Surname(s) Researching in Antigonish McMillan
Comments:
There is an Archibald McMillan listed in the 1838 Antigonish (Dorchester Township) Census Records. I believe he died before the 1861 Census. I can find only one other reference to Archibald in a marriage record at Saint Ninian's Cathedral; a marriage between Alexander McRae and Margaret McMillan on February 21,1871. Margaret's parents are mentioned as Archibald McMillan and Sarah McEachern; Alexander's parents are Duncan McRae and Jessie Chisolm. I'd love to find some more info on these four parents.

This is an update on the query I posted last June. Angus son of Angus Ban moved his family from Giant's Lake to the St. Andrew's area of Antigonish after the death in 1873 of his wife Sarah. Eight children. Angus remarried an Elizabeth. I believe she was a widow. Several of the children moved to the Boston area. Two sons, John and Alexander, made their way to the Sheet Harbour area. One of the daughters married a J p Laming. The youngest son John Angus returned to Nova Scotia and died in St Martha's hospital in 1938.

Surname(s) Researching in Antigonish Leblanc (Felix and Sophy)
Comments:
My grandmother, Elizabeth Ann White was born, according to her death certificate in Harve Bouche. That certificate also lists her parents as Felix and Sophia (Curney) White. We have reason to believe that when Elizabeth and her Brother? John immigrated to Massachusetts, the last name was changed to White. The 1901 Canada census lists a Felix and Sophy Leblanc living in Linwood with their two children, Peter and Lena. The birthdates of Elizabeth and John fall precisely within the sequence of birthdates of Peter and Lena. A very good fit. Any help or guidance would be appreciated. And thanks!

I am seeking information on Angus Ban MacDonald pioneer. He could first have arrived in PEI in the company of Lauchlan MacDonald and family ( about 1790 ). They later moved to Antigonish. Lauchlan settled in Lower South River I'm not certain of the relationship between Lauchlan and Angus Ban. Lauchlan may have been father or brother. Lauchlan was the father of Christina ( married to John Cameron ). Their son Bishop John Cameron may have been the cousin of Angus son of Angus Ban. By 1853 Angus ban and son Angus were living at Giant's Lake , Guysborough. I believe Angus Ban had other children. Angus ban would be my great great great grandfather.

Hello,
is there anybody who can tell me something about the deep of the water in the tracadie harbour west arm? I want to anchor with a cape islander between the Petitpas-Island and the Island with the Bowman Head (Westside of Tracadie Big Island). There are two access to the open atlantic there and I want to go around the petitpas island with my fishing-boat.
Is it possible to swim there (especially between the petitpas island and the south oceanfrontside of the Bowmanhead-Island)?

How are the low and the high tides there?

Robert MCDONALD 1805-1889, son of Finlay/Philip MCDONALD & Elizabeth ANDERSON
1833 = Catherine MCDIARMID.

Robert arrived about age 19 from Lairg Sutherlandshire to 'New Scotland' . He worked at his uncle Hugh MCDONALD's store at Lower South River then moved to Cape George where he cleared land for the beginnings of a farm. In the 1891 census he is listed as Postmaster, Deacon in the Church, Justice of the Peace, merchant, farmer and one of the first citizens of Cape George. He was considered a successful businessman. He spoke the Gaelic and, as well, his mastery of the english language was excellent, as was his penmanship. There were 11 children . Robert's property was part of an original land grant to John GRAHAM, The house was the location of the Post office for 79 years, beginning with Robert MCDONALD. The below MacDonalds were in this group of disbanded soldiers after the American War. I like to hear from anyone related to any of the below MacDonalds, in particular, to those related to John through his youngest son, Hugh (Ewen)

"When these disbanded Highlanders of the 84th Royal Highland Emigrant Regiment discovered that the land they were granted at Kennetcook could not support them, they wrote to the Governor of Nova Scotia, John Parr, and petitioned him for land in Pictou County."

From the webpage of Pictonians at home and abroad and the Early Settlers of the East River
http://www.rootsweb.com/~nspictou/Pictonians_ch_1.htm

"In 1784, a settlement of disbanded soldiers (of the 84th Royal Highland Emigrant Regiment) was made further up the river. They came to Pictou at the close of the American War. They were, originally, from the Highlands of Scotland.

Situated on the west side of the East River at Glencoe, Pictou County, is a memorial Cairn bears this inscription on its North face:
JOHN A. MACDONALD
AND HIS FOUR SONS
DUNCAN JAMES
ALEXANDER EWEN
ALL OF THE 84th ROYAL
HIGHLAND REGIMENT
WHO SERVED WITH THE
LOYALISTS IN THE
REVOLUTIONARY WAR OF 1776

DESCENDANTS OF JOHN MACDONALD OF GLEN URQUHART, SCOTLAND
A SURVIVOR OF GLENCOE 1692

John McDonald (Iain Mac Eoghainn Oig) was born at Glenurquhart and belonged to the Glencoe MacDonalds. At the time of the Glencoe Massacre, 1692, one of the MacDonalds fled to GlenUrquhart and settled there. John MacDonald was a grandson or great grandson of that man. He was about eight years in the Royal Highland Emigrant Regiment, and three of his sons fought with him in the Revolutionary War on the Loyalists' side.
He was married twice. By his first wife Jannet(?), he had Duncan 20 Feb 1740-Loget), Alexander (26 Nov 1742-Loget), Mary and Christy. By his second wife, Margaret Grant, he had James, Ewen (Hugh), Ann, and Helen (Ellen), twin girls born on 2 July 1772 at Drumnadrochit, Glenurquhart, Inverness-shire.

Hi:
My 2x great-grandfather was Allen Cummins/Cummings a Scottish emigrant from Perthshire. He lived for a long time in Springfield or close to what it now known as the Polson's Brook Road, before being granted land in Eight Island Lake in 1867. He was married to Annabella MacAuley, the daughter of Ebenezer MacAuley a Scottish emigrant from Ross and Cromarty. Does anyone have any information about any of the MacAuley people or the Cummins/Cummings? There are no people in the Upper South River area today with these last names today. Any help would be appreciated and I am willing to share the information that I have gathered.
