What I liked best about this site It´s a great site with a lot of informations

Hej.
I am very interested in genealogi, and therefore I very often search the internet. But it is very difficult to find exatly what I am looking for.
I am interested in immigrants from Denmark to Barre, Vt from about 1900 to 1925. My grandfather, Anton Andersen and his brothers Edvard, Carl, Ernst and his sisters Laura and Antoinette immigrated to Vt during these years. My grandfather went back to Denmark, but the others stayed in Vt. Perhaps anyone could help me to find some informations - and perhaps find their children and grandchildren?? In that case, I would be very happy.
Tahnk you.

What I liked best about this site the picture of Hiram Baird
Comments:
It was a thrill for me to see the picture of Hiram Baird. My dad and Uncle could pass for his brothers, they look so much like him. We decend from Lester L Baird (of the civil war) and Lucy J. Barrey. I would love to know about Lucy Barrey's family and also would like to know about the Charles Hewitt family. My family also decends from the Charles Hewitt family but I don't know which Charles. I do know that he had a child named Helen Hewitt who is my great great grandmother. Any information would be a great help.
I enjoyed reading all the stories in this site and I really appreciate all the work that went into this. It is great fun to read the stories and realize that it is about your ancestors. Thank you for all your hard work

I'd like to add that the article on General Moses Hazen neglects to mention his despicable crimes. In 1759 on the Saint-John River(New Brunswick) he and his men were responsible for the brutal murder of fleeing Acadian women and children.Although it's said that his commander Gen.Jeffrey Amherst deplored this act,Amherst still promoted Hazen(Amherst didn't deplore it very much I guess

I enjoy visiting this site, as I learn about Vermont history and try to find out about my ancestors. My g-grandfather was Frank Ållen Burnham Gove, married my g-grandmother Elizabeth Huntington. They lived in Barre, had children and moved to California early 1900's. Not too many Goves moved to California (Bay Area). I'm intrigued with Vermont and New Hampshire where there are still plenty of Goves. I'll have to make a visit, it sounds beautiful.

Looking for info on Edward Boardman born abt 1830- in either Highgate or Bakersfield, Vermont. He was son of Edward & Helen. He married Julia Riley. Julia was born in County Cork, Ireland abt 1835+. They married abt 1858 and lived in Cambridge, Mass in 1860. I have not found a marriage record for them in Mass. So it is possible they were married in Vermont or Canada. Julia immigrated abt 1855. Would like more info on both the Boardman & Riley families.

Very much enjoyed the site and particularly the history of Starksboro. I was hoping to find some additional information on them in the history of Starksboro but no such luck. Still trying to find out specifically where, when my gggrandfather was born and who his parents were.

My Mother's french/canadian families lived in the Franklin area for many years, I especially have enjoyed reading the history. I've heard of the smugglers. One of my grandfathers is said to have been one. They were the last house on the road to Morses Line and also owned a "Hotel" right over the line in St.Armand.

I am searching for the Ancestors of Ephraim Holley, my ggrandfather. Ephraim had 4 known brothers: Crandall b 1781 in CT, Hiram b 1799 in VT and Nathan b 1794 in VT. Ephraim b 1787 and Benjamin b 1793 in Washington County, NY. Ephraim was married to Betsey Carpenter (second wife) and I believe he and his first wife may have lived in VT between 1812-1819. I have since found that Nathan Holley's father was Benjamin from Pawlet, VT. Is Nathan the brother I am seeking and is his father Benjamin the father of the Holley brothers.

Kudos to the folks responsible for the content and design of this web site. Keep up the good work.

My particular interest is in the town of Dorset where my ancestors, Titus and Rhoda (Miller) Sykes settled when they moved into Vermont (with several of their grown children) from Springfield, MA. I have a listing of the Sykes burials in Dorset's Maple Hill Cemetery posted on a link from http://sikes-sykesfamilies.rootsweb.com/Index.html There are also many Sykes allied families from Dorset recorded on the Associated Families link.

I really enjoyed this and printed out many pages with Mattison on them. My oldest ancester was born in Bennington co. in 1812. Laban Norton Matteson I have not been able to locate his birth, parents, siblings. I do have all of his children, his marriage to Clarissa Daniels of Mass. b. 1816.
I have her line back to Rev. War to Starling Daniels.

I have found Laban there in 1850-1860 cenus records in Stamford. His sons went to the Civil War from there, Albert and Oscar though they are not buried in Stamford but in Missouri and Illinois many years later.

His daughters are buried in Stamford and Arlington. Why Arlington? All four of the first children were born in Adams, Mass and the last 2 in Stamford.

Please keep upt the good work. I have hired a genealogist from the Bennington Genealogical Library to assist me. I hope he finds the connections I need. RBeda

Beautiful and informative site. One can tell a lot of time, effort and love went into the building of this website.
I have viewed every page and read every word looking for my TOMS ancestors circa 1758 and even though I did not find them in the Clarendon area, I did find other family names.
Thank you for an interesting and enjoyable evening of family research.

Smiley family of Vermont?

Loved the montages, they really provide a setting, putting one in the picture of the past. A delightful departure from the norm.

Vermont was once home to the Smiley family, but I am keen to make contact with a Vermonter Smiley. Any Smileys descended from New Hampshire, Maine, or Massachusetts are the ones likely to be my cousins. There was once a Robinson Smiley who was in Vermont, anyone know of his descendants?

Antoine Smiley is listed in the Civil War as a cook, residing in Vermont. Any rellies?

You have done a great job with the pictures and what information that is available.
I have ordered a number of "look ups" in case that my lost Nathan Smith can be found. He was born in the Town of Manchester, Bennington County, VT in Nov. 1771. When he became an adult he moved to some other county in VT. This is based on the census information that his older children in later years listed their birth place as "Vermont", but their births are not recorded (1798-1813) in the Town of Manchester.
Thank you for this site.

I am delighted at the content and form of your web site.
I especially appreciate the presentation of the Townshend, Windham County "snapshot" from the ~1900 era.

My ancestors, Alexander and Jonathan Clayton were listed among the original proprietors and settlers of Townshend. I have had little luck in tracing them in MA, before the VT move.

The painting that you use so generously add a great deal to the atmosphere of the pages ... but

I suggest that you consider changing large pix from *.jpg to interlaced *.gif files to improve loading speed.

Took as many pictures as I could of all the tombstones I could locate,Springfield and Underhill. But never found the one in Essex Jct. where my aunts are buried. You have a done a wonderful task of making this a very enjoyable place to visit. Of course, I am probably a little prejudice. :) :) Beautiful pictures and you are constantly updating it. As a native Vermonter stranded in Texas, my nostalgic interests grow as I get older. I have just recently taken up genealogy, and my computer is invaluable. Unfortunately there are few sites done as well as this one. It is a real treat, and I will be back often. I strongly urge everyone to write down some short stories about your life, for your children and your grandchildren to come. What may seem simple and unimportant to you now, will be a treasure to them.

Being born in Vermont has given me the tenacity and strength to accomplish much in my life. The character of many I was lucky enough to meet and be friends with through family, friends, classmates and my hometown of Hardwick will always be dear to my life.
I will never be able to replicate the life of the community of Hardwick that I was lucky enough to grow up in but it is a special community in its acceptance of peoples misdeeds and good deeds. My curosity was always there and most neighbors and friends helped it along

I have a dead-end in Vermont. Addison G. KINGSBURY is to have been born somewhere in Vermont in 1809. He married Minerva EDDY, also to have been born in Vermont in 1811. They then migrated into Canada. Their first child was born in Canada in 1834. They had six children in Canada before the end of 1846. They then moved to Winnebago County, Illinois before the next child was born in 1849.

Some of the Children married into the BANKS family from New Hampshire. Then several of the children moved on to Story County, Iowa.

Looking for any help I can get on KINGSBURY and EDDY families in Vermont.
