I have family members who lived in Mexico, Audrian Co, MO 1834- last known was Miss Pinkie West who died May 27, 1942. She was the daughter of J.J. & Zelophia (Hatton) West. My Great Grandfather Jermiah Jackson West was their son, who lived in Fulton, MO. I was just surfing around trying to find out more information about family. I am making strides but it is a slow process. Barbara Peterson

Just found your site. It is wonderful and enjoyed looking at all your hardwork. I am rather a novice at this, but really enjoy it. The Pedigo lines cross 2 different places in my lineage. My great great grandmother was Martha Lucinda Pedigo who came from Robert Robin Pedigo line and then Elizabeth Pedigo daughter of Joseph Pedigo and Dorothy Edwards married John Taylor. She was the grandmother of James A Whitlow who married Martha Lucinda Pedigo. That is if I have all this straight.

I am a descendant of Edward "Ned" Pedigo's brother Robert Pedigo whose descendant went through KY to TN's Clay, Jackson and Macon Counties with Calvin Pedigo (~1840), Wright Lewis Pedigo (~1860), Finis Idle Pedigo (1907), Melvin Cleo Pedigo, and me Donald Bruce Pedigo and now my son Orrin Blake Lewis Pedigo all still of middle TN and Macon or Sumner counties or nearby.

I have wondered if the two brothers Robert and Eward could have been adoptive children of Henry's and they kept their original surname Pedigo? Likely they would still have been family though.

Pedigo and Hattie Sutton. Her grandfather was John Patterson Pedigo Jr. and her great-grandfather of John Patterson Pedigo. I started this search for my mother who's father is Cleo May's son. My grandpa started researching but died before he got to far.So I have taken over. My biggest problem I have found is finding information on Johnnie Lee Pedigo which is my great grandmother's brother. Also looking for lots of pictures of my ancesters and all the information I can find.So thanks for all you help so far.And God Bless YOU!!!

I believe my husband may be a descendant from William Dorsey. William died about 1825 in Lexington, Kentucky. I know for a fact that my hubby's ggggrandfather was Richard M. Dorsey. Richard married Martha Glass, March 1839 in Shelby County, Kentucky.
For a very long time I've looked for the parents of Richard. I feel his parents were Corbin N. and Martha W. Daniel Dorsey. Found 3 references to Corbin N. Dorsey in the Louisville, Kentucky records. Found 2 references to Corbin as deceased in the marriage records for America (m. John Russell) and Mary Dorsey (m. John Moody). If you find any info regarding these Dorsey's I would greatly appreciate it if you would send it to me.

Are we missing someone from the family? Lucy Pedigo (#136-8)
Comments:
I am the gr, gr, gr, gr,grandson of Edward "Ned" Pedigo. My lineage traces from him through his daughter Lucy Pedigo (Clark) (136-8), through her son George Nix Clark, through his daughter Lousia Elizabeth Clark (Baker), through her daughter Adelle Maude Baker (Baird), through her daughter Elizabeth Catherine Baird (Wahlgren). My name is Edwin Clay Wahlgren.

Interesting, if not coincidental, George N. Clark and family migrated to what is now Colfax, Washington the same area as Edward Pedigo (136-19) migrated to and nearly at the same time. I wonder if they knew each other and were aware of their family connections.

I have a lot of family history regarding sebsequent Clark's and Baker's in and around Colfax, but not much on Lucy Pedigo (136-8). Do you or anyone you know have more regarding her?

Are we missing someone from the family? I have no idea
Comments:
I am looking for George W. Yates and Emily Jane McClain. They came from Georgia to Texas. They had 6 children before they moved to Texas. Texas child that I know was Emma Frances Elizabeth(Lizzy) Yates. Born 1865 in Shelby, Texas. Mar. to a Thomas Carpenter in San Augustine, Texas, abt 1889.

It was told to me by my mother, they were Cherokee Indians.

"Lizzy" is my g. grandmother and George and Emily is my gg grandparents. This is where the trail vanishes. I went backwards into my family tree, since details of these folk are vague.

I suspect they were on the Trail of Tears.

Any info will be very greatful. Email me at dgrawls@gower.net, if you like.

Thank you.

Dear Mrs. Summers-Smith, Wed. March 30, 2005

I have enjoyed studying up on The Pedigos that you list on your website. I have a Pedigo who is my Paternal Grandmother. She is a Niece to Edward and Lettice Pedigo.I enjoyed the Old Settler story about Edward and Lettice. I came across a site that lists old cemeteries in Washington State by a Maggie Rain. There to my surprise was an entry showing Edward and Lettice Pedigo as being interred in the Eden Valley WA Cemetery. I sent her the story about Edward and Lettice's early years on their trek from Kentucky to Washington State as told on your site. It is like discovering a missing piece of a puzzle. From cradle to grave history. Knowing where Edward was born to knowing where he is buried and his life in between. He now rests in a quiet spot in Eden Valley, WA. My Father never knew these things about Edwards life although he and his Sister discussed relatives constantly. Your site has answered lots of questions for me. Sincerely, Victor Jordan-- Cousin of Edward many times removed.

Comments:
I was looking for my grandmothers side of the family when I found all the Pedigo's. My dad is Donald Lee Pedigo, my grandfather is Edward Fountain Pedigo, ggf John or Thomas Pedigo (I believe) gggf Patrick Fountain Pedigo. I've just started to research this side of the family and I don't have it all memorized yet.

I have been doing some investigation on the Yates family over several years and am interested in keeping track of what is going on. Much of the stuff that I have done is earlier than Samuel and Nellie, Tim Dollens and I cooresponded several years ago and I recently talked with him about all the info on this website. It is very interesting and I look forward to seeing more. Great work on you part. Joe

Really nice site. I have been working off and on for a while now on the Pedigo line and found your site very interesting. My great great grandfather was Jesse Robert Pedigo and from my understanding he came from the Clay County Tennessee area. I still have family living in Bowling Green Kentucky who are Pedigo's and several relatives buried in Fairview Cemetery in Warren County, Bowling Green, KY. Your site is great! Michele

Are we missing someone from the family? Desc. of Greenberry and Sarah Hobbs Dorsey?
Comments:
For fun, I have been putting together--mostly via internet--the paternal genealogy of our Pendleton grandchildren. The Pendletons go back to Culpeper VA via Hardin Co. KY. The Hardin Co. KY lines include Elizabeth Dorsey (d/o Greenberry and Sarah Hobbs I think)who married Thomas Sprigg. In case anyone is interested, there's an amazing amount of good material on the web--including primary sources like census, marriage, deaths, etc. While I'm usually much more careful with original sources, this little exercise has certainly show me how much is available--and what can be done on the web! Thanks for the Dorsey material--I think you'll find most of Greenberry and Sarah Hobb's Dorsey's children in Scuyler Co. IL after about 1830--a Greenberry, Levin, Charles, etc.--and also where Thomas Sprigg and his wife Elizabeth Dorsey moved in the 1830s along with Pendletons.

I am the 2nd great granddaughter of Margaret Ann Pedigo who married James Franklin Heldreth. She was the 4th great granddaughter of Robert "Robin" Pedigo. I really have enjoyed your web page and all the information you have on the family. I have been working on trying to get as much information on my history as possible and it has been great to find someone that has done alot of the research that I would not be able to do. I have some pictures of Margaret Ann Pedigo and her husband if you would be interested. Let me know and I could email them to you. Thanks again for a wonderful web page on the Pedigo family.

Comments:
I live around the corner from Woodland Cemetery. My neighbor goes by there when jogging and stopped by to look at the headstones. She mentioned to me about headstones with the 3 girls names on them. I told her I would check the internet to see if there was anything on the cememtery.. I did a Google search by putting in "Kansas cemetery 175th & Kenneth Rd. Bingo--there it was. My question is: Do you know when the first Pedigo came to Stilwell, Kansas and were they the first person to be placed in this cemetery when the graveyard was started?
Thanks,
Chuck
PS: Excellent website you put together.

I was quite thrilled to find your homepage & pictures on Ancient faces. I have just begun researching Grandpa Pedigo's line. Grandma is still alive, and she was kind enough to lend me all of her family records. I will compare notes with your postings, however it may take more than just one trip. I did see there is a photo of Grandpa, posted by my husbands cousin. Thanks, what a great tribute! Holly

Comments:
I have been researching the DeVore line for 3 years. Harret J. Pedigo married Thomas Jefferson DeVore. So I had gone back to Joseph Pedigo, but I have been able to find out so much more from your website about their families. Thank you for taking time to do this. It has helped me so much. Harriet had James Buchanan Devore, who had Moss DeVore, who had Guy DeVore, who had me. Thanks.

I have been able to determine that one of my ancestors, a Sam P. Yates,
emigrated to Texas in the 1840's from Pittstown, New york. He was
supposedly born in 1822 in Pittstown. He died, and is probably buried,
around Schulenberg, Texas. He was married to Martha Bridges, or Bridgers,
whose father was one of Austin's "Old 300", the original Anglo settlers of
Mexican Texas.
I would be interested in hearing from anyone who is familiar with the Yates
line from that area.

Are we missing someone from the family? Sexton & Julia (born slaves) in Gaffney or Spartanburg, SC
Comments:
Hi, I am trying to find an information about my Grandmother's Grandmother- Julia Dawkins. It is a very interesting story about her. She was born a slave in 1853, and the interesting part about her was that she had no pores in her skin (she couldn't sweat) and she never had any teeth. This was also the case of her brother Tom who died at the bank of a pond because he didn't make it to the water to cool off. She also had a daughter who had no pores but did have teeth. I remember my Grandmother telling me that she would go to the pond with her Grandmother and that she would stay under the water so long that she thought she had drowned, but she would always come up. I have a picture of Grandmother Julia with a rag on her head that she always wore wet to keep herself cool.

I know that this article was written because I read it. My Grandmother had a copy of it but down through the years it was misplaced. I would really like a copy of this article so I can pass it down to my Granddaughter who will be a year old on Dec.2.

If you can be of any help in obtaining this article, I would be very grateful. My Grandmother passed away in January at the age of 96, so I am the next family Historian who remembers all the stories of my family that my Grandmother passed on to me and that I would like to preserve and past down to future generations of my family.

My family history revolves around Gaffney, Chesney, and Spartanburg. My great-great Grandmother was married to Sex Dawkins, who I found to be buried in Spartanburg.(1871-1921).

Thanks and BE BLESSED.

Deborah J. Cobb
