Was this page any help in finding your family line? Don't know yet
Was there anyone here that is related to you? possibly an ancestor of William Guy (brother of Arthur)
Comments:
Great site. Not sure how or if our lot connects yet.

Some GUY family members emigrated to Newfoundland, Canada, in the 1800's or earlier.

Historically, John GUY received royal permission in England in 1610 to take settlers to NL to form a colony at Cupids, Conception Bay. This failed due to English (and other countries's)fishermen and pirates attacking it.

In early NL census records, I have seen a John GUY Sr, John GUY Jr, Lewis GUY in the same area on south shore of NL, but not in Burgeo. I do not know if they were related to our William GUY from England and settled in Burgeo.

I have found a source listing a William H. GUY b. 06 May 1770 in Leeds, Yorkshire, England, d. 1859 in Burgeo, NL. Our family genealogist has a sourced date of death in Burgeo, NL for our William GUY (m. Ann MATTHEWS) d. 19 Mar 1859.

During my own lifetime, as a young child, I met Rowe (unknown if given name or nickname) GUY and his sister, Muriel (nee GUY)FRASER in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, in the early to mid 1950's. I know Rowe was close to my late father (Frank Ross WILLIAMS)through friendship and probably being related, in Nova Scotia, Canada. Most of my father's maternal DAVIDGE side came from Burgeo, NL.

I have not found them on the Rowe Family website at this point, so am starting to wonder if 'Rowe' was a nickname. As both of these siblings are unlikely to be living at this point, it is hard to know where to start looking.

Just starting to research the GUY side of the family.

Ann MATTHEWS m. William GUY are my 3xgreat-grandparents through their daughter, Sarah Jane GUY m. John DAVIDGE. Another of their 10 children was named William GUY. This given name keeps repeating in the generations, as does Arthur.
Children of Ann MATTHEWS/William GUY and their spouses:
Time frame for the following GUY Births is 1830-1846 up to Alexander. Thomas' birthdate unknown at this time.
Sarah Jane m. John DAVIDGE
Elizabeth m. John NORTHCOTT
William (spouse, if any, unknown)
John m. Sarah KENDELL
Annie m. Samuel BUFFETT
Charlotte m. Benjamin NORTHCOTT
Ambrose m. Dinah STEWART
Jane m. Christopher DICKS
Alexander m. Martha ROSE
Thomas m. Jane BOWDRIDGE
NOTE: Except for ROSE,DICKS,GUY, all other surnames are known to have variant spellings.

Recent info from our search group members place GUY, VACHER(VATCHER), SPENCER, BAGG, STICKLAND (STRICKLAND) in Bere Regis during the same time period as shown on the source link below. Many other surnames there as well.
www.curiousfox.com

Our group has little on the GUYs who emigrated to the USA.
New members who want to share are always welcomed. We do not accept unsourced information and never pass along any unsourced genealogy information.

I think that this is great. I had tried to start my family tree, but I have not had the success that you have. I was born in southwestern PA, and I have traced my roots back to England. I know that Thomas Guy (founder of Guy's hospital) is in my family tree, however I have not been able to complete the connection as of yet.
Keep up the great site, I am sure that it will help a lot of people searching for their roots.

I made a recent entry, posted on 4-19-2006, and have noticed that it contains one error due to a mixup on my part. I mentioned that Henry F. Graesser's wife was Theresa Klein, but this is not right. Theresa Klein is a great-great grandmother of mine, but from a different branch of my family tree. When I locate the correct info on Henry F. Graesser's wife, I will post it for your guestbook and records. Ed Graesser

My grandfather was Harold E. Graesser, and Raymond Graesser (who is listed on your family tree) was his eldest brother. There were four siblings: Raymond, Arthur M., Maritta, and Harold E. (in order of oldest to youngest, to the best of my knowledge). I knew Arthur M. Graesser, but I do not remember meeting Raymond (who was referred to as "Uncle Ray" by my Dad {Norman}). Their father was Ferdinand Graesser (born from Henry F. Graesser and Theresa Klein), and their mother was Matilda Wagner. I am fairly certain that Ray's daughter Esther's middle name was given in honor of her mother. According to family info and stories told by my grandfather (Harold), his brothers Raymond and Arthur M. Graesser did indeed run a bookbindery in Buffalo, as shown in the photo on your site. They took over that business from their father when he passed away at a fairly young age. I believe it is correct that the main owner from that point forward was Arthur. Arthur was maried to a woman named Lilian, and they had no children. The quotation below the photo that states that the business was finally passed on to a pair of nephews, which is consistent with information from my family. My grandfather Harold told me that he worked at that bookbindery, especially on a full time basis during WW I when Arthur served in our armed forces in Europe. One correction is in order concerning the notes posted below the photo of Celia Lutz at the A.M. Graesser bookbindery. The bookbindery was founded by Ferdinand Graesser (their father); Arther M. was not a Junior. My aunt once showed me that photo, which may have appeared in the Buffalo News. I would love to receive a good quality scan of that photo, or any other photos of the business or Ray's brothers/sister/parents. Another interesting item concerning the photo: if you look carefully at the image, in the rear and to the left of Arthur there is a person standing amongst the equipment. My Aunt and I believe it is their youngest brother Harold, (who later moved on to work most of his career at the Remington Rand Corp). I posted my e-mail with some random characters at the begining in an attempt to prevent spammers from picking it up. If someone wishes to contact me, please reply to .....graesser@voicenet.com.....

Most respectfully, Edward J. Graesser

I follow three different names but you can go to the index and look up Guy. I have a total of over 6000 names in my data base.

I am the son of William I. Guy (Coeur D' Alene Idaho)...who I believe lived in Wisconsin for a few years, and was from Pennsylvania before that. He has a brother named Bob and a brother named Mike and a sister...not sure of her name. Where do I fit in this family tree....I'm having a hard time making sense out of it. Any comments would be welcome. The one thing that I did learn from this site, is that my name is probably Irish or English?

There was a large contingent of the Guy family in Newry, Norther Ireland. The earliest record that I currently have is of an admiral John Guy, 1709.
I can trace my family history back to Newry, my great Grandfather Charles Stewart Guy was born there but trained as a solicitor in the UK, where he then practiced. He died in the 1830,s at age 83.
I have extensive records from Ireland which are in the process of being catalogued. There were several William Guy's the dates given against William Guy in your list do not appear to tally however it is quite likely that he is not the same person. Will be back in touch when I have some more concrete information.

My Guy family (1830 - 1940) seems to be from S. England -- Sussex and London -- I noticed a TON of Guys buried in the yard of Chiddingly Parish Church, and some of them are related.

Gift Guy was an interesting name that I found there -- I think may be related. I believe there are descendents with
this name still living. One in British Columbia, Canada I believe?

Specifically I am searching for family of William Thomas Mewett Guy, b. Jan. 1854 in London and emigrated to Ontario, Canada in mid 1880's. His parents were Thomas Guy and Sarah or Martha Mewett, Sarah/Martha was born in March of 1831, in Lewes, Sussex and died in 1936, at age 105 in London, England. Of course I can't get a death certificate just yet!! She is buried in Highgate Cemetery in London -- a
very interesting place!!

Any relatives or if you've found info on these people,
*please* correspond.

A wonderful web site! Thank you!

How many Guy-lines can there be? I've only just started my research and am limited to my Grandparents on down. They are: Stanley Warren Guy and Cecil Aleen Dye. Their children are Jack Warren, Frances, Robert Stanley, & Bette. Our history has been mostly in Texas for the 1900's. I'm not sure before that. A small bell rings about stories of the family coming from Virginia. But wouldn't bet on it.

Comments:
Do you have any family history on your James J. Larkin sr, (Born in Pa. in 1870)? I am trying to find a few Larkin ancestors that came from West Limerick Ireland to the US in about the 1840's. Their Parents were James Larkin and Ellen O'Connell. Any possible connections?
I have Buckley connections in Ireland but can't locate them on your page. My Donaghue connections are from West Limerick.
Also - I like the Layout of your web page. What Genealogy program did you use to provide the listings? I wish to finally publish my family history (including photo's etc.) but want to exclude any birthdate information on any one still living and exclude other than the year on their parents' births. I have looked into many genealogy web page producing programs but did not find any suitable. Yours appears to be from Family Tree Maker, with modifications for background name inclusion. That program attempted to control my genealogy work as their own. I use Personal Ancestral File as my database, and others for chart printing etc. But I like the way your came out.

It was interesting and curious. My great - grandfather was Timothy E. Donahue who was married to Elizabeth Buckley and they are in the 1860 Cook County Census. At that time they had one child Daniel - so my grandfather, John hadn't been born. The curious aspect is that it mentions a Josephine Donahue and my dad Thomas (Tim) Donahue married my mom Josephine (Sniegowski) and so she was Josephine Donahue, but not the one mentioned. Anyway from what I have found out my grand - father was a mystery inside a puzzle but thanks for the site.

I'm looking for info on my grandmother and her relatives.
Her maiden name was Shirley Marie Guy. I don't know who her
parents were, but I did get a copy of her and my grandfather's marriage lis. and listed as her father is Hathi E. Guy(to the best I can make out, it's hand written).
Someone told me she was of Irish decent. I know she was raised by a couple in Hollywood,CA. Can you be of any help?
