I am responding to an earlier post regarding John Rauch and Theresia Gruber. I am descended from Rosalie Eva Rauch, who was the 2nd to the youngest daughter of John and Theresia Gruber Rauch. However, I think it is a case of cousins with the same names. I know we are related to the Schlecters because my grandmother spoke about her cousin Rose Schlecter among others in the Gervais area. John (Janos) Rauch immigrated abt 1907 with Theresia and his daughters Anna, Theresia, and Elizabeth. Rosalie and Katherine were born here.
Would love to compare information but the email you posted was no longer working.

Thank You for your most interesting web site. I see from the passenger lists many names I recognize. Especially my Grandmother Anna Mandl. Have been e-mailing Mr Jaeger about the upcoming book he has been authoring. He does'nt seem to be answering. If you have any info I'd appreciate it.

Frank,
I just joined the Banat list, and I found one e-mail were you indexed the surnames you could make out in the baptismal records. This was a great help to me and led me to find the right records for my family (Nozak/Nosak/Nozsak/ Nosack, Rauch, Gruber, and Schlechter). Have you indexed other records like this?
By the way, our Gruber is Theresia Eva Gruber who married John Rauch. They are my great-great-great-grandparents. All of my Grandpa Nosack's grandparents came from the Banat area (Neupanat, Fakert, Arad, and Vilagos). My family settled in Gervais, Oregon after immigrating in 1904 , 1905, 1907, and 1909.
Thank you for all your hard work on behalf of the Banat descendants.
To answer a guestbook question: Neupanat, Hungary is now Horia, Romania. It 8 km east of Arad.
Has anyone translated the Jubilee book from German yet? I'm wondering, too.

My grandparents and uncles were from Neupanat. Immigrated to Portland Oregon at about 1904. My mother was born after their arrival in Portland.
My grandmother, Eva Bauman, married Anton Wachter in Neupanat. Sons Anton and Paul were born there.
A Sam Bauman, possibly Eva's brother, immigrated at about that same time, and settled in Chicago. Oregon relatives visited him in Chicago many years ago. Eva had a sister, Theresa Bauman, who also came to the Portland area, I think.
A Peter Bauman and wife Katherine still owned a Bauman home in Neupanat as recently as 20 years ago. They had a daughter still living in the area at that time. Peter Bauman owned the home at that time, but lived primarily in Freudenstadt, Germany.
Other family names that I've found so far are Schindler and Schlecter - also from Neupanat or Vilagos. There is also a Wachter that married a Gruber. So interesting to read the family connections.

Such a wonderful site! I have made use of it many times but just never thought to leave a message. My great grandmother, Magdalena Szander, daughter of Petrus Szander and Clara Lump, was born in Neupanat 17 July 1850.
Other Neupanat surnames include: Hacker, Wisber, Neu, Herzog, and Dorner. Feel free to contact me if you see any connection. Perhaps we can share information. I am searching information/descendants for the younger brother of Magdalena, Filip/Phillip Szander born in 1852. Also hunting for a death record for Magdalena Szander. She is said to have died in Glogowatz about 1881 - no records there but there is the death of a daughter, baby Magdalena Szander at that time. Would appreciate any leads. Godparents for the Magdalena and Filip were Mihaly Faber and Teres Hein; Magdalena Pley and Fullop Koscher. Connections to these people would be helpful also. Thanks Susan

Great work! My grandmother, Eva Gebel, was born in Neupanat in 1906. Her parents were Pete Gebel and Rosalia Freisinger. Her maternal grandmother was Eva Schwager. Trying to work the family tree back to Frauenberg, Lorraine.
Loved seeing the information here!

The Gruber church records are really interesting and reading them I find my family name many times in his partial lists. Seems if you go back far enough you find we are all related. I would like to find a way through the internet using my computer rather than using film to find my ancesters. R Baumann Seattle

Very informative site! I have a 1939 article that mentions several emigrants from Wangen-am-Bodensee on Lake Constance, to the Banat. Some names are Massler, Gultberth (Guldbert or Gilbert), Hangarter (Hangartner), Joos (Josnin), and Stodle.

A wonderful site; many thanks for all the hard work that went into it.
Two things:
1.the email address for Mr. Gruber now comes back as undeliverable.
2.does anyone know if there are any LDS microfilms for Neupanat for the second half of the 19th century?
Any pointers on that would be very appreciated.
Thanks.

My grandmother was Elizabeth Schillo who was born in Neupanat in 1896. Her parents were Josef Schillo and Barbara Konrad. Josef was the brother of Barbara's first husband whose first name might have been Jacob. He died from cholera, I believe.
She emigrated to the US in 1914.
Anyone knowing of a connection is welcome to write me.
And thanks.

With a name like Frank Gruber and researching Neupanat I just knew in time there could be a family link.
Sebastian Schmalz and then Nicholas Schmalz married Theresia Kramer who was my Aunt - sister to Josef, my Dad.
Can hardly wait until you add more records. Very Well Done!!
