What surnames are you researching? Elkins/Batson
Did you find my site helpful? yes
Comments:
I need to correct my previous entry-I was totally confused and just got things cleared up with my brother who's memory is better. Judith and Jane were not the daughters of Ben Batson-they were the daughters of Harold Elkins, who lived in Shelbyville. My father was a first cousin of Lucille Batson. We visited Ben Batson when I was little and and went back after his death and were caught in the middle of a tornado. I remember seeing lots of oilwells and Lucille left my brother and oil well and he still gets checks. My brother vividly remembers his home and reminded me that we also we also went to vidit his son Danny in Knoxville. So I had the Batsons and the Elkins mixed up up. Judith and Jane Elkins raised chimps and had a huge cage next to their home. I am doing family research on my father's side My grandmother was named Alberta Clare Elliot. I am trying to determine the connection between Elkins, Elliots and Batson. But my bother and I are second cousins to Lucille. Any help appreciated!

Comments:
Hi, Connie,

I stumbled across your site while researching my great grandmother, Zillah H. Mann. Her father, Joseph C. Mann, was married 3x. Zillah's birth mother, as you know, was Joeline. Joeline died in 1877. Joseph married Isabel (no last name). She appears in the censuses with Joseph from 1879 thru 1885 (Pierce County, New Tacoma, Washington Territory). In the 1889 Pierce County census, she appears with her daughter by Joseph and Zillah's twin sister. Your records show that he then married Louisa C. Graham in 1887.

I'd love to correspond and compare notes.

Yours in the family,
Lou

What surnames are you researching? Birks/Mann
Did you find my site helpful? Yes

HI
I have been researching the Birks/Mann famlies for some years and believe there is a connection to Roland Horsley Birks. He was in the same vicinity as Richard and Jeremia in South Carolina and also Georgia. He is on deeds with Jeremia in Georgia about 1800. I have copies somewhere.

It is also possible that the mother of Cynthia Birks, born 1821, is the daughter of Richard's second wife Rhoda Pipes. Needs more research.

I have not done much with my family files for some time but do intend to get busy and bring things up to date. I would be happy to see any comments you may have.

As a fellow "seacher," thank you for all the work you've done on this line. It's wonderful and you've sure made my life easier, especially with your careful documentation! FYI...we have a photo album of old Batson Family pictures (probably from the 1930s & 1940s) taken in Indiana and Illinois, I think, that have no names on them at all! We have no way to identify them.

My husband descends from William Marshall Batson, son of Benjamin Batson, and Rosa Jane Reed.

Does anyone have a complete "book" on Bethel Cemetery? I had heard that some years back, a tornado damaged or blew away some of the grave markers. Is that true? I have visited it a few times as I have Seifert releatives buried there, among which is a great-great grandfather, Peter John "P.J." Seifert 1860 - 1953, with his second and third wives. I am looking for a Hulda and Charles Allison there with some children. They reportedly died in early 1880s.

Connie,
I am a librarian at the Family History Center in Klamath Falls, Oregon. I was assigned a research project on behalf of Harry David "Andy" Andersen (of Klamath Falls). His father was John Wesley Anderson, born 10 Feb 1882 in Smith Center, Smith County, Kansas.

I found your web site extremely helpful. I have given "Andy" a little information and have advised him to write to you for any additional information he may desire.

Unfortunately, I have been unable to locate a snail-mail address for you. If you are willing, will you please send me an e-mail with your mailing address, and I will give it to Mr. Andersen along with the packet I am preparing for him. He may or may not contact you -- I don't know.

Thank you for your kind consideration,

Louise Hustead

What a nice web site! I don't usually sign the guest books but this one was nice enough for comment.

I'm looking for information about my grandmother Bertha CLARK from Phelps Co. Missouri. Her first husband, my grandfather, was John BROOKSHIRE. Her second husband was Norman MORRIS of St. Louis.

What I'd really like to know is more about their divorce in the 1920s. Then Bertha actually had the nerve to remarry. How daring it all was. There must be a story behind it.

Norman had two children--Pauline and Hiram--who were about the same age. His first wife's name was Wynoa and she was born in 1878. He and Bertha were both born in 1888. I got all this from the 1920 St. Louis, MO census and the 1930 Rolla, Phelps, MO census.

I met Norman when I was about 3 years old and vaguely remember him. It would be interesting to know more aobut him.

What surnames are you researching? stennett
Did you find my site helpful? somewhat... a surprise!
Comments:
I think our stennetts are related, i am descended from a benjamin merritt stennett whose father was born in amherst virginia in 1792, from there he married an elizabeth ann matthews and they had several children, of which benjamin merritt stennett jr was born in 1829 in mississippi, he married sarah finch in 1857 and they had benjamin merrit stennett 3rd in 1872 or 73 not sure, his little brother Charles Hyatt Stennett born in 1879/80 was my g-g-grandfather. They came to texas when the boys were grown teenagers. But yes i believe we are distantly related, i have found that benjamin was a stennett family name handed down.

Based on Census records, I believe the Asa Dickerson on your site is my Great Great Great Grandfather. He and his wife were born in PA and I'm trying to find more information about where they are from and how to find their parents' names. I'm thinking they were from Washington Co, PA. Asa was born abt 1798 and according to the 1800 census all but one of the Dickerson families lived in Washington county. I'm building a website for information about cemeteries. It's still being built, but check it out. It's at davesgraves.info.

We actually live in Smidie, I live in Nørregaard, and by my side is my neighbour who lives in a farm previously called Skomagersminde, "memory of shoemaker". Maybe one of the shoemakers mentioned here lived there.

Hi Connie:
Thank you ever so much for this site... What an inspiration to all storytellers.... and researchers of days gone by...

I am a Canadian, born of an American mother 65 years ago.... I have always said, my mother married a Canadian but left her heart on American soil...

I have been researching my mother's family lines...Prescott's, Vaughans, Towns, Yates & Louderbaugh's..

Prescott & Vaughn line has been so easy.... The only info I seem to have on g.g.grandmother is her name was Lida or Lyda Yates... It is on this side of the family, that they claimed we were related to one of the Mayflower passengers... also on the Yates side... Daniel Boone's brother Edwards wife Martha? Gr.Gr. gramma married a George Louderbaugh in Pennsylvania.... Would this be the right Yates line???
Thank you for all your inspiration...

This is an addendum/correction to comments just made in this matter. Correction-email address for aol.com; addendum-noticed that some Garrisons of Stephen Garrison's family buried in Zion Church of Christ, Parish, AL. Would anyone know if that is where David E and Mary Garrison Farley are buried? Thank you. Bonnie Farley Gary

I am a direct descendant of Stephen Garrison, American Revolutionary patriot, thru his dtr., Mary, who married my gg-grandfather David E. Farley. I need to know where Mary and David E. Farley are buried in Al. Also, anyone who might have used Stephen Garrison as a patriot, as I am seeking admission to the local Daughters of American Revolution chapter here in Webster Co, MS, thru him. Would appreciate ANY info regarding him or daughter Mary. Thank you. Bonnie Farley Gary
