My Jankes settled in the Township of Hamburg, Marathon County, Wisconsin in 1869 (Friedrich and second wife, Sophie Koll (Koeller)(?). I keep looking as he is my step great great grandfather. Interesting reading as I toured this area in 1996. I am now helping a friend do her research on a Hugo Peters! Hope to hear from you.

Just thought it was interesting to read about your maternal line. My family is from Powhatan County. They owned Norwood and Elioch, two plantation homes in Petersburg Va. They must have known each other since I have found almost nothing to reference the fact that A. F. Jahnke even made sterling flatware. Maybe he made it for my family as a special order. My great grandmother Constance Kents (whom I'm named after by the way) initial is monogrammed on the piece.

I just wanted to tell you that I really enjoyed the way you have presented your family information. I am just getting started. I am able to get considerable information on my maiden name of Trudeau (those French were very good a keeping records) but am totally stumped by my Mother's gggrandmother Harriet Newel Benson born in 1840 in Maryland. She married George Washington Byrnes of Illinois in 1866, that much I know but it stops there I do not know anything more about her line of Benson's and there are so many of them. I live in Southern California and getting to Maryland is not that easy. Keep up your good work, I love the way you write. Sorry that you lost your wife so eary in life, she looked like a lovely person.

A very moving tribute to a sadly-missed wife. Yours sounds to be a rock-solid family. Strangely, I went recently to the funeral service of a Doctor Ben (Grantham) who sang in our little Church choir, and was the MD to myson's School for many years. Keep the site right up to date, Ben, congratulations.

I have been researching about the same length of time that you have. I am in First Families of TN with John Miller Isbill. I had the Zachariah info, but lacked the documentation to feel comfortable submitting it to their experts.
I have a great deal of info on the Monroe Co., TN families that I have accumulated over the years. And I know about all there is to know about the group that came to McLennan Co., TX.

My great-grandmother was Susie Elvira Isbill West. She came with her parents to TX in a covered wagon just after the War (CA 1870) when she was about 8 yrs. old. She lived to be 87, and I remember her very well. Her father, Rev. Martin Isbill, came to TX to preach and he founded a number of churches and brought some other preachers to fill their pulpits. He and Harriett Allen Weaver Isbill brought most of their Isbill and Weaver children to Texas with them. They have since spread far and wide, but I do have contact with many cousins from MD to CA.

I would be happy to correspond with you concerning this family and to share information on our branch.

Thank you for the work you have done. And keep on searchin'.

Hi Doc,

My Nortons lived in Bracken Co., KY between 1823 and 1925, with a detour to Oldham Co. between 1827 and 1833 and Jefferson Co. between 1833 and 1847. My Great Great Grandfather, William W. Norton was born in CT between 1790 and 1800. In 1823 he bought land in Bracken Co. I believe he was a bondsman for a marriage in Jefferson Co. in 1824 in an area near Oldham and Shelby Co.'s. He used his middle initial in a lot of transaction probably because there were so many William Nortons around at the time. He married Elizabeth WOODWARD in 1826 in Bracken Co. I have all the land, tax and census records I could find for William, but I still don't know where in CT he was born, who his parents are or if he had any other family members in Kentucky. William died between 1857 and 1866 whereabouts unknown. He was not living with his family as of 1848. A Tevis S. NORTON was a witness to the marriage of his daughter, Sarah E. to Joseph NORRIS in 1865 in Bracken Co. but I have no idea who Tevis is. William and Elizabeth's children: Albert Woodward b. 1830 d. 1853-1857; Mary Ann b. 1832 d. bet. 1900 and 1911 m. Leonard WHITCOMB; Silas Woodward b. 1837 d. 1903 m. India CHAPMAN; Sarah E. b. 1839 d. 1919 m. Joseph NORRIS; Susanna b. 1841 d. aft. 1850. If any of these names sound familiar, I'd appreciate hearing from you. Or I hope I was able to explain a few stray Nortons you may have run across. Thanks. Barbara
