I have acquired hundreds of letters from 4 generations of my mother's family. Her mother, Nollie Hill Godwin, was postmistress at Democrat and a teacher at Rocksprings during the early 1900's, so many of these letters mention neighbors from these communities at that time. The names listed above are family connections. I will be happy to share the research that I am doing on each person mentioned in my family letters. I can give relationships for several of the graves listed on this site. Thank you for your hard work in preserving the history of Democrat and Rocksprings. I have a picture, largely identified of the Rocksprings school in 1907, if you are interested and can tell me how to send it.

Sharon,
The web page looks great. Thank you for all of your help on putting it together. I plan to get back out to the cemetery soon and update the new burials from the past few months. I would also like to say thanks to all that have visited the guestbook and passed along the comments on the cemetery. We have worked hard over the past year and a half to get all of the improvements made. Also any visitors that should go by please be sure to go back to the tabernacle and sign in on the guest book, located in a small desk attached to the back wall of the tabernacle. Thanks again, Elisa Chesser

Hi,
I'd like to know if there are road signs entering and leaving The Democrat community identifying it. If not, is there some other display that determines the location as "Democrat"? An old store front with the name "Democrat" on it would be an example. Thanks for any ingformation you can provide.

I'm also interested in the Whisenhunt I see in the pictures. I find that it is a much more common name than I realized. My husband is an only child. His name is William Larry Whisenhunt, son of Donald William Whisenhunt(1917 or 18), son of William Thomas Whisenhunt. I believe his father is from Dora, Alabama, a town in Walker County.

My grandmother was Katherine J. Dalton(b.1874 or 76), daughter of Judge George Henry Dalton of Mills County (1900 census). Her mother was Mahlia Elizabeth Green Dalton. She had brothers, Edward and Grover, and sisters, Sarah and Iola. My grandmother married Rev. Edgar James Isenhower, also of Texas. I have also seen his name spelled Isenhour, but it was Isenhower all of my life, so I don't know how or why it was different. Does anyone have any information regarding this family? I would love to see pictures such as the ones you've posted, but I have found no existing family members. Is there any information regarding them in the history of Mills County that you've advertised in this website?

Was looking at Sandy's Collections and wanted to comment that The correct name for John Lee Chancellor's brother is Thomas Wade Chancellor. He married Ollie Davis in 1904. His sisters, Martha MeLissie (Lissie), not Martha Mamie, and Mary Ann, nicknamed Mamie, also married Davis', Lissie married Noah Davis and Mamie married Carl Davis. These are brothers to Ollie Davis Chancellor. Carol
