Hi,
What a lot of hard work you have put into this web site!
My 6x maternal Grandmother was : Elizabeth Scawen born 1722 at Stratton, Cornwall, England and who married John Penfound on 15 December 1742 also at Stratton.
Tracing the family line back from Elizabeth, the earliest record that I have found is for Nicholas Scawen born before 1523 at St Mellion, Cornwall, England and who died in 1596.
Thank you for a great site!
Kind regards,
John

I did find my George Scoins(1854) but it was just the Perth county ontario census of 1881. Anyone out there who has info on him I would love to hear from. His parents were John Scoins and Anne Katherine (Kate) Rausch. He married Lydia Schneider. Also I am trying to connect him with a William Scoins bn abt 1851-1857 who also lived in perth county ontario.

Just to let you know Louis Scown born Waimate Plains 1903-68 was always known as laurie? I'm not sure of the spelling. My Grandmother Elsie Mabel Ferguson, married Laurie. It was her second marriage and she had children from her previous marriage. Laurie adopted them, so they carry the Scown name. They were Bill, Patsy and Les (my father). Laurie and Elsie had one child together who is called Betty. Betty married Joe Lovejoy (now divorced). They had one child. I think Elsie's maiden name was McPhee, and we always celebrated her birthday on the 17April but I could be wrong.

Great page! I have some information for you, if you would like. I noticed that all my Scowens are questions on the pages:
Robert Scowen born 1835 in Beccles, Suffolk, England of John and Ann Scown.
Robert is listed in 1881 as Robert Scawen in Yorkshire. He married Elizabeth Frances Unknown.
His daughter was Mary Ann Crowfoot Scowen (b. 1862 Wangford, Suffolk) who married Joseph Sykes in Yorkshire. They had 11 children.
His son was Alfred Crowfoot Scowen (b. 1860 Wangfod, Suffolk). He married Mary A. Buckley in Leeds, Yorkshire. They came to US and lived in Camden, NJ. Sons were Harry C. Scowen (1898-1983) and Alfred Scowen. Harry is the one listed in the 1930 census.
Robert and Elizabeth also had other children - Alice Ann (married Joseph T. Savage), Ellen and Kate.
My husband is a decendant of Mary Ann Crowfoot Scowen through her daughter, Sarah Sykes.

Hi,
I have been trying on an off for years to research my GGG Grandmother Mary Ann SCHOWEN who married James Hugh Starling in the parish of St James the Great in the county of Middlesex England on Jan 3, 1870.
I have the marriage certificate for this wedding, which lists Mary’s age as “fullö. Her father is listed as John SCHOWEN (a stone lawyer?) and her residence is listed as Ann Street.
Unfortunately I have never been able to find her birth or anything further about the family.
I was wondering if you may have come across them during your own research?
Would love to hear from you in any case.
Regards
James Parker
