Waler James Girling born only child of Walter George Girling (born 1886) and Alice White West.Walter George Girling was only child of Ellen Girling-born 1867 (father unknown) she was child of Sarah Ann and George Girling born 1927 their sibilings were Christopher, George, Emma, Robert and of course Ellen. All are from Harleston, Starleston/Depwade - Norfolk,Suffolk, looking for relatives today that can help me get more information or relation!!

And I thought it was an unusual name!! How wrong could I be?
I have very little information: Margaret Girling born circa 1824 in either Suffolk or the East End of London. She married Joseph Brown from Ireland in 1847 and on the 1851 census there is her cousin Sarah aged 18 or 38! She died in 1871 in Holborn. I am looking for Margaret's parents.
That's it any help welcomed,
Regards

Comments Rebecca GIRLING of Stradbroke (1686-1741)
Comments:
I am descended from Rebecca GIRLING of Stradbroke in Suffolk.

According to the IGI http://tinyurl.com/33g2ph she was born in 1686. She married James ALDOUS at Stradbroke on
16th February 1707 and was buried on 15th January 1741.

I believe that her father was Robert GIRLING who was buried at Stradbroke on 23rd August 1728. According to
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~girling/oldmarriages.html there is a marriage "01 Jun 1682 Robert
Girling & Ann Chase, p. Stradbrooke Withersdale" which fits as being possibly his.

Comments GIERLING
Comments:
Dear All

I hope some one may be able to help me here.

A while ago whilst looking through some documents received from the National Children's Home, on one form the name J. GIERLING is given as the father the year 1931.
I have recently attempted to look for such a person but nothing exists, the name is German in origin, having looked at other sites.
Letters written have shown that he was well thought of by his superiors, and it appears he was in the Army during the WW1, but nothing shows up.
My suspicions are that the spelling is incorrect and it should be GIRLING, should this be the case, if anyone should have a former relative who fought in WW1 and perhaps won
the MC, may have held the rank of Captain I would be extremely grateful for there help.
I have looked on line for those officers who won the MC, but none appears to match up.
The problem is that some of this information came by word of mouth, so may not be totally accurate.

I believe that this gentleman J. GIERLING resided in London for some time after WW1, beyond that I have no idea.
Once again should anyone have any information which would help in the above, I would be very grateful indeed.
A Happy Hew Year to you all

Best Regards

Further to last message, my Girlings came from Norfolk & moved to Stratford on Avon in early 1800's. Moved to Wimbledon in mid 1860's. Only one male left to carry on the name from our line but I suspect there may be other descendants as my great grandfather married twice. This was Frederick William Girling.

I was born a Girling, live in New Plymouth, Taranaki, New Zealand. Girling is a relatively uncommon name here. Our branch of the family came out to NZ from London around 1881, the widowed Ann Girling, with grown up children and families. - connected to Burgell, Reedman, Exeter and Stewart families. Further back, with Girlings from Earl Soham, Suffolk.I see my brother Bill has also visited this site. Hi Bill!

Hi, I'm a Girling from County Durham, North East England. My dad was Edward Girling, born on November 11th 1917 and died on May 6th 1987. He was originally from Crook in County Durham. My Grandfather was also Edward, and my Grandmother was Phyllis Hardy, I don't know their dates of birth or any other information about them, Dad was from a big family, I think about ten altogether. As far as I know there were four boys, Dad (Edward), Ellis, Robert & Wilf, and six girls, Hannah, Jessie, Phyllis, Selena, Ella and Doris. If there's anyone with any information about our branch of the family I'd like to hear from them.

I'm trying to trace the origins of a Girling branch of the tree in India. My gt grandmother, Mabel Girling, was born in Bombay in 1876. Her grandfather, John Girling, was in H.M. 4th Regiment of foot and from his date of death in Mysore would have been born in 1808-1809.

So does anyone have a John Girling matching these dates who joined the army and set off for India?

Any info would be much appreciated!

George has given his father's name as George Girling on the Certificate but this was later deleted by the vicar on the instructions of George and Abigail. I have no further information on this at present however George and Abigail christened their first son John Girling Capon. So there must be some connection.

They also found evidence of a Moorish connection in our ancestry which explains why we all tan so beautifully, even with sunscreen. Fun to make a contribution.

For those interested incoat of arms & the girlings the following is from a tombstone in the Little Whelnetham churchyard.
Robert Girling who died 09 june 1790,aged 76 years
Mary wife of Robert Girling who died 21 jul 1771,aged 62 years.
It can hardly be said she died; But having ster'd through every course of life,The girl, the maid, the woman and the wife,
She softly landed on the silent shore, where billows never break or tempests roar,
Where Peaceful scepters for the patient grow,And crowns repay our long fatigues below.
On the west face of this stone is a large heraldic shield;
On a bend between two cotisses three fleur de lys (for Girling) impaling three bars brretween eight roundels, three, two, two and one.
Crest a bird with wings extended.

My mom and dad divorced when I was young. I am curious to know where the Girling geneology goes before my grandfather.
His name is Edward Girling. I know he was in the US Navy and lived in St. Paul, MN USA with his wife Pearl(nee-Smith). He died alittle over a decade ago. There is very few Girlings in Minnesota all seem to be concentrated to the St. Paul and surronding areas. I know there are a whole lot more overseas. I am wondering who is the Girling that immigrated to the US because it wasn't Edward. I know he had several siblings. But, I do not know the name of his dad. Oh, also he talked a lot. My father talks a lot. I have a tendency to babble a lot. Whether it is a Girling gene, I do not know. My father's name is Jeffrey. If anyone has any further info, please contact me.
Thank you,
Angela Darwin

I have only just found this website. I started looking into my family name some 20 years ago, but having a family has put any further investigations on hold. I have found that my family originated from both Fressingfield and Stradbroke in Suffolk. I have got to dig out all my information to give precise details. My parental line moved down from Fressingfield to the Albany Road in London, The Strand, out to East Ham, Romford, Brentwood and now Rayleigh. Once giving more informative information, I will be glad to learn of anyone who may be able to add to my search.

I was born in Bolton, Lancs, 28 January 1940. My father, William Patrick Girling, was born in July 1912 to Eileen Girling, nee Maguire. His father was also William. He came from the south and was a postman (I think) in Bolton. My father was one of eight children - the others were Jack, Harry, Denis, Jessie, Tessie, Eileen and Tommy.
As my father was killed in Italy in 1944, I lost touch with the Girlings and would like to find my connections in the south as well as those in and around Bolton.
I now write as Ruth Hamilton and live in Liverpool.

Hi, I'm researching John George and Sarah (Groves?) Girling, from West Countries of England in Devon, Dorset and Wiltshire areas. They were both born in 1840 in England and had 4 children, Katherine Elizabeth (b. 1868), Edward John (b. 1870), Maud Mary (b. 1874) and George (b. 1878). They came to America sometime around 1875-1877 and settled in Illinois. One thing I would like to know is what is the best web site to begin looking for their ship information and naturalization papers? Thank you.

I am an American with roots back to Suffolk. So far I have gotten back to my great grandfather's chrisening on 19 March 1837. He was the son of John Horn(e) and Mary Girling. All my information from that christening on is in the Alderton Suffolk area. I am trying to go further back. I am probably handicapped by not having a good knowledge of the area so I could check parish records for nearby towns, etc. I would appreciate any suggestions or information.

My father is Donald Leslie Girling and he is an only child. His father is Robert Charles Girling.
He immigrated to canada when he was only months old. His father was also named Robert Girling and died in world war II of mustard gas poisoning. he was in the machine gun corps infantry. beyond that we have little knowledge. much of my grandpa's family died off early on and no stories of ancestry beyond my great grandfather is known. i'd love to make some connections and I have more knowledge and family tree information if you'd like to here it.
