My great great grandmother's name is Clotilda Crabtree, maiden name Byerly. She was born in 1912 in Goodrich. She tells me about it every day. She has many many wonderful pictures from her time there. I even found her brother-in-law's yearbook of 1900. I live in Roseburg Oregon and so does my grandmother. If you are interested in these pictures please e-mail cbacken@hotmail.com. I just thought you might be interested.

I was trying to find the person to contact to see if the Museum would like some old school books from the old grade school.
My mother, Pauline Koontz Worthington "rescued" many of the books before the old Grade School was torn down.

I also have pictures of my Grandparents home (Ed and Bertha Koontz) when they lived there. Could you use one?

Whenever I come home I always try to make it to Parker to visit the museum and walk through my Grandparents home again. It always brings back so many wonderful memories.

If the books could be utilized, please let me know. One has J.L. Ruble's Drug Store's name stamped on the inside cover.

My father and Uncles had the K & W garage.

I've enjoyed looking at the Historical Society's web site.
I'm sending along copies of the pictures to my Uncle, Don Koontz who now lives in Littleton, Colorado.

I just want to make you aware of my site in case you ever had a need to search for local history, or if you had any suggestions for how to make it more useful to potential homebuyers, researchers and history buffs.

Go ahead and tell the story of your home at http://www.storyofmyhome.com/atlanta.html.

Wonderful site. I am researching Rockwood, Lemon, Cady, and Dysart families. They are all my ancestors. It was neat to see information on so many of them and where they lived. If anyone has any information on Georgia May Wachab Hansen I would appreciate it greatly. She was married to Cady Ira Lemon, son of Ira Nelson Lemon and Eva G. Cady (my great, great, great grandparents), in 1947 in Iola, Linn, Kansas. She was born 1896 and died Nov. 27 1957 and buried in Cadmus Cemetery. I don't know where she was born or who her parents are. I am assuming she was previously married to a Hansen and her maiden name is Wachab. Thanks in advance for any information.

Mr. Oldham formerly lived in the eastern part of Cedar county and for nine months during the war served in the Enrolled Missouri Militia in Capt. Simmons’ company.

I would be most interested in any means of locating a local obituary for John H. I enjoyed looking at the old pictures of Parker. My Dad, Jim Logan, grew up in Centerville and went to high school at Parker. He was an outstanding athlete, excelling in every sport he attempted. He never talked about himself much, he was very modest.

I enjoyed looking at Parker the way it was when he was a youngster. I have only seen it driving through on the way to Centerville, during the last 40 years. I had not seen pictures of Parker when it was a booming town.

Thanks again,

I am looking for any and all photographs of my family's store, I have heard it most frequently called " The Polley Store" and if you have photographs then you probably know it regardless of what it may be called. I am also looking through what our family already has, but I hope there are more out there.

I am hoping for pictures of the inside with or without family members, but at this point I welcome anything showing my ancestors, Harold, Herman, Ransom, etc. I would also like to see a good photo of Main street looking east or west hopefully including at least part of the storefront.

Ransom Scott Polley, born 12-28-04, is named after my Great-grandfather Ransom E. Polley. I want to get information so in a few years I can tell him about who he is named after.

Thanks one and all.

Greetings,

I have sent emails to Ken Prentice and to Wayne and Shirley Osborn that have been returned as undeliverable. Probably a technical glitch. Anyway, I exchanged family information with the Osborns awhile back. Since then, I have discovered data on Benjamin D. Husted’s second wife that I presume will be of interest to the Osborns. If you could get this information to them and perhaps get us back in contact, I would appreciate it very much.

The content of my original message follows.

Thank you,

Vern Paul
vp@vernpaul.com
Dublin, Ireland

My email to the Osborns:

After much searching, you can see from the subject line that I finally found Melissa's family. I also found the elusive Mr. Williams [her first husband] but in name only "John" Williams is nearly as difficult to trace as Williams by itself. He had a sister, Arilda Matilda Williams, who married Melissa's brother, Isaac S. Rutledge. The families were in Vernon Co., Missouri, and got caught up in the troubles. Melissa's father, Fletcher L. Rutledge, was so badly beaten that he was left an invalid the remainder of his life. They left Missouri for Linn Co., Kansas, where Melissa's brother, Isaac, joined the Union Army. He was transferred to an Illinois Regiment and died from pneumonia near Sedalia, Missouri, in December 1861. His wife apparently died within the year and there were no children. I suspect John Williams also died or was killed during the war, but there are so many John Williamses that I can't sort them out with any certainty.

Fletcher and Ann/Anna Deck Rutledge were in Anderson Co., Kansas, in 1880. Ann was in Astoria, Wright Co., Missouri by 1890 and lost thereafter. Fletcher owned land in Wright County, so I presume he was there sometime between 1880 and 1890. Ann applied for a pension based on Isaac's service. She abandoned the claim in the 1890's. Possibly she died around then, but there is no reference in the pension file. I can send more on their ancestry.

I like the web site. It's fun to look at the names and faces of people I hadn't seen in years. I used to make my spending money selling eggs to Polley's Store. I took piano lessons from Mrs. Dysart. Can't remember her first name, but her husband was Buck. Is there anyone out there who went to Goodrich to grade school? The school closed after my 6th grade year and I finished up in Parker and Prairie View. Even got to sit on the bench for the state champion football team!

A friend of mine is a docent at the library on K.U.'s campus in Lawrence. He took us on a private tour and among the paintings we saw was one by Streeter Blair, who grew up near Cadmus, Kansas. He was quite a well-known painter. His style is called primitive. One of his paintings is of the home where he grew up and this scene was painted from memory. He lived in California for sometime and he and his wife owned an art gallery, which burned down. I cannot remember whether he is still living or not. I just wondered if anyone might know anything about him. I thought it was very interesting that a famous painter grew up in the Cadmust community. If you type his name in your address line, a website will come up. If anyone knows anything about him, where he went to school, etc. please post it or send to my e-mail address.

It has been a couple of years since I have visited the website. You have made a lot of good changes. I enjoyed the pictures and the history. How well I remember going to Parker on Saturday night and walking up and down the sidewalk, visiting Mr. Tyree's grocery store for a sack of candy which my friends and I ate on our numerous trips around the block. My maternal grandparents, Chan and Lillian Collins owned a creamery business at one time (on Main street, I believe). I do not remember the name of the business.

I made my first visit to your Web site today and what a great time I had. What a fantastic service. Both of my parents graduated from PRHS, plus some other relatives and longtime family friends and acquaintances. I was born at Paola but my parents lived in Parker at the time. I claim to be a Parker native. My congratulations and compliments to Ken Prentice and anyone else who had a hand in developing the Web site. It is providing a valuable service. I'm sertainly going to pass along the Web site address to a couple of relatives who would be highly interested. Again, congratulations. I know I'll visit the site more in the future. Thank you.

I'm a decendent of the Redding Family that settled in Parker around 1882. Jesse and Anna Redding (my great, great grandparents) are buried in Goodrich Cemetery. Does your society know of a published account of people's names buried in Goodrich Cemetery that would include birth/death dates, like that information on tombstone inscriptions? Thanks, great web site - keep up the good work.

What a find to see all you have done to get Parker's history on the www.

My great grandfather was Charles Miller Grove. Until I discovered your web site I had no idea he served as Parker City Clerk 1900-1906. I was aware he was a jeweler repairing watches for the most part. Do you have any other references to the Grove family in Parker? I believe they left Parker in 1940 and made it as far as Wichita on their way to California. I have all the descendants of Charles Miller Grove in my genealogical research.

I was also pleased so see the listing of Parker High School graduates. I found my grandfather John Edwin Grove, listed in 1924. Two of his sisters are also listed Fern in 1909 and Lotchen in 1920. His older brother Kenneth is listed in 1915. You might want to correct the spelling of Lotchen's name on the web site.

The pictures are also a great find I will share them with my aunt who was born in Parker in 1928 and now lives in Marian, KS.

My family were raised in Parker. I have been to your museum and saw many school photos that had my family members. I would like to get a good digital camera to take pictures of them. Are you looking at posting more of the Parker photos than you have now?

In the picture taken in Polley's store in 1958, the people are, left to right, Harold Polley, Herman Polley, Clarence "Pete" Crouch, Phil Polley, John Franse, Florence "Toots" Troutman, ???, ????. I remember this picture being taken in early afternoon in the spring of '58, but I cannot identify the 2 people on the right.

Thank you for all the work you do keeping the history of Parker alive.I particuraly enjoyed the old picture of the grade school. The customer in the bank picture could have been my Dad, Harry Alexander. Judging only by the profile. The Polly store picture has Harold and Herman polly behind the counter. I am sure you knew that. Congradulations to all of the board for a job well done. And to Ken Prentis, a really great job on the web page. Thanks agaain, H.Lowell Alexander PRHS class of 60

In the photo of Polly's Store, 1958, the fourth man from the left looks like my father, Wiley Smith and the woman on the far right looks like my mother, Leah Adams Smith. I can't be positive, the picture is a little blurred on my computer. I was born in 1958, and my grandparents were Roy Lee (Pokey) Smith and Mary Tout Smith who lived in the first house just east of the RR tracks.
