Charles McClendon and Winney ? are my gg grandparents. They came from GA to MS and were large land owners in Lowndes Co., MS.
I don't know Charles McClendon's father or mother's names, only that they came from GA. Charles had brothers, Joel, Lewis, Columbus, William and sisters Angeline, Catherine, Mary and Frances. Burnah is thought to be one of his sisters also.

I am looking for pictures of Cassidy Park as it was in the early 1940's or late 1930's.
As a small child around 1945, I can remember it as a wonder place. A place to swim in the creek, a sunning platform in the middle of the creek, the concrete steps going down to the water on both sides of the creek and the lamps at the top of the steps. I remember animals such as an eagle and a bear. I remember a big cover dance area. There places to grill and picnic tables.
The last time I was in Bogalusa I went to the park and looked for the steps. I could bare find them. It is a shame that the people of Bogalusa do not rise up and get the creek clean up. There are laws about polluting water.
I remember many pleasant days as a young man wading and fly fishing the creek. Its all gone. And you want to dam up the creek for a lake. People get out and walk over some of the land that will be covered by water, if this dam mess goes through. There is no more land and every time we cover some with water it is gone. The small swamp along this creek is simply beautiful. Don't drown it.
Sorry I got to preaching. I just love that creek.
I remember watching free movies in the park on Avenue B. Does anyone have picture of the stage and covered seating in the park?

We have talked before on the Bogalusa page, but I lost contact with that one. I live in La Place and still have family in Bogalusa, I was in BHS class of 1961. I have not had time to see the trees for myself, but have an idea what it looks like. We had trees down here in La Place, but were spared the house damage. I have a trailer park and rent furnished trailers to construction worker--25 years now. Thank you very much for posting the post-Katrina pics. I am in upper East Tennessee and the main part of my family is in Bogalusa, including my father. I have been able to contact only 1 family member, an aunt, Faye Jenkins on West 8th Street. The damage is so bad that I can not identify any of the streets or buildings. I was born and raised there, and my paternal grandparent are interred in Ponemah Cemetary. I have bookmarked the forum site and keep chicking daily to see update. "Harry W. Pine, of Bogalusa, was second lieutenant in the 353rd Infantry. On October 4, 1918, the regiment was before the town of Haumont, which was being stubbornly defended. In order to effect the capture of the place, Lieutenant Pine took a patrol of eight men and undertook to gain entrance. He worked his way through the enemy outposts and had almost reached his goal when he encountered a German patrol. He unhesitatingly attacked and defeated the foe. It has been suggested that Samuel's father is Wright McLemore, but I have no proof. The 1850 Lincoln Co, Ky census shows Samuel with mother Eliza, no father listed, but a 3 month old child. The 1840 Lincoln Co, Ky census only lists a Wright McLemore. I can find no proof that he was Eliza's husband. Another suggestion is that Samuel's father is a child of John McLemore who married Ruth Steelman on 7 Apr 1810 in Surry Co, NC. Can't find their children. Can anyone help.
