I stumbled across a state monument near the head waters of richland creek in present day nort central hill county which reads "site of fort smith one of the chain of fortifications extending from the colorodo to the red river established in about 1846 as a protection against indians named for major thomas I. smith".i researched a little by going to the hillsboro library which has an interesting local texas history section where I read some acounts of thomas i smith being the first comander of the outpost.I also read there an acount of the first surveyer sent by the united states from washington D.C. to arive to that part of present day hill county and attempt to survey lands for maping that part of (then navaro county texas).where in his acount stated soon after breaking camp on the second day of surveying an area nick named a few years later by the first settelers of files valley as the "mountain"was confronted by a fairly angry thomas I smith and what he described as a lenching mob of some twevle or so settlers of the area.and in fear of being lenched had been most brutaly convinced to abandon any attempts of continueing a servey of any kind any where around the area and that to them he was nothing more than an unwanted trespasser upon private properties.the monument of fort smith in texas is a good one hundred maybe one hundred fifty feet off to one side of the present day farm to maket road and is easily over looked.I have pictures of the monument and can give directions to the site from I.H.35E or I.H.35W north of hillsboro texas to any one interested.just EMail me at stump_euphoria@yahoo.com

What a relief to find our great granddaddy. We had his name wrong: Henry. Maybe that's what his wife called. She was known to us as "Muddie." They moved to Somerset TX and had one son, Thea, in 1903. It's wonderful!! I will notify my sisters in San Antonio. Now we know where he's buried. No wonder San Antonio had nothing on him. Thank you so much for the website. Mattie's first husband, William L. "Bill" Williamson were married in 1880 when she was 17. He was 27. They had two girls: Willie L. and Mary Elizabeth. The story we were told is that he went on a cattle drive or train and never came back. After waiting for awhile, Hervey and Mattie married.
Does anybody have any info on Mr. Williamson. It's such a mystery what happened to him.

I am a desendant of Nicholas through Joseph Bartlett / William Royal Bartlett / James Pierce Bartlett / William Emmett Bartlett / James Pierce Bartlett / me. My main reason for checking with you is to inquire if you have ANY information on the father & grandfather of Nicholas Bartlett.
Genealogical Tips, Vol. XIX, No. 1, page 15 lists William Bartlet (1710-1762) with Nicholas II (1742-1812) as his second son. You are probably aware of this. But then it lists Nicholas Bartlett (1642-1690) before him. With Nicholas dying in 1690 and William born in 1710, Nicholas could not be William's father. There appears to be a missing generation there. Could you direct me to info on William, Nicholas I & the missing link?
I have fascinating info I could share with you about the Oregon pioneer James Pierce, his marriage to Cordelia Ingles (an even earlier Oregon pioneer) & their descendants if you are interested. Thank you, Gene

Family story is: Charles David Clayton's mother died when he was young and his father remarried. After his father died, his step-mother remarried, and so he left home at age 13, next found in Wise Co,Texas in 1883.
He named one of his sons John Blake Clayton and another son William Estel Clayton.

Hi My name is Donnora Bylander Caswell. I am the Great Great Granddaughter of Merida Myles Montana Ciscero King and Maudie Alma(Lancaster) King. My line goes through Basil Homer King who was my mother's Grandfather. Basil was born in 1896 inbetween John William King and Franklin Andrew King. We do not know where Basil was born. Basil Homer King married Era Mary Goodall. Both Basil and Era King are buried in the Girard Cemetary in Girard Texas. Basil had siblings John William King, Monroe King, Beatrice King (married Roy Norman), Eula Mae King (married Virgil Samuel Kilpatrick), Franklin King, Ray King and
Ortho King. This link lists some of the siblings but not all of them.
<http://members.tripod.com/~the_home_grown_beans/dat1094.html#0>
Basil Homer King the son of Merida Myles Montana Ciscero King and Maudie Alma King (went by Mam King) and his wife Era Mary (Goodall) King had 3 children. Their names were I.D. King (my Grandfather), Granvel King and
Sybil King. Sybil married a Hester and they had one son named Billy. Sybil died at the age of 18 years old from luekemia. My Grandpa, I.D. King was the oldest child of Basil Homer King and Era King. I.D. King (yes is name was just initials) married Erna Mae Andrews and they had
three children, Mary Elnora King, Joy Marie King and Aubrey D. King. My mother, Joy Marie King married Gary St. James Bylander on May 16, 1960 and they had Donnora Mae Bylander, Roxie Ann Bylander and Jovon Bylander.
We all are married and have children.
Please help me to get the accurate information on your website. The son that is listed as being born 10 August in 1911 in Stonewall County, Texas to Merida King and Maudie King could be Monroe King. All I know is that my Greatgrandpa Basil Homer King and his descendants are not
listed on your website. I don't know why the Loop Family didn't have his information. All of the King's in this family were born in or around Childress County, Texas, Comanche County Texas, Kent County Texas, etc.
Is this bloodline of the King's of Indian Descent? We always heard that but weren't sure. Also Marida Myles Montana Ciscero King was a Church of Christ Preacher from what I've heard but I've never found any records of that.
Hello to all of my cousins and family members that this site represents. *smile*
Thanks for all of your help.

Name: Barbara Ann Guinn Adamson <wadomain@earthlink.net> Date: 2004-07-22 Person on this site who interests me This is my great grandparents and Theora is my grandmother. How I found this site by Google search What I like best about this page The pictures that I can get from cousin Michael ! Comments:
It is wonderful to find these pictures on the Site. Michael has provided me with all the information about our ancestors. He has wonderful stories. I have pictures of the Bartlett Home.
You asked about the brick of the Bartlett Home. It was one of a kind and was never made again after the home was completed. TA Bartlett got an award for being the first to make the coloring of brick.
Others asked about plans for the house. Just recently my father of 77yrs. told me the story of the "plans" for his grandparents home. The more I find out about the history of our family I think I should write a book. Prompted by the fact that I recently retired and have the time to be interested in the geneology of our family, I got my Daddy to start telling stories that I had never heard of before. While I was telling of my dream of restoring the house he remembered the stories he had heard when he was a boy. The story is that Mama Bartlett (Daddy's Grandmother) drew the plans with a stick on the dirt in front of the builders and there wasn't a basement at the beginning of planning until something happened and Mama Bartlett solved the problem by adding the basement. I always wondered why a basement in Texas? I wasn't listening very closly when Daddy was telling the story but on my to do list this week I am going to have him tell the story to me again and I will write it down and get back with you later. Amazing how a house like that could be built from plans on the dirt.
I have of course snap shots of family gatherings there but also some photos that look to be professionally taken. I don't know if they were taken by a family member or someone else. Some interior pictures of the foyer and the great room. Some show the beautiful rocked pond in the back of the house that my great grand father (Papa) kept gold fish in. The house is still very much in the hearts of the grandsons and grand daughter and the elder great grand children that still remember the wonderful memories created in the home. I am very guarded with the pictures, in fact they are framed and hanging in my home. My dream was to be able to one day restore the home. When I saw that it was for sale again at the low price my heart leaped as I thought this is my chance but quickly realized that I could not afford the amount of money (and time) it would take to restore it.
So about how it came to be in condition it is today:
When Papa and Mama Bartlett became unable to take care of themselves, my grandmother, the eldest daughter, moved in with them to care for them until their death. My grandparents remained in the house for a number of years and took care of it as best they could. I remember my grandfather mowing and mowing and mowing the grass and keeping the grounds as best he could. Too much land for one man to care for and he didn't have the money for garden boys that Papa Bartlett had. But they had cows and chickens and turkeys and hunting dogs. At Christmas , All the family would meet back at the home. This meant all of the children of Papa and Mama (4 girls and 1 brother) and their families ( 7 grandchildren I think) and I haven't counted the great grand children yet. Oh, how my Grandmother would decorate the home for Christmas. She was quite the artist of beautiful decor. I doubt that the Biltmore Estate was anymore beautiful at Christmas. I have many stories to tell of grand times and of sad times there.
When my grandfather died, grandmother had to get a job and sell the home. All the Bartlett children had families of their own, didn't live in Malakoff. This was in the late 50's and Malakoff was not a booming town. The house was being cracked by the explosives from the brick company next to it. The family sold the home and watched it through the years become the condition it is in today. It saddened our hearts but we were helpless to do anything about it. You can not imagine how excited we are to think that someone will restore it to it's grandeur. We hope they will want to seek information about what the house used to look like from our family. We are thankful that we will hopefully see it restored in our lifetime.
Thanks for the interest,
Ann

German Berry and his first wife before Susanna Bailes are
direct lines through son, Henry Berry about 8 years younger
thab his Step Mother, Susanna.
Henry and his second wife, Cinthia had son,
Henry Berry md Eliza Johnson ( Grand Parents of my very own mother. These facts I was raised Knowing.
Comment: Henry, son of German Berry born in 1766 himself
was born in NC I have reasons to think the mother of
German Berry was his full sister as opposed to 1/2 sister.
I don't feel that Susanna and German actually had children
other than his. Please comment. Maybe you have something
more to help.

Somewhere around here I have a picture of a family reunion when my dad was a kid...the Waters and Bartlett's were there. I remember Carrie Bartlett, too. Thanks for the memories.

I appreciate your posting your Naudain work, thank you.
I'm descended from Catherine Louisa Naudain (dau. of Sen. Arnold Naudain, MD), who married A. Boyd Hamilton (my 3rd great grandparents). I'd be happy to hear from Naudain researchers and distant cousins. I've been working hard for years now getting our extensive genealogy together, and hope to self-publish eventually.
I've found some inconsistencies between the Naudain family details provided by A. Boyd Hamilton (Hamilton Family Record, 1870's) and Warner W. Naudain (1988). Mr. Naudain used Judge Lattomus's work as the basis for his transcription, but did add new information as he was able to bring things current to the publication date. I don't know if I'll ever iron out the consistencies, but I'll look forward to hearing from any interested Naudain researchers/cousins. Thanks!

I am interested in your Lazarus Nichols McFadin son of Nathan Arnett McFadin Jr and his wife Lenora Jane Nichols who I presume is the daughter of Lazarus Nichols since you noted that their son was named for his maternal grandfather. I have a Lazarus Nichols in my family line born in 1809 and lived in Webster Co MO. I'm still not sure of all his children- there were 16 to 20 of them so it might be probable or possible that Lenora was a child from the 2nd marriage since I don't know where any of the second family ended up. I'll keep checking. Lazarus Nichols owned several general stores in and around Webster Co MO and your Lazarus Nichols McFadin had a Meat market. Following in grandpa's footsteps?

I am interested in finding the primary sources of income of my ancestors. I was told that my descendents from Baden-Baden Germany were craftsmen and farmers. I'm not sure where is information came from or if it's even accurate. My grandfather, Leo Winkler from Potosi, Wisconsin was a farmer and a damned good carpenter. My fater is also a farmer and I am proud to say I am one too. (I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree). It is incredible to see the information that is compiled. I admire the hard work and dedication put into this website. It is greatly appreciated.
