I am in the process of tracking down my ancestors. This is a project which I began 5+ years ago, and I am now putting more in more effort to constructing the history on ancestry.com. I am tracking down the Sullivan, Keene, Leland, Mills, Hoffecker, Covey, Dudley and many other related families. We communicated earlier via email etc. Site looks great with much effort on your part, no doubt.

Thank you for compiling this information. I find it fascinating.

In Generation Five, your #73, Emma Leland, married to James Culton, were my maternal great grandparents. Their children were:
#151 James Leland Culton, my grandfather, died 1988.
and #152 Evelyn, my great aunt. My cousin, her daughter, Betsy Jordan, is still alive.

#151 James Leland Culton married Mary Elizabeth Hibbert (went by "Elizabeth")
They had two children:
James Edward Culton, born 1923, died 1996 without children.
Geraldine Elizabeth Culton Mitchell Troy, born 1927, still alive. She had two daughters and a stepson.

Please let me know if you would like more or other information about the Cultons, and whatever I can find about the Lelands.

Thank you.

I recently resumed my research on my family tree. I am wondering if anyone out there knows anything about a John Snowden, presumably in northern Indiana who married a woman with the last name Ambler. My best guess for the time period is the 1860s/1870s. They had a daughter named Emma Catherine Snowden, born Sept. 11, 1892 in Union City, Huntington County, Indiana. I am the granddaughter of Emma Catherine.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help me.

I recently submitted a paper to the lancaster County Historical Society in Pennsylvania concerning a beautiful statue purchased in 1907 from Leland & Hall company of New York. Would this be youe William Wirt Leland married to Edith P ? I found him in Vermont in 1905 associated with the Rock of Ages granite quarry in Graniteville Vermont, but his residence was listed as New York. I found them on the 1920 census in Manhattan, New York, but have been unable to locate them on the 1900 or 1910 censuses. Also did he have a son William who worked as a draftsman for a marble company in Vermont? I have pictures of the statue if you are interested. There are many ghost stories about this statue locally so I took it upon myself to dig for the facts.

Hi Rick

It looks like you and I are the only two people in the world who have run into the same brick wall in our genealogy search. (Other than some random posts in message boards to the effect that people “don’t know who those Missouri Lee’s are descended fromö.

I am referring to your Kendall Lee, born in 1807 who is my great great great grandfather.

Neither of us has apparently found his parents. I can’t believe it can be that hard.

My website is http://www.myheritage.com/site-353573/lee-web-site

Please let me know if you have any ideas – as it seems your research is quite thorough and that you have more experience than I.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi Rick!

My great grandmother was Mabel Leland, born in 1886. Before age 4 she was an orphan. Her mother had died in childbirth and her father was a graduate from a medical school in Philadelphia, though she thought he'd been a dentist. The father's 'death' (disappearance) is a bit fuzzy. She remembered two "maiden aunts" who were 'too old to care for her' resulting in her being sent away. She was put in foster care, working the farms from such a young age. We have one picture of her around age six with her favorite foster mother, Mrs. Jones. She went on to move to NYC and married James Conlon. Mabel had eight children to ensure 'they would never be alone.' Needless to say there are quite a few of us in the New York, Delaware and Pennsylvania areas. I wish I knew more to tell you. If you have any insights I'd would greatly appreciate it.

Best Regards,
Judith Cooper Preston

Fabricius Baldwin Mathews Leland was my GG Grandfather. My grandmother was Mary Mildred Mills who married Jennings Mace Keene in Dorchester County Maryland. Both the Keene and Mace names also form some rather interesting historical paths to follow. I haven't checked to see if there is a Dudley connection to the Leland name from my family but the deeper you dig the tighter the cnnections seem to be.

Hello... I am enjoying your website... If you have information, I am on a mission...

Looking for the Parents and ancestors of William W. Vinson b1818 in Union Cty, SC. I think his father was possibly a brother of the James who married Rhoda Sperry. Supposedly this James had brothers in SC.

William W. Vinson b c1818 in Union County SC. subsequently married Winny ______ b.1824 in SC. and in the mid-1840's they moved to Limestone County, Alabama and started a family. Their son William W.Vinson b.1848(Ala) and eventually moved to Bosque Cty, Texas in 1870. Other children of William W. and Winny include Nancy b1846; Susanna b 1850; Sarah

In the 1850 Census for Limestone Cty, Alabama, they lived near Allen N. Vinson b.1812 SC (son of Nathan/Nancy Garner) and wife Mary Payne Vinson b c1826 & family

William W.(the 1st) appears in the roll of the Alabama 45th Infantry. This regiment suffered high fatality rates during the war. W.W. may not have survived for he does not appear in any Census following the Civil War.

Because of the information you provided on Agness C. Woodfin, wife of George Fisher, I was able to trace my family from Robert "King" Carter (and from Pocahontas in another line)to the present. I went to the Powhatan County courthouse and found the info I needed on Agness. George Fisher was elusive. A book on the Powhatan Co, Va, bicentennial celebration told me he was a mechanical engineer killed in a landslide but no where/when. Finally, I found the specifics at the Library of Virginia. Because of all the information I was able to unearth, I am the newest member of the Jamestowne Society....and right before Jamestowne celebrates its 400th anniversary. Yeah! Thank you for the lead...

My mom (now 81) is interested in finding out more about her relatives and their roots. She is the grandaughter of Julia Leland Telford of Wymore, Nebraska. Her father was Thomas J. Leland, born 1823. He served in the Civil War and was a circuit preacher after the war. I've just begun my search and noticed some Leland's in your family tree that were in Wymore ..... any connection?

What I know is meager:

Thomas J. Leland b. July 7, 1823, d. Feb 11, 1891, buried in Wymore Cemetery (have ordered his Obit from the library)

Children of Thomas:
Julia, b 1-9-1876, d 10-7-1959
Eddie, d 9-10-1887
George, b 2-11-1872, d. 3-23-1938
Mary, unknown dates

Thomas married Sarah Von Hennsey (sp?) and she married after his death and became Sarah Wilkins.

Anyway, it's a start !!

How long have you been interested in genealogy? about 1 year, I am still learning...
Comments:
To whom it may concern:
I know that you get tired of hearing from people with questions... but if you don't mind I would like to run something past you. What I have learned from family members (some of which are still living) is that there were three brothers that came to AL from NC. The three were named Thomas (born <1811>) John (born <1814>) and William (??). I have them listed in the 1850 and 1860 census records of Barbour County, AL. I do not have access
to Ancestry.com or any search engine that costs money, but I do look up people in Rootsweb.com and Familysearch.com.
I have been trying to find a family in NC that had three children with these names. Every time I find a connection it seems to come back to a John Alexander Kennedy, son of David Kennedy, and I run into your family listings.
In the census records of Barbour county and in the 1880 census records, each time the dates of these people seem right. So I am fairly sure that their birthdates are around this time period. I do not know their full names..so it is possible that you are just calling them by another name. I also know that there are several family names that are the same as in your group. Such as we had an Enoch Kennedy that died a while back. I know his
family well. My grand father was also John Kennedy (1896 in AL) and his father was a Lazarus Kennedy (1871 in AL) and his father was a Houston Spencer Kennedy
(1841 in NC) and his father was this John Kennedy born in 1814 in N C. I believe that maybe this John, Thomas and William were all children of John Alexander Kennedy and Sallie Williamson. If not - I still believe that they are
the sons of some other brother... I know that there are several connections to this family listed in the census records of Barbour County. If you feel like I am on the right track or if you can help me in any way, It would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter. I appreciate any and all suggestions. Thanks again. Brenda Kennedy

Your website is very interesting. I just recently found our connection to Joseph McLester and I came here seeking information.

My ggg grandmother was Francis "Fanny" Van Hoose, she married Abraham Worley (son of George Worley born circa. 1760 in Rowan Co, NC). They raised their family in Hardin County, TN. Fanny was the daughter of John Van Hoose (born Circa. 1780) who was son of Valentine "Felty" Van Hoose (born circa. 1755) and Rebecca McLester. Rebecca was the daughter of Joseph McLester.

I was blessed to know my g grandmother, Fannie Belle Worley Moore who was born in Hardin Co, TN in 1877. She rode side-saddle/southern style and was a fascinating lady. I have been thrilled to piece together her pedigree over the years and discover a rich history along the way, starting with her father's war service (Isaac Perry Worley; Co.G, 1st Tennessee Infantry,CSA) back to her gg grandfather's Revolutionary War service (Valentine "Felty" Van Hoose reportedly fought under "Swamp Fox" Francis Marion).

I have just started compiling notes on Valentine & Rebecca (McLester) Van Hoose. Thank you for your informative website. I was thrilled to find the McLester information.

I enjoyed the article about the Drish house. I have an interest in Dr. John Drish. It seems that my grtgrtgrt grandmother Virginia Susan Caldwell married John Ulmer Molette in her uncle's house- Dr. John Drish of Tuscloosa (sp?) Al in the 1840's or so (I don't have the year in front of me). This information was suppose to have been provided by a wedding announcement a fellow research sent me some years ago. Susan Caldwell Molette named one of her sons John Drish Molette. Susan Caldwell was born in VA. I had thought Dr. Drish was her blood uncle but now realize that perhpas he was her uncle by marriage--Ummm!
Again thanks for the article and the new tibit of information.
It is also ironic that the Molette family was connected to Cochrane famiy - one of Susan's grandaughters maried a Cochrane. And also connected tothe Saffold family. It seems all the families mentioned was involved in Alabama politics and seemed to relatively wealthy.
Again Thanks

Great site. I located the pedigree of Hezekiah Jones on your site but could not make the connection to the Leland family. Do you have a source validating Hezekiah's father, gfather, and ggfather Robert? My source indicated this as a possibility but could not prove it. I am a descendant of Hezekiah and Mary Ann Jones. Thank you,

I'm not sure if you would really be interested in some additional information that I have, but I wanted to offer. My ggggggrandfather was John "Redbuck" Chisholm. His daughter Louise Jane Chisholm is a decendant of yours. I found your World Tree on Ancestry.com and found your information about her children, grandchildren, etc. to be very helpful in my search for more descendants of the Chisholm's. I have alot of information about the other 12 children of John "Redbuck's" if you would like to add any of that to your history. If not I understand, but I know I enjoy finding out as much as I possibly can about my family heritage. Thank you again for your kindness of the information. Take care and best of luck on all your future searching. Sincerely, Christine Lindley, Missouri, USA

I have some information about Emma Leland (my maternal great grandmother) ("Generation Five"). She married James Edward Culton. Her wedding invitation is dated 1893. Emma and James had a son JAMES Leland Culton and a daughter, my great aunt Evelyn. James Leland Culton married Mary Elizabeth Hibbert, who is still living (102 years of age) in Knoxville, Tennessee. She is my grandmother.

James Leland Culton and Mary Elizabeth Hibbert had a son, James Edward Culton, and a daughter (my mother) Geraldine Elizabeth Culton (now Troy).

Thank you for all your hard work collecting this information. It is a comfort knowing my heritage.

My Larkin Howard and Lucretia Watts Jones and their family left NC in 1869 due to the War. They stopped in Mo due to lack of money.

Their son my grandfather married Jane J Callahan whose maternal grandmother, Mary Conway Conway lost her husband due to dy, I think, in Shannon Co, Mo. I think that her son William was killed also. Mary then married a Haile in Iron Co.

Comments:

I was delighted to find your site. My interested is the story of my home town of Portarlington, Ireland. In 1999 I published a small book on the subject which has an item on Miss Hennrieta Lalande (d'Aulnis). I have copies of some of Hennrieta's school bills for one of her pupils and maybe some letters. I would like to hear from you and if I could have your postal address will gladly send you a compliamentry copy of my book etc.
In 1991 we had a visit from Baron and Baroness D'Aulnis de Bourouill, The Hague. Do you know if they are both well and still living at the same address as in '91 ? I have only recently rediscovered a letter they sent after their visit and I should like to reply to same.
Our church still has the original Huguenot registers, which I am sure would be of interest to you.
By the way I was born in the same house where Hennrieta lived. This I believe was rebuilt by her father in 1710. Saddly it is at present in rather poor condition. I would gladly send out copies of photos etc. of the old Lalande home
Looking forward to your reply
Regards. Ronnie Mathews.

How did you find this site? Looking for Madora PARKER nee LELAND
How can I improve it? I don't really know. It's great!
How long have you been interested in genealogy? Interested? Always. SERIOUSLY interested? A couple of years.
Comments:
Hello there, I believe I have something to add here. Some children were left out from Madora LELAND and John W. PARKER. One of the children left out is my great-great-grandmother Amy Katherine PARKER and her subsequent children. According to Church records of Baptisms on Hoopers Island, Maryland the following children were born to John W. & Madora PARKER (dates shown are dates of baptism) - Amy Katherine (3 Aug 1884), Freddie William (21 Aug 1892), Johnson G. (5 Jul 1886), Lanlie Jane [that name is probably transcribed incorrectly] (30 Oct 1888), Lillie Rebecca (Aug 1895), and Matthew (28 May 1897).

According to those same records, Madora LELAND PARKER died "in faith" 23 May 1897. This seems to indicate that she died giving birth to Matthew. And since I've seen no further mention of Matthew, he is assumed to have died as well.

Ok. So, then Amy Katherine PARKER married Charles (who is sometimes listed as Brenton, and sometimes as Charles Brenton, sometimes as Charles Branty, sometimes as Charles Breuty... boy those Hoopers Island people loved to fool with the spelling) AARON. They had one child Beulah AARON (b.19 Nov 1901, d. Feb 1983). This info from Delayed Birth Registration records of Dorchester County. Charles drowned in 1905 and Amy subsequently married Frederick G. TYLER. with him had one son, Carl Aloicious TYLER.

Anyway, Beulah AARON is my great-grandmother. She had one son, Reecie AARON (b. 13 Feb 1920). Reecie's father is a big mystery. She never would say. She later married Joe Hansen and had a daughter, Elizabeth Hansen.

Reecie (my grandfather) married Anne JUBA of Pennsylvania. They lived in Philadelphia and had one son Robert Lewis AARON (b.2 Jan 1944). He married my mother Patricia Ann McGUIRE of Marquette, Michigan and had 2 children: Kristin Marie AARON (b. 28 May 1968) [that's me!] and Sheri Ann AARON (b. 28 Jun 1971). Robert and Patricia divorced and Robert married Leokadia DROZDOWSKI (originally from Poland) they had one son Erik Robert AARON (b. 13 May 1981).

I haven't had any children, but Sheri married James GREENHOUGH and has Heather Ann GREENHOUGH (b. Oct 1991) and Michael Aaron GREENHOUGH (b. Aug 1999). And Erik has one son, Scott Aaron (b. Oct 2001).

That was a rather long-winded guest-book entry! Hello Cousins! If you or anyone has any questions, feel free to e-mail me.

Kristin Aaron

I love your opinion pages on Trent Lott, Eloquently, I agree with you and thought the same. We live in Al and Husband works in MS, Ingalls Shipbuilding. Trent has done a lot for the Defense Industry and thus Technology as a whole. Without the Defense Industry we would probably not be enjoying this internet and computer technology to day.
WE Must be kin, I am kin to the Lee.I also agree with your
opinion on United Airlines. I lost my job after 9-11 because
United couldnot Afford to keep the Chicago to Mobile Contract.3 Flights a day, 2 to Chicago, 1 to Dulles the Nations Capital area direct from Mobile. And then THe return trips. They could not afford to keep 3 hardworking individuals per flight,(other airlines had 6 for the same type of Aircraft the 50 Seat Express Jet which operates more economically then the big ones). What kinda of politics are here.As to the Comestic question I totally agree with that. It is the Corporate Companies themselves that propagate that industry by dictating that women are not dressed without their makeup and their panty hose.My favorite Person is the Continental Woman employee that sued over the lipstick issue and won the right to go barefaced by her choice and got it taken out of the dress code as being sexist.Which makes me wonder how much stock the big companies have in that industry. The battles that were fought for freedom and independance, lives lost seems today that many still do not have the right to individuality in those matters of a personal nature, but the people of the Moslim Religion are allowed to wear their clothing in addition to their uniforms, and take all their prayer breaks
no matter when and where at United Airlines. What about me when I want to pray or have Sunday or anyother day off to worship.Something is wrong in the Airline Business in many ways that led to the current state of affairs beginning with deregulation starting with JFK and Carter. Something of National Security should not have been left to corporate Bureaucrats.
I love your flag display as I have a similar sentiment on my site. And have sentiments in regards to the Southernstates taking it down in that face of all the Political correctness. It represents many of my forebears and if people that call it racist would realize that Black and White side by site fought the war in the South. How long did it take the US Fed Government to properly recognize Black Soldiers? AS you say the British Flag,
And the FRENCH brought slaves to the South after it was banned. Coming from Mobile where we have seen the city exist under 5 flags, The Spanish, French, British, US, and Confederacy, there is much to understand by those who rant against the flags then just the sentiment take it down.
I apprecite your efforts to put good Lee info on the web
and standing up for your principles

Thanks for making this site available.
My g-g-grandparents are: Eli Noble and Elizabeth McClain. They lived in Johnson Co., Clark Twp., Indiana.
When I was born in 1934 Indianapolis, Marion Co., Indiana, Grandma Noble was still alive. She died in 1936. Grandpa Noble passed away in 1922. Both are buried in the Greenwood Cemetery.
When I was born their were five generations on both my Mother's side and also on my Father's side. Grandma Noble was on my mother's side.
I only knew Grandma Noble's father's name. You have two more generations back on Grandma Noble's side and you also had her mother information, which I didn't have.
Thanks again for making available.
If you are interested in any of their descendants, I would be willing to share that information.

You had replied to a Brittain researcher and sent to Bryon Brown. Do you have Brittain ancestors also. I have been to the Guilford Library but did not know about Miss Joseph. Why would the Brittains be in the Hunt Family records. We can not find any record that James was a Quaker other that one listing where he attended a wedding. Our ancestor Daniel Britton moved after the war over to TN. We think but can not prove that James is father of Daniel. My sister has been to the Winchester, VA area and researched for James as he lived there before Rowan-Guilford Co.

I am searching for the ancestors of John D. Leland. (I think the middle initial is "D") He was born in OH in 1846, but was a resident of IN since childhood. He resided in Miami County for at least part of his life. He married Martha C. Misner b. 1857 and d 1899. I think he was a member of the Army of the Potomac and GAR.

I would appreciate any information that you could provide if you think he may be a part of your Leland family.

Your site is amazing. I'm sure that you have logged many, many hours of research on this project. It's well done.

I have a Cole family into which a Susanna Leland married in Massachusetts. I know another Cole researcher whose father's middle name was Leland. Just looking for connections, where there may be none. Although there may be no physical connections, emotional ones may be there. I know of an Abel Cole, who married a Susanna Leland, in Sutton, Worcester county, MASS. Able Cole's father was Ezekiel Cole who is known to have been an evangelist during the great revival.

There are Lelands in that county in MASS. Plus a friend has an ancestor who was an Abel Leland Cole. Looking for connections.

I found your site in search of the Ewell/Yewell's in my family.

I'm looking for the ancestors of my great grandmother, Linda Elizabeth Yewell, daughter of Harrison...son of Martin...son of James. At James we have the Ewell or Yewell's going back into lines. Charles Ewell and Thomas Youell.....both from the 1600"s. Any information you would like to share would be gratefully appreciated. This is a very confusing and frustrating search. I have Ewell's (Yewell's) marrying Ewells...and the missing link seems to be at James....father of Martin.

Thank you for your time spent reading this.

My Mother was a Thornton and was left 2 biographies of the Thornton family. I set out to prove or disprove what was in them. I had never found descendants of Levi Calvin McKee Thornton until Nov.2000 when Ann Bender found me on the internet. I am a widow now. My husband was Col. Robert A. Jackson-Professor of Air Science at the University of Ala. from July 1970 to July 1973. My daughter, Susan was a close friend of Jean Leland of Northwood Lake. My son graduated from the University of Ala., married Denise Rye and they are now living in Tuscaloosa. His name is Thomas Thornton Jackson. So, I do feel a close connection to Tuscaloosa. Passed by the Drish House on my visit there last year and it seemed to be in good shape. In 1970s it was in bad condition.

My husband is descended from Maria Leland (John, John) #7 - who married, by the way to John EUSTACE, not William, according to the family records compiled a long time ago. My husband's descent comes from John Conroy EUSTACE and Maria LELAND through William Conway EUSTACE and Mary Landon Tomlin; Anne Carter (Nannie) EUSTACE and William FELLOWES; William FELLOWES and Harriet DAVIS, Harriet FELLOWES and Frederick TOWNSEND, Sarah Rathbone TOWNSEND to my husband. I'm just getting to this research after years of doing my own family's. . .Thank you immensely for your interesting information.

Hi

Allthough my interest is only a passing one at the moment, it was great to find your site. Well Done !!

I do know that I am a decendant of John Leland who was Drogheda Sheriff in about 1723. That is about as far as it goes for me, but i will probably investigate further.

All the best.

Hello Rick! I don't know if we are related, but I think maybe so! I have been dabbling in my family history for half my life (I am 41), but just last weekend I had a chance to see a binder of wonderful stuff from another family member who has been working on the Lelands--and I am consumed once again with this "bug." I have a lot of information and materials but I don't know what to do with it, and you seem like someone who WOULD know.

I have a photocopy of "The Leland Magazine..." but not an original. I see you are transcribing it on the web, for which I am so grateful. I am searching for an original book, which is kind of how I found you. My father is one of that long line of confusing Sherman Lelands and Edwin Sherman Lelands. (I am fairly new to the technicalities of genealogy, so please excuse my ignorance of proper terms. I am also writing this without any genealogy charts in front of me, so I may be remembering some things backwards. I can look up anything you need later for best accuracy.)

Anyway, the man who wrote "The Leland Magazine" was definitely my great, great, great grandfather. Unbelievably, I have the author's (Sherman Leland's) old Samuel Johnson 1801 dictionary. It is very beat up, the leather binding almost gone, but on the inside front cover, along with what seem to be faded schoolboy scribbles in pencil, is Sherman Leland's inked signature, which matches perfectly with one I found on an old photo. I like to think he used this dictionary when he was working on the "magazine." It's not a first edition of that dictionary, but still fascinating just to look through.

I found this dictionary about 10 years ago in a box that belonged to my grandmother. It was dusty and filled with photographs, books, a family bible, papers. Almost all of thi stuff was totally unlabeled, and many of the photographs are not identified. The Bible belonged to Lelands and listed some family members and deaths. I only remember one name, Dauphin, in that list. He died when he was 15 (of tuberculosis, I read later elsewhere). Pressed within the pages of the Bible was a small envelope, and inside was a tiny, fragile paper doll--I think it was of a black child or a Sambo type figure--and on the back was written "Dauphin's doll." Surely his mother put it there.

The photos in the box seem to be mostly of Hoods and Powells. Possibly some of those things would be of interest to you, or you would know who should get them. I had a great, great grandmother named Anna Mabel Hood, who married an Edwin Sherman Leland.

My father's name is Edwin Sherman Leland, his father was Howard Leland, whose father was Edwin Sherman Leland (married to Mabel, soldier in the Civil War for three years), whose father was Sherman Leland (who owned the dictionary), whose father was Edwin Sherman Leland. Very confusing! Have you ever read Gabriel Garcia Marquez's novel One Hundred Years of Solitude? The genealogies in that novel remind me of my family, since in each generation, the males all seem to get variations of the same name.

I think it was Sherman's son (Edwin S. Leland) who was a soldier in the Civil War, and the diary he wrote was passed down to my father. It's in a safe deposit box now. I also have some letters written between father and son that are impossible to read because of the script. These have not been transcribed, but the diary is written in pencil, so it's much easier to read. However, I doubt it will photocopy at all because the printing is so light. My aunt plans to start work transcribing the diary soon.

Does it damage old papers to photocopy them? I don't have a scanner for my computer (nor am I very computer literate, although I am learning) but is scanning safer for the document? How should the diary and the other papers be stored? Shouldn't the diary be donated to a museum eventually? I think it's author was from Ottawa, Ill. where the Lelands seem to have been quite a prosperous and notable family.

My family is just perfectly ordinary now--not wealthy or prominent, but still adventurous and free-thinking, I hope. In my family there are three siblings: my brother Edwin Sherman Leland Jr. (his new son, named Ryan Jacob Leland, is apparently the last of the line); James Jeffrey Leland, a photographer /mountain climber/ musician; and the oldest (me) Kathryn Ann Leland, married twice but always kept my own name, which turned out to be just as well once I got divorced. I have one son, Weston Leland Templeton, a real wild man who's six years old.

So, Rick, it's been great to communicate with you! I am hard at work right now in my job (I am an English professor at a community college), but once I get some free time between semesters, I'd like to pursue some genealogical issues. I don't know about these Virginia Lelands, but perhaps there's a link somewhere in the records I have. I haven't had a chance to read everything on your website yet, but certainly I will let you now if I find anything.

Thanks so much for all your hard work and your sense of mission--family is forever, yes?

Sincerely,
Kathy Leland

Rich, you have been really busy. Nice job. I haven't done too much lately, although I found a lot of the history of the Stevens family. Three of the Lelands were married to Stevens: Baldwin Jr., JAC, and Judith. The Stevens were original pioneers into Ohio from Stamford, CT.

I've attached a copy of the JACL document that may be of use to you. You should be able to open it. If not, let me know, and tell me what word processing program you are using.

Minor point. I believe that you should refer to JACL as JACL, II. He was the grandson of JAC from VA. The picture I sent you was the Ohio home of JAC from VA.

Keep up the good work. Bob

Thanks for visiting my site. Yes! you never know we may be long lost cousins. The Leyland name (and variations) did originally originate from the Lancashire area (Manchester, Wigan, etc}, but during the English industrial revolution alot of people living in the country moved into the towns and cities to get better employment and mine just moved to Stoke-On-Trent. My Earliest ancestor, ADAM LEYLAND was last recorded in Wem, Shropshire in 1770 but nothing after that. If you happen to come across any information please let me know. Alot of potters moved to New Liverpool in the U.S.A. to work in the pottery industry there. You never know some of my relatives may have moved there. Anyway thanks alot.

This is great. You have taken on a big job!!
I am also a descendant of John Leland I &2, Baldwin Matthews Leland, Sarah Moore Leland & Amos Wiley, Eliza Wiley & Charles J. Potter, Vallean Potter & Frank Herbert Mann, Roberta Louise Mann & Cleo Edward Godwin. I can provide these later documentations for your records, if you want, as well as a correction for the date of death of Vallean Potter, and some additional dates of marriages etc. in that line.
