My brickwall is my g-g-grandfather Cornelius "Glenn". He married Mary Power here in St. John's on May 7, 1845. They had seven children that I know of, the fifth was my g-grandfather Francis Joseph "Glynn". Cornelius died in St. John's on October 3, 1872, his age at death was listed as 63 years (b. 1809?). The earliest "Glyn" I found in my research was Dolly Glyn 1795 at Bay Bulls, Newfoundland.
Wonderful site, I hope it is of help to all us Glynn's in our research.

My sister Fay (Glynn) Michaelis and I are researching our lineage through my great-great-grandfather William Glynn, born 1830 in Louisville, KY to Bartholomew ("B") Glynn. Both of whom were steamboat engineers. They later settled in Dubuque, Iowa. We believe that Bartholomew's father was named Joseph and died of disease while traveling with a group of Kentucky volunteers on the way to New Orleans to support General Jackson in defending the city. William's brother, also named Bartholomew for his father, would leave Dubuque for New Orleans, eventually fighting in the Civil War in a Louisiana regiment and getting wounded at Gettysburg.

Hello all. I am very new to geneology research but I found your site and thought I would pose a question. My Great grandfather is Martin J Glynn who came to America from Ireland around 1890. He married Celia Davitt in Chicago in 1892. She came from Castlebar, Co. Mayo just prior. It is my understanding that they met in Chicago, but my family history is sketchy. Martin & Celia had 3 children: Martin, Cecelia, and Irene Glynn. Martin and Irene died single, while Cecelia married George Halston (my grandparents). Cecilia & George had 3 boys who in turn had 8 of my generation.

It seems there are many Martin Glynn's and I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction to find more on "my" Glynn clan. I will contribute what I learn in return. Thanks!

We have been searching for information concerning our surname. Much of our history has been lost or buried. My grandfather's name was Andrew Jackson Glynn, a name he adopted. His mother's name was Mittie Glynn, of Chamberlain, Louisiana.
