Their son also Jean Faure born in Guernsey about 1814 is my wife's g.g.Grandfather.

Hi,
I found this history of the Guille Family really interesting. You did a great job of your website.
My Grandmother Was Marguerite Guille, from
Philadelphia Pa. She was born around 1895 or a little
later. She married Elmer H. Einwechter somewhere around
1914 or so, I'm not sure exactly.
In Philadelphia they lived at 54th & Haverford in West
Philadelphia till their deaths. They had several children
George, Stephen, Bonnie, Marguerite, Adele and a couple
more that I don't know the names of.
after. We do know her mother's and father's both families
came from Guernsey also. I do not know a whole lot more and really like to know more. Do you have connection with
Guille's from Philadelphia. I know the had a lot of relatives, some of which lived somewhere in Canada.
It is really interesting that the name goes back so far.
I wonder if that was a common name. Any information would
be greatly appreciated.

I have enjoyed your history. It was fun exploring your website and looking at everything. I would be a distant relative of yours going down the branch of B.F. Leslie.
As you know, B.F. Leslie and Andros Guille were in the grocery business together. B.F. Leslie would be my great great great grandfather. His son Henry (my great great grandfather) His son Harry Sinclair Leslie (my great grandfather) His daughter Edith Leslie Fritz, my grandmother and her son, Donald Wayne Fritz, my father.
Most of my close relatives remained in Zanesville but it has been exploring other branches of the tree.
Thanks!

I'm not sure if it was you that I discussed my Guille ancestry with, but my Great Grandfather, Joseph Gustav Guille adopted my grandfather, Glenn Elwood McCarthy, when he married Oralie Valentine Lebrun. That is how we became known as Guille.
I believe Joseph was born in Monetier les Bains (H. Alpes) June 24, 1884 or 1886. He had a cousin he came to stay with named Aug. Faure living in San Francisco. He came to the USA in 1904 via Ellis Island.

My wife, Carolyn Montgomery Byers Downey Brockwell, had only one first cousin - Walter Earl Hooper of Lookout Mountain, TN who married the lovely lady, Sarah C. Hooper, another descendant of Andros Guille. We were her houseguests last weekend when we attended the wedding of her granddaughter Amy Littleton Wagner of Signal Mountain, TN to Jeffrey Kyle Mullins of High Point, NC.
Someone said there are only six degrees of separation between any of us. Carolyn's and Walter Earl's great grandfather, John Washington Inzer of Ashville, AL was one of the signers of the Alabama Resolution of Secession. Later, he was commanding the 58th Alabama Infantry at the Battle of Missionary Ridge where he was captured and was interred for the remainder of the war at Johnson's Island near Sandusky, Ohio. He returned to a life of public service in Alabama as a probate judge, state senator and other leadership positions until his death in 1926 - the last of the Secession Resolution signers to die.

Hi Mr. Guille.
My name is also Guille but we spell it "Guillé" in French. I am French and I always had wonders about the origins of my family name especially since my parents took a trip to Guernsey last year. My mum found plenty of us in the white pages! Strange...
So, as I had nothing special to do today, I took a little tour of the internet and found your website.
It is very interesting since you place the Guille origines back in Norway which I had no clue of.
My family is currently located in Lamballe, France, and one of my relatives wrote our genealogy a few years ago.
I know that we have origins back near Nantes, France and also in Normandy but we have very few information on the path our ancestors chose.
In any case, I guess I should call my aunt and speak with her so as to get more details on this.
You and your family take care.
Best regards,
Julien.

My family originated from the Philippines, but up to this days I still haven't found how the name ended-up in the Philippines. My father's facial feature and stature is not your typical filipino. It is not a common name in that country and the country was under Spain rule for 300 Years plus (1521-1898).

I have just been looking at your wonderful web site on the Guille family I have recently researched family history and find that I am distantly related to a Phillip Guille born [according to a rough chart drawn up by my mother] in 1746, Phillip had a daughter Susan born 1802 who married Capt. Andre Clapin about 1820, they had a son Adolphus Phillipe Clapin 1826-1914,Adolphus Phillipe emmigraded to Australia in the 1840s, my mother was a Clapin and Adolphus is my great grandfather.I have a photo of Andre Clapin in a stove pipe hat {looks very 1860ish) his family the Clapin's are also from the Channel Islands. Do you think Graham Guille would have more information on our ancestors

Hi! My mom's maiden name is Guille and her father is from Lezignan a small village in the South of France close to Perpignan. We have never known exactly where this part of our family came from. My grandfather used to say from Spain. Maybe there were many Guille or maybe not, but anyway, reading the history about your guille family was very interesting!

I have just researched the origins of the building we are occupying in Wilson St, Newtown, Sydney Australia.
It looks like the building was first established under the name Guille and Co and was a bulk goods store. In 1923 it is listed as a furniture warehouse.
Does anyone know anything about the Guille Family in Sydney.
I would like to name the building and put a date of construction, but not sure if the building was erected in 1916 or 1923.
Any help you can give me would be much appreciated.

Dear Les,
Its hard to believe I just happened upon your web site. I am so thrilled! What a treasure trove! It has been a long, long time since you and Nancy had dinner with us in Alexandria. Can't wait to tell my three children about these historical family documents and put them on to your web site, which by the way, is a masterpiece. Thank you for your hard and diligent work.
Sad to think that I am the only one left of my family. Walter died in 1996. Con and Fred are both gone. Now its me, son WalterIII, daughter Ruth (Sunny)Hooper Wagner, and son, James Bell Milligan Hooper (know you are familiar with that name). I am blessed with seven grandchildren. Still live at 111 Richardson St., Lookout Mtn., TN 37350.
I see my neice, Sherred contacted you. I'm going to get her for not telling me about all this info about you and Isle of Guernsey.
Now tell me, do you and Nancy have children? How I would love to sit down and have a visit. And hey, I need your address. This is such fun. Let me hear from you.
Much love, Sarah

It's amazing how one can be led to a website! I am researching the Scopes Trial as the basis for a novel. In my on-line research, I ran across the name of Rev. George Guille from Athens, TN, the first prsident of Bryan College. He was married to my great-aunt May Gettys (not Amy, as written in several geneological sites). May was my grandmother's older sister, and they lived on Ingleside Farm in Athens. They were two of the children of Wilberforce and Isabella McKeldin Gettys.
I lived on Lookout Mountain until I went away to college in 1961.

Hello cousin! I just did a "Google Search" for mentions of Sherreds and, lo and behold, up came the Guille webpage! I think I remember meeting you long ago at the home of my grandparents, Carnot Guille and Lila Milligan, on Lookout Mtn., TN. Having spelled and respelled my name over and over at least a zillion times over my lifetime for people who just can't believe I've pronounced it correctly, I remember, even then, being thrilled to meet someone who shared the name. And now, the older I get, the more important it becomes to me to be able to pass along family history to my children. My daddy, Con, Jr., and his brother, Fred, are gone now, and my Aunt Sarah Milligan Hooper is the only one left for me to go to for information on our branch of the Guilles. We live in North Carolina now, so I don't get back to Tennessee very often. I'm glad you have printed so much family history on your website. Andros Guille moved to Grindstone Mountain because he had part of his face blown off in the Civil War, right? My grandfather took us up on Grindstone many times when I was growing up and that was the story I remember hearing every time we went there. I think my Great Uncle, for whom I am named, was buried in the area, but not on Grindstone. I've always wondered if I could find his grave. I've taken enough of your time, but look forward to the possibility of hearing back from you! Sherred Williams

I followed a number of leads on the web and ended up at your site which I found very interesting. I spent some of my childhood and teenage years (in the 1960's) at the foot of Grindstone Mountain. The surrounding area is quite different now. Much of it is part of the City of Collegedale. I now live in north Georgia, but am a police officer with Collegedale and patrol by the same place in which I lived. Although the mountain was (and still is) privately owned, it did not have restrictions regarding trespassing when I was young. Everyone respected the property and was generally allowed to hike it. I hiked Grindstone Mountain literally hundreds of times, finding caves and following various trails. The most interesting feature was the old foundation of the house, the well, and the nearby gravestone. It always gave me a sense of awe to think of someone living up there. I loved Grindstone and cherish the memories of living nearby. I hope to obtain permission from the land owners to hike around again someday. Thanks for your website.

Hi ! We met briefly on your visit to Guernsey. Graham introduced us in the Priaulx Library. I have been busy working on the family tree ever since, and now have a database of over 19,000 names. Over half those are Guilles (or variations) and about 10,000 are USA or Canadian, which can be traced back to one Scottish ancestor. The rest originate from Guernsey. I am sure they are all connected, but haven't yet been able to find out where - the English records are not comprehensive enough to find a definitive link. I regularly get in touch with Graham, and vice versa, to assist one another. Best of luck, Dave

My great-great-grandfather was Napolean Augustus Guille. I have his US passport, signed by the US Secretary of State, and issued c 1830. Many endorsements from travel to France. N.A. Guille's daughter (Hattie? -- her name escapes me just now) married Frank Nicholas Wedge, my great grandfather. His son, William Guille Wedge (my grandfather), moved from Zanseville, OH to NYC, where his descendents live: my father, Nicholas William Guille Wedge, and myself. Let's talk about the Guille/Wedge connection in Zanseville, OH. I have several late 18th and early 19th Century original Guille documents, one a lengthy business contract in Catalan (Spanish dialect), granting certain franchises from royal family members; others are many autogrpah letters. My father also has Guille original documents, including what I believe to be N.A. Guille's father's French medical diploma, signed by Emperor Napoleon III of France.

I really enjoyed your website. I am doing a speech on Grindstone Mountain and about Andros Guille. I hope you don't mind! My family and I live at the base of Grindstone for about 14 years and have loved exploring it. I have visited the gravesite on the mountain. The marker is lovely, by the way. I heard about Andros Guille through my grandmother, who has lived here since my mother was very little, and from Marjorie Anderson, an old woman I used to visit when I was little who also wrote a short paper about the history of Grindstone. Anyway, I was excited when I found your website and thoroughly enjoyed reading about your family. I hope that you don't mind my doing a speech about your relative. Don't worry, it will be all good information. Thank you for your beautiful website.

At present I feel like a "lost person". My greatgrand father William Allen was from western NC. Would you have any information that might benefit me? Any is sincerely appreciated. Hello,we have only just begun to research our family tree.We have some information dating between 1644-1835, but more particularly as of 1854, when Martin Guille arrived in Australia. We suspect from some of the names mentioned on your web site, that we may very well be related. By the way, congratulations on the way you have presented your web site. Bye for now...

What great information, this is such exciting stuff i've got a job to type! We have just gone on line and this is one of the first sites we've visited, so after finding your page we are keen to find out more about our Guille family line. My husband Christopher George Guille's father now deceased was Gavin Edward George, his Grandfather was Albert Henry and his Great Grandfather was called Abraham,
it was Albert who came from Guernsey to Somerset-England
my husband knows a little more about why Albert left the island and what happened to him there after but he is at work, I'm sure he will be on line as soon as he comes home.

Loved this! We've been genealogy buff for years. Since my dad's father Fred Miller married Mintie Blanch Miller, we have a lot of confusion sometimes, but have trace great great grandmother Frances Large Miller back to Henry IV and the Plantagenets. It's fun and I am now in contact with great grandkids of all the siblings ofmy great grandpa, James McMurtry Miller, once the second largest sheep rancher in SE NM. We've possibly finally gotten back beyond his father, Samuel Minter Miller, to Rev. War payrolls for his father or grandfather. Mintie's relatives had their line done in 1938 and it goes back to 1513 in Germany--don't know where we'll go from there, but with the fall of Berlin Wall, that area has opened up to Mormon genealogists and we anticipate some help from their new files.

I just received a letter of introduction from Graham Guille and was excited to find that there are many Cousins in the family. I have promised Graham additional information on my branch and would be willing to share this knowledge with you if you are interested.
To the best of my knowledge, my Grandfather Walter J. Guille came to this country from Sark and settled in the Long Island, New York area. He was married to Marie Dunn of Virginia (possible connection ?)and may have spent time in Virginia that I am not aware of.
If there are any questions I might be able to help with, please let me know and I will do my best.

Well done! I have been dabbling in genealogy for a while and have a web site of sorts. As soon as we get into our new house here in Scottsdale I will be back at it. My computer and most of my files have been in storage since we left Bellevue last September. I have been surviving with only a laptop for almost eight months. Your efforts are an impetus to me to get on with it.

I finally got commissioned in 78 as CWO-2 and went to the surface fleet. I retired from Nav Sta S.D. in '83 as CWO-3 and moved back to Ark. Presently I am a Quality Engineer at DeVilbiss Air Power Co. in Decatur Ar. Hope to really retire in about 2 years in Branson Mo. We have already bought a house there and go up on weekends.
