Surnames Researching Lacaille and Leguin
Comments:
I saw on your site that you listed a Isidore Lacaille, who had a son Joseph. I am researching a Joseph Leguin whe came to CA from Brittany France. He came (ca 1849) during the gold rush. His father was Jean Leguin (sometimes Legy), his mother was Silveria Lacaille. Joseph and his wife named a son Isidore. I thought that the names were similar to your family, and would love to share information with you.

Steph -
i'd spoken to you a few years ago (2003, i think?) about the Nagels, Christina Hill, Kuna, Idaho, etc. (i was working on a town history project). anyway, a friend of mine and i got a lot of info (i think she may have contacted you with some) about the Fred Nagel/Christina Hill family. We learned that my parents actually live on the old Nagel farm (which generated more interest on my part), and found & organized a lot of newspaper articles about the family (not sure if that info has been forwarded on to you).
At the time, i was living in Seattle ... i have since moved back to Idaho, this time to Payette, and in reading some of the pages of the Hill family History, have found I live in the area where some of the Hill family was.
Anyway, at this point, my primary goal is to find out what happened w/ Fred Nagel (He sold the farm, moved to Ontario, Oregon, and then was the head dairyman of the State School in Nampa, at least through 1930, after that, he just fades away) ... but if i find any additional information, i would be happy to share it.

Hi!
I found your website today after searching for some data on my connected family of Bickford. For years I have been stuck on locating the parents of my Uncle Charley A. Bickford who was married to Aunt Maude L. Compton, a sister to my grandmother, Jessie Compton, b. 8 Jul 1888 in Louisa, Lawrence Co., Ky; d. 2 Nov 1918 in Hellier, Pike Co., Ky. Maude and Jessie's parents were James H. and Georgia Vaughan Compton. James Horn (or Horndon) s/o Horndon and Celia Crabtree Compton was b. 5 Apr 1855 in Lawrence Co., Ky. married 19 Mar 1882, Wayne Co., WVa. Georgia Vaughan, b. 7 Mar 1868 in Wayne Co., WVa.; d. 15 Dec 1890 in Louisa, Lawrence Co., Ky.
Charlie and Maude's children: Paul L. Bickford, b. 11 Nov 1914; d. 18 Feb 1996; married ?; Charles Randall Bickford, b. 3 Oct 1915; d. 28 Jul 2001 in Danville, Va.; m. Wanda Adkins - Ch. (from obituary)- Kathryn F. Bickford, m. ?; Rosely Bickford m. // Griffen; Eugene Darryl Bickford, m. ?; Brice R. Bickford, m. ?; Charles N. Bickford, m. ?.
I finally found George Richard Bickford, b. 1859 in the Ancestry.com census listed as George BECKFORD. Also he gave his place of birth as Maryland and that through me off.
You have a very interesting family and your website is very easy to navigate. One thing I wondered is how your line ties in with the Bickford. I could not locate Aaron Bickford in the lineage.
I used your early Bickford information in my database and have given you as the source. I am so glad to know at last where my Uncle Charley's people originated from.
Forgot to mention that I have a little more information on Vernon Edgell Bickford if you are interested.

Sincerely,
Connie Chancellor

Hi.

Was doing a google search on Trästen Vislanda and came up with your site. I know I have seen your lines before and I had entered a lot into my system. We are related, the long way around. Oliver Edward's mother Stina's father Olof's mother Ingrid's mother Karin was my 5th great-grandmother.

So we are 6th cousins.

I am trying to figure out if Karin Pehrsdotter (b 1738/1741, d. 1804) was actually from Trästen, working there or perhaps the family had moved there after she was born. A Karin was born 17380301 to Pehr Gudmundsson and Elin Olofsdotter at Kalkalycke. I don't have a good map of Vislanda and when I was there I was very, very tired. I had just gotten in from the US and before I could even take a shower we were off going to Stora Skörda and several other farms.

You write of a book on Vislanda farms. Do you know if there are more available and from whom I could get one?

Watch out using the KGF in Vislanda especially. Someone kept putting in Hugo when the person was actually Pehr. It would have been nice if they had someone familiar with the parish records doing it.

Mvh,

Dan

Hello,
My grandfather was Harry Schwartz - Pomarlen.
Died around 1976.

The story goes, that his mother was married to a man
(Mr. Schwartz) and that Mr. Schwartz had died/divorced
and she remarried a Mr. Pomarlen and went to America from
Romania. I've traced the Pomerlan/Pomerlaneaus to
a town called Dorohoi Romania, so it is here she might have met a Mr. Pomarlen.

I don't know anything about the Schwartz family or
Harry's real father.

Perhaps this is all a coincidence, but regardless if you want to chat about it please send me an email.

Cindy

Not much is known of this family, but Grandpa Schwartz died, and his wife remarried. Samuel did not get along with his step father and he left Romania for America on his own. He had a step brother, and they appeared to be similar in age, so this step brother was probably not his mother's child, but this is unknown. This name was possibly SFARTI in Romania. It looks like the family visited Sam at one point in the early 1900s because there were quite a few photos of the family taken in the Bronx, so if the step father's last name were known, it should be in the Ellis Island database.

Comments:
Philip Novick was my maternal grandfather. He did have a sister, Pauline, but I don't recognize all the other sibling names you list, and I don't find others that I know. Philip Novick was born in Bialystock, and came to New York when he was about 2 years old.

I have been researching the N C Coles (said to be part Cherokee)for 18 yrs. John Cole known as "Jack" Cole b:about 1798 in Lincoln N C d: 1862 Cumberland Gap, Tenn.
Marr: 1)ukn 2)Margaret Mallott they had 11 or 12 kids or possibily some were from 1st marriage. Among these was a
John M Cole b: about 1838 in Virginia. My Husband's line comes in the 3rd marriage to Eliza Bowman, she was about 15. Her youngest child was also a John Cole (my husband's grandfather)b: 8/10/1883 Harlan,Ky. However Jack Cole could not have been his father because he died 20 yrs before. Nor was he the father of the other 5, but she gave
them his Cole name. My husband's father's name, I think
contains a clue (Walker Parks Cole). He thinks his name should have been Bledsoe, but doesn't know why, it's just
something he remembered as a child. When he asked about it
he was told "it wasn't any of his buisness" anything else
is only speculation.

I really think this site is wonderful! I hope there are more Coles out there that maybe remember old family stories
that might find this a familier story. I'm glad I found it.
Thanks Glenda
