink too. My Chandler family are from Taylor CO Kentucky. Lebon and Campbellsville. Guy James was my grandfather. He married Ettie Wyatt (a twin) and had 10 childern. I am one of 27 grandchildren and too many additions that I can not keep up with them. I have more information on my Grandmother than grandfaher. Maybe some where in the past the lines were together. You have a site I could read and someone that would let me have a say. Happy New Year. Rita Ann Chandler Richie.

I am very interested in Susan T. Chandler as she was the wife of Joseph Tolbert Ware, married 9 Nov. 1832 in Caswell Co.,NC and moved to Missouri about 1840 with two children Nancy T., born 1835 and John Calvin, born 1837. In 1844 they moved near some of her family in Hollow Rock, Carroll, TN where two more children were born,Martha A., 1846, and Susan E., 1849. John Calvin Ware, born 1837 in Caswell Co., NC. is the great grandfather of my husband and married Elizabeth B. Green in Hollow Rock. We have no more information concerning Susan T. though she may have passed away between 1849, the date of her last daughter's birth and Joseph's marriage to Permelia Dodd 11, Nov. 1853. He and Permelia are listed in the 1880 Census. The Chandler heritage has been lost to John Calvin's large family, He and Elizabeth Green had ten children. Please let me know if you have any information for us as at least three of us are working together on that family. Thank you

I am a descendant of Elijah & Lydia Collins Uptegrove. Their son Nathaniel Frank married (1) Nancy Kee (2)Martha Faulden. Nathaniel Frank and Martha had a son named George W and I found George W in Arkansas around the year 1890. George brought his family from Mississippi in a wagon train around 1884 where they crossed the Mississippi River around the Greenville area. I find them in the counties of Ashley and Drew in Arkansas. George and his wife Eliza Jane Langford/Lankford had children named Lizzi who married Edward High, George, Eugene, and Cora Argusta Uptegrove who married William James McKeever/McKiever in Drew Co., AR in 1900.
The families of Elijah & Lydia Collins Uptegrove and their sons Nathaniel Frank, Elijah Jr., and Elisha, daughters Hannah who married Elisha Pinkston, Lydia Jane who married William Solomon Butler, Susan who married ? Robinson all lived the counties of Carroll, Bedford and Henderson in TN.
I would like to hear from any of the connected families.

Hi Donna,
I came across your site because I am doing research on my Grandmother's family. Her parents are a real mystery. She was born around 1892. By 1900, her father had died and she and her younger sister had been taken away from their mom in Memphis, TN and placed in an orphanage. Their names in the orphanage were Dora(my grandmother) and Dollie Lowry. We have never known if that was their real surname or not. The little sister was eventually adopted and died in Chicago in 1907. My grandmother ended up in Chattanooga where she met and married my grandfather in 1912. She died in 1972 never knowing what had happened to her mother. my concentration in Carroll County came because of a photograph I saw on www.ancientfaces.com It was a mystery photo of a man, a woman, and a little girl. There was also a Newfoundland breed dog in the photo and my grandmother had spoken of having to leave her beloved Newfoundland dog when the family had moved around 1896. The photo was purchased at an Estate sale in Huntingdon, TN. Something about the little girl reminded me of my grandmother and I actually contacted the owner of the photo and the lady sent it to me. So, here's my question, do you know of any Lowry's from the Carroll County area? My grandmother always said that her father's name was either John or George. She did not remember her mother's name. I did find a Nell Moses who was married to a John Lowry and there is record of a Lowry baby who died in Memphis whose parents were John and Nell Lowry. This death occured around 1899, but my grandmother never mentioned her mother giving birth to a third child so it might not be related at all. I know that writing to you is a longshot, but I saw your site and liked it and just couldn't resist poring out my story. I live in Memphis and I have 35 first cousins who are so hopeful that I will at last be able to uncover the secret of who our great grandparents were. If you have any ideas, I'd love to hear from you.
Thank you,
Beverly Scott

Hello!
I am a direct decendant of the Chandler line, and also the McSwains. Upon doing years of research, many of us have discovered that the "Chandler" name was also spelled "CANDLER." My Great-Grandmother was Susan Catherine/Caroline "Chandler" HUNTER from Trigg County, Kentucky. She married Elbert Jessie Hunter. Her Parents were William J. Chandler/Candler & Mary Elizabeth "McSwain" Candler.
I am most interested in any PHOTOS you might have to share, and also any further information. I recently had the name "Throgmorton" brought to my attention in our lineage & Genealogy as well. The line of Chandler/Candler has been very hard to trace down thus far, and also very little Photographs that any of us are aware of... I do have several old vintage Photos of my Great-Grandmother Susan C. "Chandler/Candler" Hunter that I would be glad to share with anyone of this direct lineage. These were taken in Kentucky.
You have a great Web Site here and I'm very glad I stumbled across it! Keep up the great work, and let me know if you have PHOTOS to share! Many Thanks!!

I am trying to get background information on my great-grandfather, William Morris(possibly Maurice) Maxwell. He was born 10/5/1806 "in Virginia", but that's as far back as I can go. He married Martha Jane Howard 1/13/1848 in Henry Co (performed by C.J. Bradley (M.G.?)and died in Caledonia, Henry Co. 2/23/68. Wife died next day, both buried in "family burial plot" at Caledonia. 1859 census shows William M. Maxwell in 10th Civil Dist of Henry Co as a merchant (wife and children's names check out). 1860 census shows him as J.P. Old Time Stuff says that in 1857 Caledonia had post office with William M. Maxwell as postmaster. Other sources identify him as a Mason, merchant and planter. Children: John Basil Maxwell(my grandfather), 4/21/51-7/5/1901,Troy, Tn; Mary Harriette Maxwell ___, 5/19/49-9/7/1937, Cedar Falls,Iowa; Howard Morris Maxwell, 11/2/60-9/22/1915, Wenachee, Wa; Stonewall Jackson Maxwell, 6/14/63-11/21/1950,Tacoma, Wa. At parents' death, all moved to Troy, Tn to live with Steven M. Howard, their Mother's brother.

How to go about finding something in Henry Co records that might give clue to where in Va. William M. Maxwell was born, or names of parents?? I live in Memphis, and will come to Paris to work on this if I get help on where to begin.

Do they have land record and marriage bonds from the mid to late 1800's there? I am still desperately looking for any information on George Washington Vancleave who was born in PA. Ended up in Marshall Co., Alabama and is in the 1840 census there at the age of between 40-50. Married Nancy Evans and had several children. Related through his son Henry Sonville Vancleave who migrated to Ellis Co., Tx as did most of his other children. Can't connect him with any other Vancleave's but is thought may be son of John Vancleave and Catherine Benham. His children and wife have all been consistent about his birth being in PA as did he in the censuses he appears in. If anyone has any information I would be greatly appreciative. Among his children were Thomas B., John, Henry, Prudence, Martha, Margaret and William.

I have been researching for a George Washington Vancleave who was born in PA abt. 1780. In the 1860 Marshall Co., Al census lists his age as 80 and born in PA. He had several children and came to Al sometime about 1840 it is believed. Before he came to Alabama no record is found on him or who his parents were. Supposedly we are related to the Wright Brothers through Vancleave's. Rumor has his parents as John Vancleave and Catherine Benham. No proof has ever been found and we are stuck. Any suggestions? We have posted information to numerous message boards and county sites but no response from anyone. Eventually all his children ended up in Texas, Ellis County.

Thanks for your contribution to TN genealogy. I have been looking very hard to find the parents of Isaac West, whom I think was in the area of Henry/Weakley Counties in 1850. He should be age 14 in 1850. He was 24 in the 1860 Weakley Co. TN census and married to Elizabeth, age 29. Censuses indicate that he was born in Tn. Deeds and Tax records indicate West families in Henry Co. in the 1830's. I will appreciate any information you can provide. Thanks, Gene

I have been to your site before and have been researching our Vancleave relatives for several years. We are stuck with our grgrgrandfather, George Washington Vancleave, who was supposedly born in Pennsylvania and family lore says his parents were John Vancleave and Catherine Benham. John Vancleave was killed by Indians in Dayton, Ohio and George supposedly ran away from home after his mother remarried. None of this information is verified however and no written records exist that we know of. He ended up in Marshall Co., Alabama around 1840 and married Nancy Evans Quinn who was about 23 years younger than him. They had several children and we descend through his son Henry Sonvill Vancleave who moved to Ellis Co., Tx after his father died. All his children and wife have been consistant on all census records their father and Nancy's husband was born in PA but we have been unable to put him with a family record anywhere and he also stated in the census records on him that he was born in PA. Would you have any suggestions or information to help us? It would be very appreciated.

My grandparents all came from Hancock, TN. I have not found any listings for Samuel J. Miller who lived there or of his father and mother in the late 80s or early 1900s. He is on the 1880 us gen site as being 46 but nothing about his father and mother. Samuel J. Miller married Sophronia Miller and moved away to Oregon probably in the early 1900s. His death is not noted in Oregon so I assume that maybe he might have died in tennessee. Please help! This is an old line of Miller clan who maybe found in other counties like Hardin or Bolivar Tennessee. Thank you if you have the time to research any of my family!

Pinkney's kids are Pinkney C., Willie,(male) and Lennie (female). A.E. has a daughter listed as Purira Hurt. Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.

Hi, Like your site design. I am a professional site designer myself, just finished the updates for a Legal Services site dealing in Official Government Apostille documents and things for birth certificates, college diplomas, visas, marriage certificates etc so that they are recognized as genuine by foreign governments worldwide.

A handy service for those needing to have documentation certified or notarized for international use (like when tracing family etc or proving you are really the next of kin to someone who unfortunately died abroad)
Apparently an Official Apostille is accepted in over 61 countries so stops Foreign Bureaucrats from turning your ancestry search into a nightmare.

Looks like your have put some good work into the layout, navigation is very important. Well done.

I am a lost Chandler. I don't seem to link to any Chandler yet. I have such sketchy information on my mother's father. He apparently disappeared or died before her birth.I have my grandmother's marraige lisence and my mother's birth certificate. The marraige lisence is handwritten and not very legible. I am able to translate the information regarding my grandmother, due to I know her information already. I have also found discrepancies in her information. My grandmother was born in Littleton, NH and her mother in Lunenburg, VT, the marraige lisence says my grandmother was born in Lisbon, NH (not true) and her mother was born in Orford, NH (also not true) So I am led to believe that my grandfather's information on his and his parents may also be untrue.
Marraige lisence reads Groom: William Chandler Place of Residence: Syracuse, NY Color: White Date Blood Test Done: 8/26/47 Occupation: Show Foreman Number of marraiges: 1st Age in Years: 27 Place of Birth: Syracuse, NY Father's Name David or Daniel Chandler (I am having trouble deciding what his first name is) Birthplace: ? (unable to read the town) NY
Mothers Name: Marie Lapa--e (cant make out her last name) Birthplace: Bust, France.
My grandmother's name was Marceline Day Williams at the time of the marraige and it was her second marraige. The marraige took place in Bradford, VT on August 30, 1947. At a carnival.
I am thinking that my grandparents did not know their exact place of birth or their parents so they just put where they were living at the time. My grandmother did live in Lisbon, NH after her divorce from her first marraige. It is possible that William and/or his father was born in PA or NY.
The story in my family is William worked for a carnival called Grimes Amusements. My grandmother met him at the carnival. They new each other less than a week and when they got married. After they were married she traveled with him, but she got homesick for NH. She became pregnant with my mother and they decided they would return to NH to live. My grandmother went ahead of him, with him supposing to join her in two weeks. She came back to NH and never saw him again. After two weeks she tried to find him. She tells us this for years. "There was a carnival truck with animals on it that had an accident, there was two men in it, the vehicle caught fire and the two men were burned beyond description" One of those men is thought to have been my grandfather, William Chandler. I have been unable to clarify this accident really took place. I would like not to think my grandmother made it up and that my grandfather abandoned her. The accident happened sometime at the end of 1947 or beginning of 1948. My mother was born June 1, 1948.
If William had siblings, maybe they know the story and passed it on to their children, and that would be a possible way to link my William to someone. William was probably born in 1920.
Also my mother's birth certificate gives William's middle name as "John".

I am a direct Chandler descendant from my mothers side. Her name was Jennieve. She married my father who had my same name. Her father was Charles Walter Chandler. His father was John Walter Chandler and he was supposed to have been born ABT 1841 in N.J. I have the feeling we are somehow related, but my own studys have not revealed much about my great grandfather or his family. My parents and grandparents were all from the area around Chanute, Kansas and vicinity. I believe my great grandfather married Mary Christine Garretson and they lived around the McPherson, Kansas area. She then remarried to a Mr. William Parsons. The cause of the end of the prior marriage is not known to me at this time. Can you break this puzzle for me? I really wish you could? Do you know anything about my great grandfather, John Walter Chandler, who was the father of Charles Walter Chandler? I know he was born in New Jersey abt. 1841, but beyond that I draw a blank in researching. My ggg grandfather, Richard Shell, came to Henry Co., around 1834 that I can tell. The oldest paperwork that I can find is a deed dated 1834. He is then listed in the 1840 census thru 1860. I like your page and will come back.

Great web pages and I am a new genealogist trying to figure it all out for my own familys, I know my ggfather was named John Chandler and I know my other grandfather (dads side) +dads name is same as my own.....well... his name was John Daniel Pruitt. I have a cousin named Lynn in New Mexico who also does research on genealogy. I can't track the Pruitts back any further than the Kansas 1920 census and it doesn't help me eiether that all it says about John Pruitt is born in Texas. Yippee! As for the John Chandlers and MAYBE HIS DAD WAS named Henry...wellllll there are about a billion John Chandlers and lots of Henrys too. So here I am all frustrated at the start. I do like the great work you have done and am looking for help on it. I wonder if our Chandler roots are related? What do you think? My grandma, Sally (Sarah) Chandler was a Nelson, she lived in Va and then in Anadarko, Oklahoma. Grandpa Chandlers name was Charles Walter Chandler. The clans of Pruitts settled around Neosho county Kansas (i.e.)Chanute and the Chandlers seem to migrate into Wilson county via Va and via Oklahoma. Write and let me know? Everett

My lines are the Owen, Mathis, Dunn, Moody, Gillum, and more. My cousin, Louise Wallace married a Marshall Bomar. She passed away in the late 60's and I believe Marshall has since remarried. They had a son, Pepper. If you are related, I would like to contact Marshall. I am the last son of Joe Owen, son of Harris and Martha Owen. I like your website.

With your history perhaps you could assist. I am seeking info concerning my GGrandfather, John W. York who lived in Carroll Co (Huntingdon) Tn. Born where ?, but shown in the 1900 census with my Ggrandmother Sara(Dill) York and my grandfather Leonard and Aunt Willie. John was born in 1974 and Grandmother in 1878. My Grandfather was born supposedly in 1898 in Hntingdon. Grear Grand pa was listed as a Holiness preacher.
I am curious if you may have access to info on any of this or find a Holiness preaching conference as a start. Grandfather may have had another name at birth and been adopted. I have hit a brick wall with this one.
Thanking you in advance. I am on several lists already.

My Burdette ancesters came from Culpeper, VA by way of North Carolina. They landed in Henry, TN in 1851 Why they came to Henry, our family doesn't know. I'd be curious to know if you knew a little history there that might help us understand. I recently found they settled in District 4 of Henry and went to a church [established in 1848]called Bethlehem Baptist Church. I went there yesterday and took pictures of the church if you're interested. There was a graveyard next to it but I don't remember seeing any of your family names unless it was Byars. Have you run across any grave sites with the Burdette name? I'm expecially interested in James Burdette, born Mar. 3, 1794. I've hit a brick wall with trying to find his father.

I really like your site, girl. I too started my search only last year. Most of my Adams line started in N.C. and went to Tenn. and Ky. A lot of them in Henry co.,Tn. I have been trying to find out where an aunt and her husband might be buried. They were country folk, like me, and lived outside of Paris. Can't seem to find the right cemetary. They are Galdys Adams and William Sprague. Parents were Beulah Calhoun and Boyd Allen Adams. The parents were buried at Olive Branch Cemetary, although they died in Mayfield, Ky. Thank you. sites like this are a Godsend .

Hello. I was wondering if you have come across any Herndon or Riggs from the Carroll County area during your genealogy research. If you could share this information with me, I'd be very grateful as I am compiling a family tree history. Riggs is my father's side and Herndon is my mother's side. Thank you.
