I just purchased and older "Georgian Colonial" home and am restoring it. I heard that it originally belonged to the Seabaugh Family and was built in the early 1900's.
I have only been here a month but have found Cape to be a very friendly and beautiful place to live

This city is going down the gutter along with SEMO. I think the city should take dramatic changes if they want people to come to Cape. All of Capes historical areas are either run down and abandoned. I think it is a shame that this city is so poorly run.

I am researching the James Dunn family that was supposed to have lived in Cape Girardeau in the early to middle 1800's.
James Dunn married Jane Micenhammer. Their son was my great grandfather, his name was Warren "War" Esle Dunn. Later War moved to Clay county Arkansas and is in the 1880 and 1900 census there. He died in 1910.

My mother, Helen E. Ramsey Riley, grew up in Chaffee, Mo. Her Ramsey line is of the John Ramsey's, brother to Andrew Ramsey, who settled in the Cape area. My Grandfather, Vern Ramsey, married Minnie S. R. Geiser from Dutchtown and decended from the Swiss settlers at Dutchtown. Vern Ramsey is also descended from the Thompsons of Egypt Mills (Elizabeth Thompson,August Thompson, James Thompson and John Washington Thompson), as well as the Williams on whose land the Old McKendree Chapel was built (Cynthia Ann Williams, Squire Williams, William Williams).

Researching my family tree I came across ancestors who lived in the area of Cape Girardeau with surnames of DOWTY, RODNEY and LORIMIER. I visited the area this summer and really enjoyed it, especially knowing they are rebuilding the RED HOUSE where one of my ancestors lived (the founder of the city of Cape Girardeau, a very interesting character to read about).

David Hahn/Hawn (1802-1846) died in Cape Girardeau Co. He was married to Emelia Craddock (1808-aft 1850). They had 5 children; I don't know if the county lines moved, or they moved, but most of the next generation seems to be in Bollinger Co.
Would love to correspond with anyone who has anything on these families in SEMO!
Barbara
