It is Good Friday - a day of reflection and contemplation. My dear Nana, Edith Shields was the main light in my life. I googled her name today out of curiousity. She was born in the north east of England (where I still live) and our ancestors were from Ireland. I know little more than that and I expect Shields was quite a common name. In around a year when I hope my current demands have calmed I hope to research more. You have a fantastic record, thank you for letting me view it.
Best wishes, Jan

Hello, I live in Oregon. I bought a cigar box full of old letters a a flea market a few years ago, and while my wife was going through some of them today, she looked up the name Shields. I see from your site that your liniage is from Irland. These letters mention people that moved from County Cavern Irland. Some of the names are Richard Shields who married Mary Snider, by methodist minister in Camden Canada with one son born in 1848 Jacob Shields, the father Richard left for California 4 months befor Jacob was born. This is just a small excerpt. There is among these letters a letter written on Hotel letterhead, dated june 16 , 1897 by Jacob Shields. I don't know if any of these letters are of intrest to you, but if so , please feel free to contact me.

I am researching the Shields Tree also, but I haven't found any lines to connect our family. We too came from Ireland in or around 1600. Our oldest family member then was William who had 4 sons. My husband is a direct descent to him. Brenda Shields

My niece has been tracing our family tree and i thought i would see what a search on our family name showed and i found your page. You have done a lot of work. There is a common thread for sure with the first names. I thought that my background was Scottish but my niece is finding the further back she goes our descendants were/are Irish. A lot of work, nice job.

Thank you so much for posting your pictures and family lines. I've been researching my surname for over 25 years and it's wonderful to learn so much more at one time!
My direct line is Thomas Andrew Shields, son of Moses Shields. I was given copies of 7 letters written by Thomas Marion Shields to his wife Amanda J. (Steadman) Shields during the Civil War and that really helped me get going!

Very nice presentation. It's fascinating to Google your own name and discover a host of possible relatives, however remote the connection may be. My own part of the clan came over around 1690, chased out of Ireland by Cromwell's occupying force, and after stops in the West Indies and Williamsburg headed south, with me being the first of the line in at least four generations to have been born outside the State or Territory of Mississippi. Apparently we've always been rebels.
