Warren Co. Surnames Jesse Thompson to Sarah Ann Edwards
Comments:
Hello,
My 7th and 8th great grandfather are named Benjamin Williams, my ancestry.com account says my 8th great grandfather married Elizabeth Jennings. But my question is concerning Benjamin Sr.'s parents, when I first looked on ancestry, I came up with Samuel Thompson and Sarah Williams, but they were to young to be the parents. It also said Sarah Williams father was Roger Williams with no birth or death. I found Samuel on your page but the closest wife was Sarah Ann Edwards, which she never had a son named Ben. Lastly, I found a random marriage record identifying this Sarah Williams as a.k.a. Sarah Shepard, whom I come to find on your site. Benjamin Sr. also had a nickname, "Butts", I believe. I'm kind of lost, please help.

I am a folklorist who recently discovered the graves of 19 chain gang prisoners who drowned in the Tuckaseigee River near Dillsboro in 1882. The prisoners were buried in unmarked graves on a nearby hillside. I recently learned that one of the men was Moses Brown from Warren county. I am looking for descendants of Moses Brown who was on the Census for 1880, age 28, living in Six Pound. Can you help me?

Comments:
I'm not sure what you think a Slave Schedule is, but they do not show slave names, nor the names of Plantations. If you've looked at the 1850 & 1860 Warren Co. Slave Schedules for the surname of ELLIS, you will notice there was just one Slaveowner by that name, SUMNER J. ELLIS. Once you know that name, that is where you start researching his family's records, including wills, deeds & estate records to find the names of their slaves for him and his parents or other previous relatives to follow the trail of what slaves were exchanged. Those are the records that slave names are located. One does NOT look for Slaves by only looking for Plantation names, since it was rare, if ever, that those were named in records. If you are new to researching and need some kind of guidance, please check out our "Research Help & Lookup Page", scroll down to RESEARCHING INFORMATION, and go to one of the sites that instructs on how to both "Getting Started with Family History", and "Beginners Guide to African American Research".

HI, I have been searching the web for plantations within Warren County that were owned and operated by an Ellis. I've found three names (Stephen, William & Obediah) but no location nor a slave schedule with names of slaves. Was there any record of a fire that could have eliminated these records or just a complete lost?

I am searching for the parents of Ann Wilson born 1798 in Warren Plains, Warren County NC. She married James Saintsing in October of 1830 in Warren County. She died in May of 1882 and is buried in Wake County. I was told by my grandmother that she was a full blooded Cherokee Indian. I'm not sure how accurate that is.

James' brother John Saintsing also married a Wilson (Susannah), not sure if there is any relation, her parents are unknown as well.

If anyone has any information they would be willing to share it would be greatly appreciated. I have hit a major brick wall.

Seeking information regarding the death of Abner Shearin, and his surviving children.

I have found through my research that he died in 1824 in Halifax County, and that he died without a will but that court documents from the county court of February of that year establish a connection between he and his son, Elijah Davis Shearin.

I am preparing an application to the Sons of the American Revolution, and this is the final link I must establish.

Thanks!

Hello from Barcelona!

I am from the Democratic Republic of Congo (Africa). Please excuse my bad English, as my ordinary language is French.

According to a Family Tree DNA's ADN test I might be related to an African American family whose members live in Norlina, Warren, North Carolina. I have done research in Ancestry.com and discovered that one of this African American family's ancestors is probably Willis Fields, born in 1857, in Virginia. His spouse was Lucinda (I don't know her surname), also born in Virginia, about 1862. They married in 1876. In 1900, they lived in Sassafras Fork, Granville, North Carolina. One of their sons, Edward, was born in 1892. Other sons were: Abbie, Sallie, James, Rose, Willie.

I have not found more information about Willis Fields. For example, I don't know his ancestors' names and origins.

I would like to write my family's history and try to integrate in it the history of members who could have been taken to America as slaves. One of the questions of this history is to know if these possible slaves from my family left Africa from one of the ancient Congo's Atlantic ports or from other African countries'Atlantic ports.

I would be very grateful if you could help me to establish Willis Fields' genealogy.

Sincerely,

Jean Bosco BOTSHO

Looking for information on Nancy or Meredith Lynch. She married RB Cates and his wife was Lucretia. I believe they may be brother and sister although their children did marry in 1880. Nancy was born about 1831 and Meredith was born about 1827. He and Lucretia had daughters, Mildred, Nannie Elizabeth, Mary and Ellen. The Warren County Marriage records show a marriage between Nannie Elizabeth and William Ansil Cates in 1870. That shows Meredith alive and Lucretia deceased. It shows Nancy alive and RB Cates deceased. There is a marriage in 1890 between WA Lynch and Lucy Moore showing his parents both deceased. I assume Meredith to be a middle name maybe but find no death record for him. I also don't know what WA stands for as his son but dont find he and Lucy Lynch anywhere after the marriage. I would appreciate any leads. Thanks

To the person who posted about their African American Marriage Records. Please note that Marriage Bonds were only used from 1779 - 1868, therefore a marriage taking place in 1877 wouldn't be in that database. There is another Marriage Database on the Warren Co. site that covers through 1900, and you will find your grandfather's marriage record included in those transcriptions.

My great grandfather, William Fleming and great grandmother, Louvenia Jones' marriage certificate was located in Warrenton at the register of deeds office, however, neither name was on the African American marriage listing on this website. They were married in 1877 in Nutbush Township, Warren County. How do I have their names added to your listing?

George Ray or Wray bought land in 1778 in Bute co NC which became Warren co NC in 1779. I was able to find the deed from where he bought the land and the deed from where he sold the land to a John Moore in 1789. I am trying to find where the land was located and can not find a detailed map that would show the creeks if they even still exist. The deed said Myrick's Mill Creek and Rogers Branch and mentions a Christipher Robertson who apparently lived in the area. Would anyone know where this land was located or where I could fin a map that would show the creeks? Thanks,Ross

Indiana Askew/Ayscue Macon was my gggrandmother. Her death certicate states she was born in 1822 but I believe she was born in 1842. In a 1894 petition for the sale of land by the grandchildren of Benjamin Askew, she is listed. Benjamin's will created in 1837, lends to his son, John D. Askew (Indiana's father) 150 acres of land. Upon John D's death the land is to be sold and distributed to Benj. grandchildren. Benjamin's will 1837 also makes provisions for his father, William Askew (who on the 1840 census is noted as receiving a pension due to service in the Revolutionary War; he served in NC State Militia.

I would like to find any information about William, Benjamin and John D Askew/Ayscue.

Would anyone know if there are any books about Warren co NC about the time of the American Revolution that might mention any military activity going on in Warren co NC and the attitude of the people living there at that time? My ancestor was George Wray (Ray) who left Brunswick co Va in 1778 and went to Bute co NC where he bought land in 1778. Bute co NC became warren co NC in 1779. Warren co NC was the county just south of Brunswick co Va. I can not find where George founght in the Revolutionary War although he was born probably in the 1740's possibly in Virginia but I am not sure. There was a Baker Wray or Ray that owned land that joined George's land. Would anyone know if there was a reason that people moved to Warren co NC about the time of the American Revolution? Was it an area where there was no fighting going on or maybe where Loyalists moved to? George had a wife and children and so did Baker Wray. I am sure many men with families back then left wehre they lived and moved to areas they thought there might not be as much fighting so maybe their families would be safer. Ross

A branch of my family in Daviess County, KY (Owensboro)had the Pegram surname. The only one I knew was Mrs. Joseph Duncan Pegram (nee Sallie Magruder). She was a great, old-fashioned lady; her husband, Joseph, died in 1935, so I never met him.
I understood he had farmed in a place called "Brown's Valley" near Owensboro, Ky., & was also an itinerant photographer. There don't seem to be any more of that family in the area, and unfortunately, no one seems to have inquired as to their origins. I have always thought they probably came from N.Carolina, as many old families in that part of KY seem to have migrated from there in the earlier part of the 1800s, as did my own family, the Hunts.
I am wondering if anyone knows the ancestry of Joseph Duncan Pegram, b.1862, Jefferson Co., KY. Married Sallie B. Magruder 1888 in KY; d. 24 Aug. 1935 in Daviess Co., KY.

How to I obtain permission to post interments, pictures of the church, and headstones for Reedy Creek Baptist Church to the FIND A GRAVE website? (link below)

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=lo&GScid=2303247&

Find A Grave is a world wide genelogy project, and I would like to be able to load and photograph this church's grave sites.
My greatgrandfather is buried there but there is no identification on his home made headstone. You will not find his name on your list of interments. His name was Elbert "Burton" Ham b. 1831 d. 07/16/1901. He served in the Civil War, was imprisioned two times, and lost his hand during combat. The veteran's administration will issue a headstone if, I have someone to receive it, and place it on his grave. I will be completing this task as soon as possible.
Mostly, I just need to know I have permission to go out and photograph, list and post all interments.
Thank You,
Carolyn W. Hendley

Comments:
I'm searching for the parents of Isaac Short born 1790. I'm not sure where he was born. Isaac married Mary Polly Overby in Sumner Co TN in 1813. Mary Polly was born in VA.

I must share my progress hoping it rings a bell with someone. I have learned that my Short family in Sumner Co TN had ties to the MILAM, BARNARD and ABBOTT families. All can be found in NC in the late 1700 and early 1800s. A recent finding shows that on May Ct. 1792. JOHN SHORT, a 11 yr. old orphan of MARTIN SHORT, dec'd., was bound to John Milam; to be taught business of a planter. John Milam's wife was Elizabeth Short, they married in 1782. Elizabeth's sister Rebecca Short married Drury Milam in 1789. Drury and Rebecca later went on to TN but I don't know when. Jenny Short married Adam Milam in Sumner Co TN in 1805.

Because of the relocation to TN I think the orphan John Short may have been my Isaac Short's brother. John was 11 years old in 1792. Isaac would have been 2 years old in 1792. Someone mentioned that the term *orphan* didn't always mean *without a mother* so I believe Isaac and his mother may have gone to TN with Rebecca and Drury Milam. It's also possible Rebecca and Drury took him in and raised him if his mother was truly deceased.

So what is the relationship of Rebecca, Elizabeth and Jenny to John (and perhaps my Isaac Short)? They may be brother/sister but could also be Aunt/nephew. Otherwords, what is the connection of orphan John's father MARTIN SHORT to Rebecca, Elizabeth and Jenny.

Concerning the deceased MARTIN SHORT, many have said my Isaac Short's middle initial *M* stands for MARTIN but I know for a fact he had a son named Isaac MARTIN Short. As a kid I mowed around his tombstone in the Short Cemetary in Sumner Co TN.

My request goes out to anyone who can elaborate of these familys and elaborate on this information. The key concern is when did the Milams go to TN? Was his mother alive at that time? Who was MARTIN SHORT and where did he come from? And of course, did he have sons John and Isaac? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you...

Would someone be able to help me with the location of land purchased by George Wray/Ray in 1778 in Bute co NC which became Warren co NC in 1779 please. The land was apparently received in a land grant by a Col Edwards in 1759. Thomas Rosser must have bought the land from Col Rosser. George Wray/Ray bought the land from Thomas Rosser in 1778 and the property was in Warren co NC when Warren co NC was formed from Bute co NC in 1779. The description of the land was on Rogers branch to the county line adj Myrick. It did not say Rogers Branch of what creek. I know that is not much to go on but if anyone can tell me whre this property was located in Warren co NC in 1779 it would be appreciated. George Wray/Ray sold the land in 17890 to a John Moore but it did not give a description of the location. Ross

Good Afternoon,

I am searching for information on the African-American Allen's and Boyd's of Warrenton,North Carolina. My Great-Grandfather Joseph Allen was born in Warrenton North Carolina July 1885 to Alice Allen. I don't know if Allen was her birth name or married name. Alice later had a daughter Georgia Allen who was born in 1891 in Warrenton. Some time I am guessing in around 1885 she had a son Charles Allen who was born in Virginia in 1896. In the 1910 census Alice was married to William Boyd and living in Norfolk, Virginia. In the 1920 census Alice and William were back in Warrenton and Virginia my dad's cousin born in 1913 was living with them. I believe William died in 1933 in Warrenton. Alice I am told moved to Baltimore and died there year unknown. I was also told that Alice and William lived on a farm and that Alice had family that owned a grocery store in the 1950's. Alice is believed to have had American Indian ancestry. Joseph's biological father name unknown is believed to have been white; according to my eighty-one year old great aunt.

Thanks so much,
Donna McDowell

Comments:
Looking for information about the Reverend Rooker and his children. Oral tradition says that my ancestor was not his oldest son. So WHO WAS? We think his name was William and was born around early 1782. In Va like Elizabeth.

I am trying to connect the eldest Warren county Rookers to the Rev to see who was brother, cousin or son.
I am trying to go back to 1400 in all my pedigrees and I try to at least two generations out for indirect Rooker women and 4 for the men.
After I get source records for each one I will start a webpage.
I am using Ancestry to get my piles of paper into orderly info.
As I said I found the oldest girl Betty Rooker Reeves born in VA.
But if my guy Jos D was # 4 as tradition holds I am missing a name, or two if the oldest boy wasn't name William after his dad or bro.
Thanks

I am a descendent of Joseph Dorris Rooker who was often in Warren with his father the Rev. John Rooker. Something had them going between York SC and Warren so I suppose it was other family members. His brother John Hawkins Rooker was even born there.
Our oral history conflicts on whether Anna Pollard Hawkins married John in Warren or Northumberland. And if she was born in Warren or Granville. I am one of the few left that remembered enough names to find the Rev. solid. after that I am less sure of connections in my tree.
Is there a way to check local church records from online yet? They are not on the Warren bonds but I dont know if a calvanist would be anyway during that time.

Thank You..

E. D. Oslin was originally from Boydton, VA, where I believe Mr. Boyd also published a newspaper in the 1870's. Family lore says E.D. was bound out as an apprentice printer when he was 15, after his father died in 1873. He came to Florida in the 1880's and founded several weekly newspapers in the 1880's, 1890's and early 1900's. Any information would be appreciated.

William James Powell had a James Samuel Andrew Powell and he married a Henri Ollie Brown. Some say, this is my dad's father, James Samuel, but some also say that John Henry Powell and Theodosha Pruitt Powell had JD Powell, or James Powell and Henri Ollie Brown had him, just not sure.

Maybe John Henry and Theodosha adopted my father, JD?

Jmaes Poe Harden/Hardin was born in NC in 1770 and died in Pike Cty. Ga. in 1851.

Jmaes married (1) Eleanor Davis and (2) Matilda Richards.

I belive their is a connection between the Wilmot Egerton Harris and the James Poe Harden lines are somehow connected.

Wilmot went to Greene Cty Ga and ended up in Pike Cty. Ga, where he died. James Harden/Hardin went to Greene Cty. Ga. about 1810 and moved to Pike Cty around 1834.

Any information about a connection between these two men or about James Harden/Hardin in particular is greatly appreciated. James is a brickwall of mine.

To those of you who have been looking for VAUGHAN links, I have a few tidbits. I am unsure if they will link to anyone but here they are:

My great, great, great grand mother was Lucy B. Vaughan. She was born October 26, 1799 in Lunenburg County,Virginia.
She died on July 3, 1855 in Brunswick County, Virginia.

Lucy the daughter of William Vaughan and Elizabeth Saunders.
Lucy married Turner Saunders December 20, 1820 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. I have their marriage Bible.

Lucy and Turner had the following children:
Mary Eugenia Saunders, Nancy B. Saunders, Martha Ann Saunders, Beverly Brown Saunder(male),and Susanne Saunders.

Mary Eugenia Saunders was my great, great grandmother. She married James Douglas Thomason on May 30, 1855 in Brunswick County, Virginia. Mary Eugenia and Douglas had three sons: A. J. Thomason, Edwin Browne Thomason and James Turner Thomason(died young). Mary Eugenia Saunders died in childbirth (with Edwin)and Martha Ann, Mary's sister reared A. J. and Edwin Browne Thomason. James Douglas Thomason died of injuries in the Battle of Gettysburg.

A. J. Thomason married Pocahontas Lee Taylor of Brunswick County, Va. on December 23, 1871. Pocahuntas was the daughter of Napolean Bonaparte Taylor and Mary Jane Rawlings of Brunswick County, Va. They had nine children, one of which was a daughter named Kate Bernice Thomason.

Kate Bernice Thomason married William Andrew Harris, son of J.J. Harris and Mary Ann Hardy, in Halifax County in 1906. One of their daughters, Dorothy Elizabeth Harris married John Fletcher Vincent, son of James Vincent and Sabella Weaver of Northampton County, NC and Brunwick County, Va.

Dorothy and Jack (J. F.) were my parents.

Maybe there is a link for someone in all of this.

I am searching for any information on Littleberry Moore born abt 1800. I know his children moved from the Warren County--Cannon County TN area. I have oral history with possible links to NC. The obvious starting place to me was Warren County NC. I have always wondered if Littleberry was either a maiden name or an old family name. In the old wills of Warren County NC I found both names! Maybe nothing related, but certainly interesting to me. Ref was to Witnesses of the will of Peter Kimbell: William Moore and Littlebeary White. I would like more information on these two families if anyone knows anything.

I am researching my family tree for an upcoming family reunion. I have some family history that is dated back to 1800's. The family tree starts with Sallie and Kit Christmas (Uncle Kit) and Malinda Powell. The story that has been told by our family elders is that Sallie was Kit Christmas mother, Kit was a slave owner, and Malinda Powell was one of Kit's slaves that he fathered a daughter with. Her name was Roberta. Roberta married Henry Plummer. Together Roberta and Henry had several children: Joe, Mary, Walter, Hattie, Jason, Sue, Nannie, Fannie, Rossie, and Henry Jr. I believe the family church was Greenwood Baptist Church in Warren County. Any history or documentation would be helpful. So far I have been able to find pages from the 1850, 1880, 1890 census listing some of these individuals. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

By his first wife he had 2 girls, his second, my gfather James R. Davis sr. and possible 3rd wife produced 2 boys. In 1924, it is on the marriage certificate of James R Davis Sr. that his father Andrew Davis and wife Nancy Davis were in attendence. The wedding took place in Maryland. James R. Davis Sr. married Margaret Agnus Holehad of Maryland. It was told by the family that all records of this Davis line in NC were burned in a church fire but, I am unable to locate that type of fire in NC through 1925. James R. Warren Co. Surnames Pegram/McKinney & Medearis
Comments:
I have several lost connections within these families. My grandfather lived with the Medearises who had gone to Wayne county Ind because of intermarriages among the McKinneys, Madearises and the Pegrams. My grandfather was Andrew Jackson McKinney. His father was George Jackson McKinney who migrated from N.C. His father is supposed to be Sampson McKinney (death certificate) married to _______Pegram. I can't find Sampson in any offical N.C. records nor his wife's first name. Help!! I think that there are ties to Dempsey McKinney and the Fanny McKinney who married George Pegram. Fanny is a family name. There is a marriage bond record of a George J. Mckinney and Eliza Lancaster in 1839-Guilford Co. This might be him, but no proof. George J. Mckinney is supposed to have 2 children in N.C. but again no proof. Thanks This is a McKinneymaze

Ginger Christmas-Beattie,
I read with great interest your article " An Early American Christmas in The Revolutionary Era" after finding the following:

A New Beginning for North Carolina Masons

Chap IV p3

………..To this invitation six persons responded, including tow of those who had issued it. Brothers Johnson and Scott with Thomas Turner and John Withers, John Burk, and William Elliott convened on May 4th and listened to a reading of the “General Chargeö which had been first delivered December 27, 1749. They agreed to meet again in two weeks in the town of Warrenton.

I believe there is a real chance that John Burk may be my long lost ancestor. My 3rd great grandfather Newton Jasper Burk was a Mason. His father Samuel Burks was born 1799 in Rowan Co. NC. and was in Smith/Warren Co.in 1820 which later became Cannon Co., TN. His first son was named John and it is a name passed to every generation in our Burk family.

Do you have any idea where I could get a copy of the notes you referred to in your article ". We do have meeting notes of the Lodge before 1774 and after 1784 that were uncovered in a storeroom of the Old Bute County courthouse at Warrenton, N.C. in 1908".

This could be a major find for us, as I believe it is not uncommon for Masons sons and grandsons that were also Masons. Your article was excellent, thank you for sharing it.

Need any documented information available about parents and grandparents of Peter Newell, who married Susannah Durham Hail(widow of Dudley Hail)in 1795. He evidently was born in Prince George County, Va. In about 1801 he and Suzannah moved to Kentucky. He lived near John Newell's sons in the 1800 census, but have been unable to find exact relationship. John Newell died in 1792 and left land to his sons, John, Jr., William, David Hyde, and Edward. John, Jr. held a court position of some kind and the family had close ties with the Kemp Plummer family.

Warren Co. Surnames Bobbitt, Bonds
Comments:
My ancestor, Isham Drury Bobbitt, was born in Warren County, N.C. in 1754. According to his Revolutionary War Service Record,Isham entered the service on 1 Feb 1780 and served under the command of a "Captain Christman." They marched to Halifax where Colonel Allen took command of the regiment.

I am trying to determine the full name of Captain Christman and whether or not there is a connection between the Bobbitt and Christman familes as noted in "The Bobbitt Family in America" by John W. Bobbitt. Three of Isham's children married Christman's: Nancy married John Christman (1811); Sarah married Michael Christman(1811); Stephen Bobbitt married Barbara Chrisman(1814). As you will see, the name Christman was written both with and without the 't.'

Can you provide the first name of Captain Christman and/or info regarding a connection to the Bobbitt's?

Thank you,

Judy Roberts

Comments:
I am looking for any info on Benjamin Whitlow, (b. abt. 1785 in Mecklenburg, Co., Va) and Frances Wright who married in Warren County, NC on July 26, 1822. Frances Whitlow shows in the 1830 NC Census in Hawtree District, Warren Co. with a small boy and girl, and another girl age 15-20. Frances does not show again in any Census. Apparently Benjamin died before the 1830 Census, as I have found no record of him after that date.

Susan Whitlow married Guilford Talley, Jr. in Warren Co. on Dec. 22, 1835.

In the 1840 NC Census in Warren County, Major Whitlow, b. about 1804, shows.

Does anyone have any info on any of these Whitlows? Who are the parents of Susan Whitlow; of Major Whitlow? Who are the parents of Frances Wright? (Her marriage bond says "daughter of Ann".

Would be grateful for any info, and would be happy to share.

If I am correct, then after Charles died, Nannie married a Columbus H. Buchanan? Then she died and in the 1930 census, Columbus is shown as a widower living by himself, age 74....and two houses away from his stepdaughter Lucy Mitchell, who is now a widow (had been married to a Bernard Mitchell and lived next door to her mother and step-father (Buchanan) in the 1910 census?

Hi Ginger, First, I want to say thank you to you and all your gang at the Warren County website. You do a fantastic job. It has been a lot of help to me, and I just simply enjoy it so much. So many names I have heard my mother and her sisters talk about during my younger years. One aunt was Tempie Tucker, postmistress at Warren Plains for a number of years, and Mary Tucker Rodwell, wife of Arthur Rodwell, who was the Seaboard Airline Railroad agent for many years also at Warren Plains. Keep up the good work!
I have copies of wills from a great-great grandfather Ransom Walker, and a great-great-great grandfather Daniel Newman. I have a partial copy of a payroll list from the Revolutionary War from "the United States of America to the State of North Carolina" and is for cash paid to Jacob Blunt, Paymaster. I have the first page and the page on which my ancestor, Thomas Paschall, is listed. Paschall was from Bute County, but I do not see any counties named in this list. The Walker will and the Revolutionary War accts. I have recently received from NC State Archives.
Are you interested in having copies of these items? I can type and Email copies to you, but there are words in all that I cannot be sure of. I would like for someone who has had more experience with old copies to check behind me. You will have to instruct me on how to go about this. There may be other items you may be interested in, but this is as far as I am prepared to go right now.
My name is Ray (Poland) Bradshaw, I live in Franklin, VA. I am female--there is confusion because of my name sometimes.

Searching for any information on the Weldon's of Warren County from the period 1775 to 1850. Find record of
William Weldon with wife "Winnie" and would like to know ancestry and decendants. He ran a tavern in the early

Weldon, Sr. with son William Weldon, Jr. Do not know

Ancestry.com indicates a William Weldon of Warren

In Nov. 1821 Jane Smith received a gold medal for scholarship from The Warrenton Female Academy. Jane was the only child of William Rand Smith & Martha Norsworthy of Isle of Wight Co., VA.and was born in 1805. Jane's Norsworthy grandparents were George (one of many by that name) and Christian. Mrs. Kerr took me to the house which had housed the school, and which later became a school for black children. I have always wondered why Jane was in school in Warren County, but is it possible that the George who died in Warren County was her grandfather? Does anyone know the names of the children of the George Norsworthy who was in Warren County?

Looking for information/confirmation of the death of James Lawrence Duke, who married Besty P. Baskerville (dau of George D.) in 1844 in Warren Co. NC. James & Besty had a daughter named Mary Ransom Duke who was my great grandmother. Mary Ransom Duke was born in 1845 in Warren Co and her mother died in April 1850 in Warren Co. Mary then lived with her grandfather George D. Baskerville and they removed to Dinwiddie Co. Va.
I can not find anything on James L. Duke after the 1850 census and in that he was alone. (?) His father was Lewis Parham Duke who married Mary (Polly) Ransom. Any help or suggestions regarding James L. Duke would be most appreciated.

Thank you.

Some Revolutionary era deeds for Bute/Warren Co refer to a "Fowler's Branch" which seems to have been a branch of Hawtree Creek near the Virginia border. Can anyone tell me which Fowler this branch was named for? I am particularly interested in knowing if this Fowler was the father of a Nathan Fowler who in 1785 settled in Wilkes Co., GA along with a number of other former residents of Bute/Warren County, including several of my Jones ancestors. Any information will be appreciated.

Daughters are Mary Carter (wife of Benjamin) and Nanney (Nancey??). His sister ANN is mentioned and wife MOURNING. Dates are guesses based on other records.

John is found earliest in the tax records of Northampton in 1743; Granville1755; Caswell 1777 and 1784. 1790 he is in the Martin Census and the three sons are all in Martin in the 1800 census.

Question? In the will of Gideon H. Macon (wb15 p 6-14 Warren Co. NC 1809) it shows that his “present wifeö is Mary Hartwell Macon and she had 8 children by him. My records show that he married a Mary Green the daughter of William Green and Mary Elizabeth Christmas. The will leaves property to William Macon the grandson of William Green in Green Co. GA. Does anyone know of the marriage to a Mary Hartwell by Gideon Hunt Macon after 1784?
