I've traced back to my Great grandfather, Patrick Higgins, thought to be born abt 1829 in or near Boyle, Co Roscommon. Known (and sourced) facts are that he married Ellen McDermottroe of Copse, Co Roscommon in the Roman Catholic church in Boyle in 1853. At least two children were baptised in that church - Anne in 1854 and Catherine in 1859 (it appears that a son, Daniel, was born and died sometime between 1854 and 1863. The last child born in Ireland was my grandfather, Edward, who was born in the home of Ellen's brother, Edward McDermottroe, of Copse. At the time, Patrick was already in New York City. Civil Registration for son Edward states that his father was a licensed publican. I have been able to trace the McDermottroe side of the family back but have no knowledge of my ggrandfather's place of birth or of his parents or siblings. Patrick's family followed to New York City in 1865 and then on to Illinois almost immediately.
Since Boyle is so close to the border of Sligo, there is a possibility that he may have come from that area or from the area around Boyle in Co Roscommon.
It is also known that there were related Higgins' family, left behind in New York, possibly NYC but I have NO knowledge of them.

My information is sketchy but here it is...
My grandfather was Daniel Higgins who was married to a Margaret Cuddigan. Daniel was the only sibling to stay in cork. They had 8 children, all remained in ireland, Ellen, Michael, Thomas, Peggy, Carmel, Phillip, Patrick & Donie.
Daniels brothers & sisters names were James, John, Phillip, Johanna (Casey) and Mary (unsure about that last name). They all emigrated, so most of this Higgins clan are in the USA.
James M Higgins(b 06/05/1869 - d 22/05/1947). James was married to a Catherine Parker (b 24/10/1872 - d 13/03/1938)
James & Catherine had 2 sons, James M Higgins jr & Phillip H Higgins. There was also 6 grandchildren, one of whom may have been called Kevin. James is buried in St Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.
If anybody can add to this information, particularly from the Providence, Rhode Island area, it would be great.

I'm looking for anyone who is researching JAMES HIGGINS born about 1841. He is on the 1901 Irish Census at UGGOOL, KILMOVEE, County MAYO with wife BRIDGET aged 50 (but maybe should be 60)
On the 1911 Irish Census BRIDGET is a Widow aged 70 still living in UGGOOL KILMOVEE County MAYO. She has a Grandson JOHN HIGGINS aged 7 years living with her who was born in England.
My Uncle JOHN HIGGINS who was born in 1903 at Prescot Lancashire was missing from my Grandfather JAMES HIGGINS'S family on the 1901 UK Census and I am wondering if it is him with his Grandmother on the 1911 Irish Census.
JAMES & BRIDGET HIGGINS may have been my G Grandparents.
I know my Grandfather's father was JAMES HIGGINS (a Farmer)

My great-grand father, James Higgins, arrived in the U. S. from Wexford/Sligo county,during the Civil War era and settled in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, MA. I do not know who James married, but I do know my grandfather, John Timothy HIggins, was his oldest son. Another son was Thomas and a sister named Mary. John Timothy Higgins married Delia L. Murphy and also lived in Dorchester. My father, James Francis Higgins, was their oldest child along with a brother, John J. HIggins, Mary Agnes Higgins and George Andrew Higgins, S. J. Thomas Higgins and Ellen ONeil emmigraed from Ahamlish Parish County Sligo Ireland in 1848. Thomas Higgin's parents were Patrick Higgins and Catherine McCormack from Ahamlish Parish and his grandfather is thought to be Francis Higgins from that same place. Ahamlish parish in County Sligo had multiple Higgins families living there at the time of Griffiths Valuation in 1858. Vital records for Ireland, and specifically County Sligo are now online through the IFHA website.

I'm still looking for information on John and Peter Higgins - father and son. Peter was born about 1840 in New York, but I have no information on John and can't find him in any census after 1850. I know of no siblings for either John or Peter. Peter married Phoebe Flesher in Illinois in 1867. The only clue that John was Peter's father is that is what was stated on Peter's death certificate. No Mother's name was listed.

Michael Higgins (1826) married Ellen (1828) in County Down. They had seven children, all in Ayrshire Scotland, William(1849-1922 in Whitehaven Cumberland), Margaret (1853), Hugh (1856), Robert (1857-1919 tynemouth, Northumberland), Ellen (1860), James (1864) and Micheal (1867).
Robert married Elizabeth Ann Choyce in 1880 in Whitehaven Cumberland and proceded to have five children, Robinson Yeates, William Thomas, Robert Henry, Charles Alfred and Elizabeth Ellen in Cumberland.
Robert (1883 Whitehaven - 1964 Abadaire wales) married Hannah Orrick in Wallsend Northumberland and they had five children, one of whom William Thomas was my father.

I am searching for Nora HIGGINS or she may go by CONNOR (her Mother's maiden name). She was born in Sheffield in 1901 to Edward HIGGINS and Ellen CONNOR. Her Mother died shortly after she was born.
She left Eng 18 September 1930 on the Ship Newfoundland, Furness to come to Canada where her Father was.
She was 27 years of age and next of kin in Eng was her Aunt - Mrs E. Connor, Chesterfield House, Craven Hill Gardens, Paddington.
She returned on 25th May 1937, on the 'Montclare She's put her aunt's address 32 Craven Hill Gdns, London as her address in London. She is listed as a domestic on her papers and the family was RC.
Any help in finding her or how I would go about finding her would be much appreciated.

I should have been more specific in my last comments. I am looking for a John Higgins who supposedly came to NY in the late 1830's or early 1840's with or without wife of unknown name. Their son, Peter Higgins was born in NY around 1940. This from Peter's death certificate. I find a John and Mary listed in the NY 1860 census with a Peter age 19 and someone called Aushar age 16. I can't verify that these are who I am looking for. I can't find John, Mary or Aushar again. I know that Peter was married to Phoebe Flesher in Chatsworth, IL in 1867 and that they had 7 children - Elizabeth, John, Nellie, Adelia, William (my grandfather), James Robert, and Charles, all born in easern IL.
How Peter got to Illinois is a mystery also what became of John.
Any help would be appreciated.

I found my maternal grandmother, Cordelia M. Higgins, in the Higgins pages. Her father was Joseph M Higgins (1920 census) of Oklahoma. After reading all the pages, I cannot locate any information prior to this census. I did, however, find the information on brother David C and sister Orba B. Cordelia M. Higgins died in April, 1973.
My grandmother married George R. House in Oklahoma and they had 14 children. The family moved to California at some point during the 1940s.

On his birth certificate his father is listed as Earl Lois Higgins 28 years old in 1938 when Joseph was born. Earl is listed as born in Charleston WV. We at this point can't find an Earl Higgins in WV. We did find an Earl Higgins born in Canton Ohio 1910 who's father was Jefferson Higgins, Jefferson is listed as being 48 years old in 1910 that would make his birth about 1862. Jefferson Higgins was supposed to have been born in Canton Ohio too. We are trying to find Joseph biological father's family. John Higgins b.c1846 is my GGGgrandfather and one of my brick walls.He came over to the UK at some point.I am not sure if he came as a child with his family or later. I suspect the former as the Famine may well have come into it. He was however noted as a Ships Steward on the 1871 census with my GGGgrandmother -Elizabeth (Callaghan). They lived in Conway North Wales and he died sometime before the 1891 census. They had the following known children:Barbara Ann b.1868,John Joseph b.1871,
Martha:1877-1887,Kate b.c1882 and Elizabeth b.1879(GGgrandmother)who was unmarried and in service at St.Asaph Workhouse (now known as Stanley Hospital) when my grandmother Rosanna was born in 1899. Elizabeth also had twin girls c1912 who were (according to family)taken in by the nuns of a convent and then adopted.It is thought Elizabeth died in childbirth.

Michael, I found some information that might help with my search. My father was Albert Earl Higgins born July 21,1930 died Non. 7, 1999. My mother was Evelyn Corina "Easterling" Higgins bor Nov. 15, 1934 died Sept. 9, 2002. My grandfather was Harold Scot Higgins born April3, 1903 died March 17, 1988. The furthest I can trace my Higgins descendants are to Thomas (b.@1820 - 1890) and Hannah (nee O'Keefe - b@1831) Higgins who came from County Cork to Saint John, NB , Canada @ 1876 with three children: Edward J. (b.1859), William (b. 1864) and Ellen Hannah (1871). In 1893 William was sentenced to 3 years at the Dorchester Penitentiary for assaulting his poor mother. In 1902 Edward's son Frank (b.1885) was convicted of murder and sentenced to life, however, he was believe innocent by family and local historians now as well disbelieve his guilt.

Wonderful website you have. I'm wondering if you can help me. The following is the information that I do have, however I am not sure how accurate it is. I do know this much.
My great, great grandfather John Higgins came from England where he was the oldest of 11 children. It is understood, although this could be wrong, that upon the death of the parents, the family was broken up. John Higgins came to Nfld as a "Home Child". We also think he had a sister that also came to Nfld and lived close by. John, (the 1st) was apprenticed with a family that lived around the Grand Bank, Nfld. area.
John married and had a son John, born in 1854.
John (2) married Maria Rose Hickman. They had a son & daughter. Elizabeth & then Jabez ten years later.
Jabez Higgins married Beatrice Earl & had 7 children ( 2 died young)
My father Donald Higgins is the eldest. He married Lois B. Tulloch & had 3 children.
I am the youngest & my name is Karen.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I believe there
is a website for "Home Children" brought over in the 1800's. We believe that John must have come over in the early 1800's. The date we are going by is that his son, John, was born in 1854. That could put John Sr. coming over say in the 1820's?

Great Grandpa Edward Higgins was born in 1879 and died 1974. He left the comfort and security of his home in Oregon and settled in the 100 Mile House district in B.C. He came to establish a better life, and a better way of living, and he did this by setting an example for others to follow. He was a natural leader and took on settling disputes in the community. Whenever anyone had a problem they went to Edward. There is a memorial in 100 Mile House, B.C. finished 2006. His legacy still lives on.

My great-great grandfather John Higgins settled in Pike County Illinos. We have no information on him prior to his being in Pike County. I am looking for relatives of my great grandfather, James Higgins. James from County Mayo, Ireland and married (eloped) with Margaret Walsh from Mayo. Eventually settled in Coopersville, Michigan then Grand Rapids, Michigan. They had John A.(my GF),Lavina, Margaret, Marie (Minnie) and one other daughter. John A. married Lottie A. My great grandfather was named Herman Higgins, son of Phillip Higgins, he lived in Missouri and died at a young a age ( don't have the year in front of me ). Before he died he had three children a son and two daughters, his son William Lee Higgins, his twin daughters June and Jane Higgins. My grandfather is William Lee Higgins he grew up in Center Town, MO and later moved to Tipton, MO and had six childeren with his wife Leta Mae (Maharg) Higgins. They had five boys one girl; Elaine Higgins, Jerry Higgins, William Keith Higgins, Dennis Higgins, Larry Higgins, and Phillip Higgins. In this family there are 31 grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, most of which still live in mid Missouri.
I am the son of William Keith Higgins, I have a sister, Heather Ann Higgins, and a niece Chaslyn Grace Higgins.
I have a few more details of my family history which I will post in more detail with dates and whatnot. I do enjoy the site, it is an interesting read.

The earlist Higgins family that I know of is Thomas and Margaret Agin-Higgins who lived New Jersey Monouth co. Have maps where they lived. He was a farmer. They had a John, Mary, Bridget, margaret and I belive a Rose. The next information I have on them is when their daughter Mary Higgins marries Thomas Doolin and Mary's Sister marries a Grady. Thomas Doolin and Grady were friends and Grady signed Thomas Doolin Nationalization papers. I have a map where Thomas Higgins lived at in the early 1880's near Holbrook, Iowa located in Iowa Co. Green township. Margaret is shown to have lived several place with her children and they finally died and is buried with the Thomas Doolin Family at the Holbrook Cem St. Michaels Catholic Church. John Higgins ran a tavern in Iowa City and I believe that one of the girls went to Neb. and one to Mishagan. But then I loose track of where all that family went to. They show up on records in the Iowa City Catholic Church in the early 1900's as visiting their mom at the church, I believe it was St. Patrick Church. Shari Stogdill

She married James Higgins October 25, 1894 in Yell County, Arkansas. She was 17 and James (aka J.H.) was 21. James died prior to 1900. He was reportedly a Methodist minister.
It is believed that James was the son of John and Sarah (Sahra) Higgins of Ellsworth Township, Logan County Arkansas. John and Sarah had the following children: Nathan Higgins 1867 Disy (Dicey?) Higgins 1868, George Higgins 1872, James Higgins 1874, Sallie Higgins 1875, Cassy Higgins 1877 and Kaleb Higgins 1880. All were born in Arkansas except Nathan and Disy who were born in Tennessee, according to the 1880 Logan County Arkansas census. John was from Georgia. Sarah from North Carolina.
I believe Disy married a W.L. Corley July 11, 1886 in Logan County Arkansas.
I am searching for more information about James' brothers and sisters and ancestors. I also would like to know how my greatgrandfather (James) died at a young age.

I have hit the brick wall and any help would be greatful. My ggrandfather was Peter Higgins born in Pike Co. Ill in 1856, he had an older brother named John born in La. in 1850, Mothers name was Bridget (maiden name unknown) but his father died sometime around Peters birth. Peter was married to Mary J. I am looking for information on my great grandfather, William Frederick Higgins. He was born in England in 1843. His father was the landscape architect (gardener) at Buckingham Palace. Hi- Iwanted to thank you for the census resords of Anne Helen Higgins that you sent me and posted. Do you know anyone that can do a lookup in utah for her birth record? She was born in 1906. Her father was Lawrence Higgins and her mother Margaret Helen O'Brien.
I know the VanAukens of the 1910 census was Anne's Aunt Catherine O'Brien VanAuken. Her husband died in 1919 and Anne was moved to the Farrell household in 1920 census. I thought Mary Farrell was possibly an O'Brien but I suspect she was a Higgins. Can you see if there is a MAry Higgins who married Joseph L. Farrell about 1902 or so? If she is a Higgins at least that would make more of the puzzle fit together. By the way I am very pleased to have found your website. You are providing a valuable resource for a lot of people. He married Lydia Mathis, who is buried at Keller Cemetery Elkhart (Polk County) Iowa -- I was always fascinated they were buried separately because he was Catholic and she was not. I have a lot of Mathis genealogy info and contacts but not one scrap of info on GG Grandpa Higgins. Sarah L. Higgins m. 1852, Daniel B. SHULL, his 3rd wife. Sarah, b. 1826 to O. W. Higgins and Francis Stone. She was my Paternal g. grandmother. Her sister Virginia T. Higgins married Peter Himebaugh 1872 his 2nd wife. Peter Himebaugh was my maternal g. grandfather and she a step g. grandmother. Their contribution to the Lincoln Co Higgins Family ws at least noteable though not fameous. The Shull home still stands near as does Mt. Hebron Cumberland Pres Church that D. B. Shull built. Daniel B.Shull and Sarah L. along with several children, grandchildren and her sister Virginia and other Higgins Family appear on church role Peter Himebaugh, prof of Math ans Science at Oak Hill Inst on Norris Creek. He and his 1st wife thught tyhere until she died in 1870 and he then married Virginia, a student and graduate.
