I was googling Moderwell and connected to this site. FYI, The 'Perth' often given as a 'died' location is really Perth County. The Moderwells came to Canada from Letterkenny, Ireland and were granted land near Perth,in Lanark Co. Ont. However, Robert Moderwell moved to Canada West and eventually settled in Stratford, Perth Co., where he was the first Sheriff. Why are the Moderwells here?

I am looking for the parents of Hector McCrae born in or near Gelph, ON in 1832 or 33. I have some 1851 census records for a John McRay (1801)/Katherine MaRay(1803) with both of them being born in Scotland along with 7 children born in Scotland??? that include a Hector born in 1832. They could be his family with a spelling correction and an error in who was born in Scotland. The census records are for Oxford County which is the right one for Hector in 1851.

I think your (?) Newmins should be Newmains. The (?) Mons Meg is correct. Loch Lomond is the correct spelling. We know most of these places by hearing our parents talk of them as we were growing up in Johannesburg, South Africa. My father was a Tommy and was from Newarthill - just up the road from Carfin, he was probably working at Motherwell Bridge & Engineering around that time . My mother came from Motherwell

Hello,
I came across your website when trying to track down a 'John Harper' age 7 'dependant' in the 1841 census. He was listed with my 3xg.grandfather George Cormach and his wife Margaret (maiden surname = Harper) living at Sitting Hillock, Cairnie-by-Huntly, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It would seem that he was a relative of Margaret's. We are keen to trace him in case this can lead us to more information about the remainder of Margaret's family.
Please get in touch to share more information.

My family is from Ontario and Manitoba Canada. My ancestory is from Scotland and they originally settled in Elora and Guelph Ontario. My great grandmother Margaret Gerrie married a McCrae (it could also be spelled McCray, McRae or otherwise). For unknown reasons the marriage did not last and my great grandmother gave thier children her maiden name of Gerrie. My father can probably give you many more details and dates that would be helpful. Do you think you may be able to fill in some of the gaps in our family tree? Thank you so much.

My grandfather Alex did pass in 2003 tho. I see you got your info from the Guelph museum as I have the same info. (some of the wording you quoted is directly from there).

The software I use has shown a possible duplication in your tree. During an internet search I came across your family tree web site and sourced a connection (extremely distant) to my family. I downloaded your tree to add to mine and the software highlighted that William McCrae B. 4 Jan 1802 could be the same William McCrae B. 13 May 1802. Both fathers share the same forename William and both wives share the same full name Margaret Miller and same marriage date 21 Jan 1831 in Old Cumnock.

Hello - I've been researching grandmother, Mary McRae Topliff b. 1867, Ont., Canada, dau of John, son of Finley for at least 10 years. Almost all the names accompanying your pictures are also in the Canadian line, albeit with earlier dates. Also, I find it fascinating that each time a see a new picture of a McRae, there is a familiar face or or facial feature. Strong genes, you think? Lovely site - perhaps we can hook up lines somewhere in the distant past.
If you care to respond, please use Strange4th@aol.com. I am currently staying with daughter for a few weeks and it is easier and cheaper to use one of her screen names.

Jan

What a beautiful job you have done!! I have spent hours viewing all your ancestors. Margaret Morton m David McCrae Jul 21, 1868, died Aug 1873 after childbirth, leaving two living children. Janet Harrower McCrae and Robert John McCrae. We have unsuccesfully searched for them. Now we think they may have possibly gone to New Zealand with the family. Do you still have any contacts in New Zealand??

I am interested in discovering more about the Drennan connection. It has always been believed that some of my ancestors lived in and around Cumnock in Ayrshire- since those days one branch of the family moved to Derbyshire where my grandfather John William Drennan grew up married Forence Mary Gaunt and had 7 children.
Back in 1809 a George Drennan was born at 21, church street ayr and died in Cumnock in June 1899. He had been a blacksmith.
He had a son George born in 1846 in Cumnock who died in Cheterfield in June 1935. Would this be George Drennan McCrae? Or a relation??
