Researching my Stewarts of PEI (of which there are so many I cannot tell who's who) My ancestors lived on Lot 62, Queens and I can only go back to gr gr grandparents: Murdoch Stewart and Christy (Christina?) Martin Stewart.
The 1861 census for this Lot 62 has Alexander; Malcolm; Ronald; Allen and Murdoch Stewart as well as Alexander and Donal Martin.
Is there any way to find more information on these families and their relationships to one another?

Thanks, Susan I H Stuart

John and Flora's children were: Hector, Flora, Angus, Annie (1) and Annie (2), Catherin (Kitty), John, Mary and Margaret (Peggy) who married John McMillan (from Mull) in Digbym Victoria Austraoia in 1864. Do you think that there is a connection with your Nicolsons.

Thanks to your site, I learned the following about my descendents:
I can traced myself to Norman Stewart, who was born about 1700, Isle of Skye. He and his wife had children, including Malcolm who was born about 1733. Malcolm married a MacIntyre, and they had had at least one son, Norman (born about 1761). Norman married Mary Finlayson (born about 1766). They lived in Sconser, Isle of Skye and raised children, including Alexander Stewart (b. 1798).

Alexander wed Catherine Murchison (b. 1813 in Gedintailor), and they had four children (John, Malcolm, Flora, and Samuel). The family sailed away from Skye in the summer of 1842 on the barque "John Keer" of Greenock. They landed in Sydney, Cape Breton, and rented a house for a short time but soon found an opportunity to get to Charlottetown, PEI. From there they travelled to High Bank and settled beside Alexander's brother, Angus Norman Stewart, who had left Skye the previous year.

The line continues to my grandfather Beaton Stewart (b. 1911), who married Louise Bears. They lived in Caledonia PEI, and had two girls: my mother Verna (b.1933), and my aunt Margaret.
Thanks again, Steve

I am researching my family history, the Finlaysons from Skye! Most came from Snizort South, but some came from the Gedintailor area! No Stewarts, I'm afraid! There are MacMillans, MacLeods, MacDougalls and MacIntoshes! Charles Finlayson and wife Marion MacDougall (spelt in many different ways) came out to Victoria, Australia, in the 1850s. I am a novice Family History enquirer. I have only the oral history handed down to me from my Paternal GF, Samuel
Wallace Stuart, who died in 1984. He always told me our family sailed from Skye in April,1845, on a ship called
"Deliverance" bound for Quebec, Lower Canada. Later they
migrated to St.Rimi region near Montreal. Then in 1855 they came to Chicago. Heading South to Kankankee, then Missouri, then Oregon Trail to Idaho. So far, I've been able to get back to Missouri. I need help, suggestions, &
any clues one might offer a neophyte.

Records show a 15 year old Donald so his year of birth would have been circa.1823. He died on 30/10/1914. Any help in tracing family of origin would be appreciated. By the way, Great site.

HEY!!!!!!!
I am SOOO excited- you have NO idea- my mother is going to PLOTZ!!!! We're Stewarts from P.E.I.!!!! My Nana was Annie Stewart (Jolley)- daughter of Big Charlie who is buried out in Vancouver somewhere but was born on Nova Scotia. Big Angus, Big Charlie, Big someone else, I forget. My son is 6'4", my nephew6'5' because of these Stewarts! At any rate- Peter Stewart came over from the isle of Skye- not the Polly, maybe the " Ouhgton" or "Dykes" or something like that- had a genology too big to put here. I 'googled' Isle of Skye geneology and found you folks- how cool is that? At any rate- I'll go look things up and out them in a tad more lucid form. My Nana's (who was my great-grandmother) sister- Aunt Agnes, married and stayed theere and had many children who are still there. No Stewarts, however- from that line, altho I am VERY interested in meeting the inevitable relatives from generations back!!!
Can you tell I am REALLY happy about your web site!
Thanks SOOO much!!!

Hello Wanda, You have a nice web site, very encouraging. My name is Kelley Dean Stewart. I am born from Edward James Stewart whom was born from Charles Edward Stewart and Lucy Viola Gallant(Stewart), whom was born from Philip Stewart and at some point from Angus Stewart. Angus Stewart was born in Isle of skye and I think he came to Prince Edward Island in the late 1869/70. My grand father Charles lived in West Point PEI next door to his brother Orvil Stewart.
I am very proud to come from a strong lineage, where the slogan of our clan rings true for my great uncles and grand father all of whom went to world war 2 and all returned alive.
Yours truly
Kelley Dean Stewart

Hi Wanda;
Great website. Hopefully I can get what I've done, which is most of what you've done sent to you. I have added the (Suckles-Sickles) connection who were from Whim Rd. Lower Montague. My daughter Diane researched Dembo Suckles, a black slave who probably belonged to the Creeds who owned a farm in lower Montague, and is buried in the Pioneer Cemetery there. One of his descendants married Annie Stewart, daughter of Gedintailor, Skye Samuel Stewart. Annie was my grandmother.

I've been to PEI, met many folks there, now mostly deceased, and was in Gedentailor in August.

Dear Wanda,
My Scottish ancestors are ROSE,PETRIE,and GORDON,
from Inverness, and Aberdeenshire. I have not been to the Isle of Skye, nor to PEI. When my husband and I had a world trip we only got as far up as Edinburgh, and though we went to Canada we did not get to PEI, though I would have liked that very much.I have always wanted to go there, to see if it is, as described in the 'Anne' books. My husband has a second cousin by marriage-MacLellan! Great site, though!

Dear Wanda
I have decided to send you this info / query through the webpage instead of personal email in the hope that someone can help enlighten me.

As you know, my husband is descended from Ronald Stewart of Sconser, Isle of Skye, through both Charles and Donald who went to PEI on The Polly. Charles's son Malcom Angus (Belle Creek) & Donald's daughter Margaret (Pinette) married and emigrated to New Zealand.

Margaret told her daughter Flora that her PEI siblings were Catherine, (then herself), Margaret, Christine, Mary and Samuel.

However, you have only these first 4 girls listed in generation 2 (Alexander Stewart & Catherine Martin)of 'Descendants of Donald Stewart'. You also inform that Alexander drowned and Catherine remarried. So last night I searched the Baptismal records of St. John's Belfast Church to see if I could find children to them.

Results:
Child 1. Janet McWilliam born 16 June 1845 / Baptised 2 July 1846

Child 2. Mary McWilliam born 6 May 1849 / Baptised 24 October 1847

Child 3. Hugh McWilliam born 6 May 1849 / Baptised 25 July 1849.

So these half siblings may be added to your website if wished.

I speculate that Janet may not have lived and therefore that is why Margaret did not mention her.
I speculate / suppose that the Mary she does mention is her halfsister, cited above.
I wonder if the 'Samuel' Margaret mentioned is the Hugh cited above, and was his 'common usage' name.
CAN ANYONE HELP!!! PLEASE!!!

Warmest regards from New Zealand where daylight saving has just ended and the crunch of early Autumn is as crisp as the apples being harvested.

Carole Stewart

Dear Wanda

Plenty of murmers, but instead of 'over the sea to Skye' it is from New Zealand and 'over the sea to Prince Edward Island'. I am sure, that in those homesick years of yesterday, Angus and Margaret would never have dreanmed this could be so, and that all these years later, they are alive to PEI.

I am excited to at last discover by careful sifting that the letters that Angus sent back to PEI were to his siter Ann & that the William he refers to in them is her son. How extroadinary that William's photo is displayed on your site next to Angus!

You will have worked out that Des Stewart and my husband Barry are first cousins. We had a lovely meetup last year and togther with a very few others, are keen to complete as much Stewart genealogy as possible.

Best regards

Congratulations Wanda, on your efforts.

I have printed out the descendants of Charles Stewart - (as you know, my husband is descended from that family through Angus who emigratd to New Zealand on the Prince Edward) so I can study them & add them to my data.
I shall update you on the names of children of Angus, birthdates, etc, in a few days, as I see I have that information and you do not.
I have yet to find Margaret Stewart, Malcom's wife, on your page.
Does anyone know why the name Stewart changed to STUART for some of the family, for a while, once they got to PEI?

Best regards and what a wonderful effort! I hope it is just the beginning of a great shared knowledge.

Do you want to post any of Angus's letters to his sister in PEI on you page, for instance, the one that has the Gaelic as well as English?

Thanks for setting this up Wanda! You've done a great job.

I am researching Skye Stewarts from Carbost, Eabost, Eynort, Bracadale, Cuidrach, Edinbane, Meadale, Portree and just about every other village on MacLeod lands. I am related to more than one Stewart family. Ours settled in Glengarry Ontario in the townships of Kenyon and Lancaster. Others settled in Australia (the Melbourne Area and Sydney), New Zealand and the United States (North Carolina and Georgia). I have a large database on Skye Stewarts. If you would like me to do a search for you, please contact me. I have contacted many Skye Stewart descendants from around the world so I may be able to help link relatives up. I have contacted Stewarts living on Skye and North Uist today and it seems many like my own emigrated to Skye from Appin. Our oral history says the family left Appin due to feuding with the Campbells and there were strong ties to our MacLeod cousins.
