I am a direct descendent of August Gustav Koberstein. Paul Koberstein was my Grandfather. He and my Grandmother Hilda had 3 daughters. Verna Louise born September 20, 1940 (my Mother), Sharon Diane born August 22, 1944 and Karen Diane born July 9, 1960. I have sent you an email with additional family history. It is my sincere hope and desire to help update the family tree and get in contact with as many relatives as possible who can assist with the updating as well. I am hoping to visit Brandenburg Germany for my 40th birthday on October 28, 2007 now that I have found the history on my family. Thank you so much for all of your research.

I also found something else very strange and that is that my name is Nicholas and the Nicholas from Germany changed his name to Kober and thats what my friends sometimes call me.

Maybe my great grandmother (= Marie Louise Koberstein)belongs also to your family!
She was born 23 October 1869 in Wepritz, Prussia and died in 1945 in Berlin.
In 1897 she married Otto Türk (born 23 March 1875) from Friedeberg.

Greetings from New Zealand.I am the first born of the fifth generation of Kobersteins in New Zealand,the eldest brother of Gerald Koberstein and father of Tania Michelle and Julie Marie Koberstein who recently signed your Guestbook.Wilhelm and his wife Lousia and children were not the only Kobersteins to emigrate to New Zealand from Germany in the 19th century.Gustav and Karl Koberstein emigrated to New Zealand several years after Wilhelm and his family,they came from the Guben area as did Wilhelm,but due to military service were unable to leave Germany at the same time as Wilhelm and were probably quite younger then Wilhelm.Gustav was known to have a wooden leg as a consequence of having his leg shot off in the Franco-Prussian War whilst serving in the Prussian Army.What their relationship was with Wilhelm is unclear but they were apparently closely related.Karl had decendants living in New Zealand up until at least the late 1970`s.

Carl and Hannah Koebersteen are listed in vital records for Sheboygan, WI. My father was born in Sheboygan, WI. on 3/23/1917. He was the second of four children. Janet was the oldest, Ron, Doris and Lois.
Carl changed the spelling of the last name when he started working. He said everyone spelled it that way anyway. He once told me he had a auto mechanic job in Milwaukee where he signed his name a lot. He would not dot the "i" so it became an "e."
Carl also told me that in the early 1850's, a seventeen year old male stowed away on a ship from Germany to dodge Kaiser's conscripton. Settled in the Wisconsin area. Carl and Hannah lived in Milwaukee, move to Florida during the depresion and ended up in the Sacramento, CA area. Here are some vitals:
Janet Kobersteen married John Dunn and had Patrick and Susie. Janet died several years ago.
Ronald, my dad, married Bernice Landgren, had me and died in 1997 in Bellingham, WA
Doris, married Edward Bramer and had Gary and Kathleen. Doris lives in Carson City, NV.
Lois married Kenny Lauer and had Larry and Lynn. They live in Neveda, near Lake Tahoe.
My birth name was Ronald Gary Kobersteen, and I was born in Seattle, WA on 3/23/1946. I now live in Mukilteo, WA and have a daughter Kristene, married to Rodger Hanson, serving on the USS Lincoln.
Legally changed my name from Ronald Gary Kobersteen to Gary Kobersteen Kelly in 1965.
Would really appreciate any help i can get to trace my family back to the German area they came from.

I had my name changed to the man that raised me. It was not an adoption. My birth name was Ronald Gary Kobersteen. As stated, my father was Ronald John Kobersteen, from Sheboygon, Wisconsin. My grandfather, Carl Kobersteen told me our family had come to American in the 1850's when a young lad of seventeen stowed away to escape being conscripted on Kaiser's army. A draft dodger if you would. I was also told that the spelling had changed from Koberstein to Kobersteen when he worked as a quality control person in the Harley-Davidson factory in Milwaukee and the dotted "i" was left un-dotted and became interpretted as an "e."
I would like to find out more about this side of my family. What city in Germany. I do believe it is in northern Germany, but I do not know that for a fact. I have cousins in California, all from Carl Kobersteen's side. Carl's family consisted of my father Ron, his older sister Janet, and two younger sisters, Doris and Lois. Janet and my dad Ron are both deceased (of course Carl is also).
I believe there is a Barbara Kobersteen that has done some tracing of our family. I have tried to contact her, but have had no luck. Hopefully you can help me.
