My GG Grandparents on my mothers mothers side were Susan Ann Curtis born 1854 Independence Pope Arkansas. She married Solomon Morris born February 1848 Pope Arkansas. They had a son William Sherman Morris born about January 23 1879 in Arkansas who married Rhoda Rebecca Matilda Hurst Williams Curtis born June 1888 in Arkansas. I am hoping you might be related and have more info for me as my mothers side of the family is very tough to research. There was a lot of very close family marriages and my cousins and I have had a few chuckles about it. I see a lot of your relations are in the Spearfish SD and Nebraska area. My wife and I live a few miles out of Verdigre Nebraska were her grandfather Elvin Hamilton lived. She was born in Wagner SD and lived in Lake Andes SD. She went to college in Spearfish and Vermillion SD. I hope to hear back from you. Scott

Sharon--
My grandmother, Adaline Blanche Curtis, was Neva's oldest sister.
I love the picture of Neva and her "two sisters," except they aren't her sisters. Maybe they're Neva's husband's sisters. I have some pictures of the Curtis siblings when they were children that I've cleaned for an Addie and Leo Bachman heritage album. I even have one of the living sibs together a few years before my gramma died. If you'd like copies, I'd be happy to email and send them to you. If you do get them, you'll be able to see that those two women are not Neva's sisters. For one thing, they're way too young.
Anyway, if you'd like the pics, let me know. I sent all of my contact info in an earlier missive. I'm such a screw up at these things, always hitting the wrong keys!

Patocka, Civis, Dvorak How did you find this site? surfing, but have been aware of the book, A History of Czechs (Bohemians) in Nebraska, since I was in high school. How can I improve my site? Thank you for creating the site. Comments:
My grandfather, John Patocka, was listed the book, A History of Czechs (Bohemians) in Nebraska, as one of the April 1885 immigrants to Box Butte Co. He married Anna Dvorak, daughter of Vincenc Dvorak and his wife Annastazie Civis (sister to the Civis brothers) who arrived in 1886. John and Anna Patocka had four children in Box Butte Co. The following spring after Annastazie died (buried near Lawn) during the drought, John and Anna (pregnant), Anna's sister (married to one of the Zajic brothers) began a journey by ox cart to Pine City, Minnesota. My aunt Rose was born at Baird Spring (just west of Sioux City) enroute to Minnesota. The Zajic's stopped at Lucan, Redwood County, MN, where they settled and farmed. John and Anna traveled on to Pine County, MN, where another son (my uncle John, Jr.) was born. After living there for several years, the family traveled again (reportedly by ox cart) to Omaha, where John's sister, Anna Svoboda and family, lived. There he worked in the packinghouse for a few years. My aunt Emma Jahn was born in Omaha. John and Anna and family then traveled by train to the Lake Andes, Charles Mix County, South Dakota area where Anna's father Vincenc Dvorak and brother Joe Dvorak farmed. My Dad, Fred Patocka and his sister Mary (and another brother who died very young) were born in Charles Mix Co. My Dad related that he lived in a sod house about 5 miles south of Lake Andes until he was about 8 years old. They later purchased land a few miles west (approximately 5 miles west and 3 miles south of Lake Andes) where they farmed.

It's a long story but the short version is that a friend had a copy of this book. She gave it to me to read after I asked her to proof read the Czech segment of my family stories. We discovered a notation above the photograph of my great-great grandparents that indicates her great-grandmother lived with them when she taught school. I have never seen this photograph before. Dear Ms. Mach,
I found the info you had provided at the familysearch.org site on the internet--as part of an internet class I am taking at the local library. I was "floored" because the Harris "items" you provided were as though you were doing the same searches I have been doing--with much less success on my part. My great grandfather was the "William Harris" mentioned as a child of John & Polly Harris. William was the father of my grandfather, Frank. I am assuming that Jesse Harris of Spokane is in your "line" of Harris'.
I don't have much to "trade", information wise, but if you would reply, I would like to hear what happened with the family that went "west" if in fact, my assumption is correct.
sincerely,
john frank harris--troy, Michigan 248 879 1652

I think my previous post on your guest book is for a different Josiah Conant. After further research, I find that the Josiah Conant in my document is the 4th child of Nathanael and Hannah (Mansfield) Conant of Bridgewater, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.
This son was born and christened on 27 November 1680 in Beverly, Essex Mass. He died 1 October, 1721 in Middleborough, Plymouth Mass. This is the same township that the land was purchased. Josiah Conant in your ancestry was born on a different date and died in Connecticut.
In those days there are many, many family members given the same firswt name. Sorry for any confusion that I may have caused.

We have Capt Torry in our family tree as well, and I think we may have diverged with the Daniel Torry next generation down or so, because having a Daniel each generation seems to be a family tradition.
Our Torrys come from Combe St. Nicholas in Sommerset, as well, and I visited back in '75. My cousin, Daniel, has been more recently and spoke to some of the local decendents of our common ancestors.
The Torrys linked with the Boyds through a Samantha Amanda Torrey who married into the Boyds... not sure of the dates; my cousin, Daniel, has the information at present, though I'm beginning to gather information on both sides.
Feel free to e-mail me.

I am related to the Torrey's that (I believe) started in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. then to Ill then to Kansas. I know my 3x great grandfather was Nicholas James Torrey and his Father was Ira Torrey(no birth date:-() but.......I can't seem to go beyond that. Where should I look. I can't afford websites that want you to pay before you even know that the people they have listed are your people.
I have been able to get information on the generatiy of people that have web sites like yours:-)
My main drive is also to know the Torrey's "background" I don't know if they are english, german or what ever. I just have one photo of my grandfather Torrey, and he doesn't look English to me!
Thank you for reading my note.

Just curious, there are only a few Kummers in the Netherlands. I searched in Google for the name Kummer. We, my wife Annet and I have two children, Lynn and Brent. I found out that there are more Lynn's and Brent's Kummer. I could never find out where the name Kummer finds its origin. I believe it is Switzerland? I know that my great grandfather was dutch and he was married in Indonesia with an indonesian woman. My grandfather was killed during World War II. He was taken prisoner by the Japanese and the ship he was on was torpeded. My parents came to Holland in 1952. My father died 32 years ago. His name was Carl Wasingah Abraham Kummer. He had two sisters.
I have one brother Charles Erwin. He is not married, no children. It seems I have "family" in the United States.
It would be nice if you could contact me.
With kind regards,
Ronald Kummer

I really enjoyed the pictures. It was great to see my grandparents again. I lived with them (along with my sister Mary) for a year while the 2 of us attended St. Ludger school in Creighton. My parents wanted us to attend a Catholic school, but it just didn't work out -- for us kids to be "farmed out" to the relatives. Plus I can remember the kids in that school being very unfriendly - since we were "out-of-towners".
